Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

Ugh, I didn't make it out for my long run this weekend and I feel really disapointed in myself. I can't go tonight as I have training so does anything think doing it Tuesday is too close to race day? I know it says a two week taper is normal so I don't want to risk anything but I want to get one more full run in with all my gear so I am confident everything works.

I think you'd be fine with that. I did my last *biggie* long run today, 11 miles, and I wouldn't have worried if I had to do it tomorrow. Some people don't taper at all for half marathons! I like a two week taper myself. I'll do a 6-8 miler next Monday as my last "long" run. (And of course shorter runs this week and next.)

There was a thread for the WISH meet. I think they are doing AS food court at 4PM on Saturday.[/QUOTE]

What does AS stand for? :confused3

Happy Valentine’s Day! Hope everyone is feeling the love!:lovestruc

Yay! Did my last LR yesterday. It was a really tough 13 miles. I am having a lot of tendonitis in my fingers and toes. The dr. says that it was caused by an auto immune reaction to an infection I had, and that it could take around 6 months to go away. I can barely bend my fingers. It felt like I was carrying weights along with me the full 13 miles. :sad2: Also, my achilles started burning and tingling around mile 5 through mile 9, so I had to slow way down. Oh well, the good news was that I finished the run and now it is taper time

Sorry so many of you are fighting the flu. My prayers are with you that you recover very quickly!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

I read that the antibiotic Levaquin can cause Tendinopathy and tendon rupture. Most frequently involves the Achilles tendon. Tendons can rupture in shoulders and hands etc. on the body. It can take many months to get it out of your system. From, Physicians Desk Reference Book 2010, page 2633.

I read Quinolone antibiotics cause this. Cipro and Levaquin. I see Avelox and Ofloxacin and drugs that end in floxin or floxacin are mentioned but I cannot confirm.

I also read, "Not to eat for one hour after a workout. You will burn more calories." Quoted from Jennifer Aniston talking about her scientist friend.

I only felt like running 4 on Sunday. My knee is healing. Good thing I am winding down the intensity.

I am glad to see men can enter the race too. :)

"My running ambition is to keep doing it until I'm way past the point where I have any business running. Just to keep doing it throughout my whole life—to stay fit and feel good." -- Leroy Chiao, astronaut and runner

Anyone have a photo of the ChEar Zone cooler? They are supposed to be sit-on.

Not sure if this is going to work but I hope this is a photo of me wearing the cooler/seat at Hubby's marathon. Came in handy. Definitely sit-upon-able.

When you get your pedicure make sure and tell them you are running a half and to leave your calluses (sp?). I forgot to tell them when I had one a month ago and I have been dealing with blisters ever since then.

I never even thought about that being a problem. Thanks for the heads up!
My mom wants to go this weekend to get pedicures, but I'm afraid the polish will come off while running, and it'll be a waste of money.

I second that!!! Thank you.:yay:

And I third that! And to everyone who has posted--it's been such a huge help.

Things here are not as good as I was hoping. I didn't do anything last week except some elliptical because I was having such shoulder discomfort. So I thought I could still go out and do my 10 mile run this weekend. And physicially I was ok --for the 3 miles I did it. I just mentally couldn't get into it, and I started out dehydrated so by the 3 mile mark I was just done. I am going to do my short runs as scheduled and instead of doing four miles this weekend, I am going to do 6 and maybe try for 8. But I feel so disappointed- between my foot and shoulder, my training has not been what I expected it to be. I just really hope I have done enough.

Saturday I ran 11 miles. Tomorrow I'm going to try out my outfit (tutu and all) on my neighbor's treadmill for 5 miles. I don't have the courage to try it at my local YMCA!:rotfl2:
Sunday I'm going for 12 miles and then tapering down.
Can't wait to be heading out to DWnext Wednesday night!
I'm staying at the CBR. Any others wishers staying there?

Yeah I was thinking 8 this weekend as well with my nromal two 6 mile maintenance runs. You've inspired me to go for it. Long run tomorrow it is! Thanks for the support!

I'll be at CBR as well. We won't be in till mid-afternoon on Friday though. I haven't stayed at CBR since I was 6 as my parents liked to try a new resort each time. I wonder if it'll be the same as I remember.

We're staying at CBR and get in Thursday evening. First time at that resort and first Princess half for us.

Not at all a problem...Hal Higdon's Intermediate Plan actually has you running over 10 the weekend before the race. You should be fine. I think I'm going to get another 9.5 in (that's how long my local trail is - out and back) one more time! Have fun, and don't worry! :wizard:

this is slightly off topic but i need to whine a little. i was really hoping that this running thing would help me lose a little weight. i know it's all my fault and i need to stop eating everything in sight. exercise alone isn't going to help if i eat more calories than i burn. still, waah! i keep cheating at my diet and then get all upset when i wake up in the morning and my weight is up! i weigh 143 now. a few WEEKS ago i was down to 137.5 and was so close to my goal of 135.

i wanted to be 140 for the race. i was there and i totally sabotaged myself. why can't i just say no to the junk???

dumbo_buddy, I could have written your post word for word. Well, add a few numbers to your pounds, but you get the picture.:lmao: I need to learn how to control myself with food.

Does anyone know if I can pay for my discounted theme park tickets with a Disney gift card? Or pay for part of it with a gift card, part with a credit card?

I am staying at POR. Does anyone know if they have coffee maker in room or do i have to try to hunt down coffee at 3 AM?

Also, as for staying warm before start, i know i will end up with just tamk top, but trying to figure out a way to wear long sleeve shirt if needed at start. I took one of my old long sleeved tech shirts and cut straight down the middle to be worn like jacket... My spibelt will keep it manageable and i can just toss when needed and don't have to pull over my head or hide bib #. HTH someone.

Ditto except with different numbers...maybe it's the winter thing and our bodies are just hanging on to those few pounds. You know, a hibernation kind of thing? Like chipmunks or something...

You should be just fine doing your long run anytime before this weekend. Some training plans have a long run the weekend before a race (but I wouldn't recommend it if this is your first 1/2). If you've already done 10-11 miles then you are good to go and will do just fine on race day.

I was wondering the same thing. Will coffee be available in the food court that early? Can't get by without my java!
