Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

I am staying at POR. Does anyone know if they have coffee maker in room or do i have to try to hunt down coffee at 3 AM?

I was wondering the same thing. Will coffee be available in the food court that early? Can't get by without my java!

They had 4-cup coffeemakers in the rooms last time we stayed there (2009). This year I'm at the French Quarter and they BETTER still have coffeemakers.
FYI: they came with the to-go cups/lids, so it's perfect to carry to the bus stop.

As far as my experience goes, all moderate resorts and above have both mini fridges and coffeemakers.

That would be all Disney resorts except Pop Century and AllStar. I believe those two have coffeemakers but no fridges, but I have never stayed at either so can't confirm.

Looking at my photos from Marathon Weekend, I cannot find a coffee pot in my room at All Star Sports.

No promises, but for Marathon Weekend, Pop opened their food court at 2am to accommodate racers.

I read that the antibiotic Levaquin can cause Tendinopathy and tendon rupture. Most frequently involves the Achilles tendon. Tendons can rupture in shoulders and hands etc. on the body. It can take many months to get it out of your system. From, Physicians Desk Reference Book 2010, page 2633.

I read Quinolone antibiotics cause this. Cipro and Levaquin. I see Avelox and Ofloxacin and drugs that end in floxin or floxacin are mentioned but I cannot confirm.

Thank you so much for mentioning this! I had done some research last month, and I can track every symptom start date back to the date I took 2 doses of Avelox for a sinus infection in November. I only took 2 pills and broke out in a red rash on my abdomen, so I stopped taking it immediately. Then I noticed pain in my feet within 12 days. I thought perhaps it was just my training for the Princess, and maybe I was getting stress fractures in my feet. But then it moved to my hands, my shoulders and my wrists. I was diagnosed by an orthopedic surgeon with tendonitis in my shoulder. I have been to a new family doctor (different from the one who prescribed me the Avelox) and had tons of blood work done. All of my blood work came back great. So they sent me to a rheumatologist. I told him about the Avelox, and he still thinks it is just an auto immune reaction to the infection. I am not convinced. There was absolutely nothing wrong with me before I started taking the Avelox (other than a normal sinus infection), and my system obviously reacted badly to it. Why does everyone treat me like I’m crazy for thinking it was the medication????? It is so frustrating. I had x-rays done on my feet, and there are no stress fractures. This is not a joint thing… it is definitely tendonitis. The FDA back in 2003 had a black box warning put on the drugs due to tendonitis and tendon rupture. Obviously this is an issue. I am hopeful that the Physician’s Reference says that it goes away after a few months. I was so scared this would last forever. Unfortunately, I highly doubt this is going to be gone in less than 2 weeks. I’m only 3 months into my symptoms. I’m so upset because I have trained hard for this race, and I want it to be a fun experience… no pain other than the normal pain of running 13.1 miles.:rotfl:

Sorry for the long rant. It just feels really good that someone in the world may not think I’m crazy for feeling the Avelox was the problem.

Does anyone know if I can pay for my discounted theme park tickets with a Disney gift card? Or pay for part of it with a gift card, part with a credit card?

Yep. You can- I did it through the website anyway. I bought with a gift card I had, and then paid the rest on my credit card. But it was kind of a pain- you had to do the math yourself (put in how much on each card) instead of it just filling in the blanks for you. Not really hard- lol- just annoying. ;)

Belle - Glad I was able to help someone. It bothered me to see some people on here having problems. I knew about these drugs doing harm and just couldn't keep it to myself.

Everyone is different, drugs affect some people and not others. I don't like taking ANYTHING unless it is absolutely necessary.

I research every drug or vitamin thoroughly, before I swallow one pill. I decide, if the benefit is worth the risk.

My son hurt his knee during basketball. He went to the E.R. and they xrayed the bones and sent him home saying he was okay. I said, "Are you insane?" I took over and took him to see his doctor, get a reference for a sports medicine doc before I could get an MRI!

Anyhoo, he had completely torn his ACL and damaged the meniscus in his knee. (Soft tissue damage that a regular xray doesn't pick up)
He had to have big time surgery with metal screws and ligament replacement and everything, by the sports medicine surgeon. He's okay now and back to playing all sports.
I feel quite a few doctors suck and it takes time to find a good knowledgeable one. Even then, I am cautious.

this is slightly off topic but i need to whine a little. i was really hoping that this running thing would help me lose a little weight. i know it's all my fault and i need to stop eating everything in sight. exercise alone isn't going to help if i eat more calories than i burn. still, waah! i keep cheating at my diet and then get all upset when i wake up in the morning and my weight is up! i weigh 143 now. a few WEEKS ago i was down to 137.5 and was so close to my goal of 135.

i wanted to be 140 for the race. i was there and i totally sabotaged myself. why can't i just say no to the junk???

I totally understand but I hope you'll forget about your weight til after the race. You're training hard and building up an appetite in the process. Everything I've read about training for a half or full marathon says that this is not the time to expect to lose weight and that in fact you may even gain.:scared1:
I haven't weighed myself in weeks. I'm just focused on finishing the Princess uninjured and in a decent time.
Good luck

well, that explains a lot! ack!!!:scared1: Same thing. I thought that I'd lose all this weight before my husband got back from deployment and in order to boost myself, I signed up for 2 half marathons (the princess and another), only to have lost only 10 lbs! :sad1: Oh well. I only have 10 more to go...maybe after the marathons I can focus on just working out to lose weight not to get in the miles. After running 5 mi as a short run, anything less will be hard to not do, lol.

Hey fellow Princess runners....

Just found out the color for this years official race tech shirt. It is WHITE this year (last year it was Cinderella Blue). The race shirts for the Donald are always white and are nice looking. :thumbsup2

That is too funny. My mom and I will be arriving around 1 pm Fri as well, taking ME, and checking in to POR too. Where are you flying from? Staying at Riverside or French Quarter?

I'm coming from Houston. We are staying at Riverside.

I would love to chat with people around me, but I'm so not out going...

This is me also. I am more concrened about passing the time before the race then I am running the race. LoL

Were the mesh bags the bags you checked during the race last year? I'm bummed because I noticed on the final race instructions they said that we had to check our clear plastic bag provided at the expo. I wonder if that means we won't get the mesh bags. At wine and dine, we just got the clear bags, and no mesh bags.

I saw that too and was pretty bummed. The better have something better IN the bag this year ;)

Unfortunately, by 2 miles in, I just wasn't mentally in the game. I made a few stops home for water and whining breaks. I almost didn't go back out after 10.7 miles, but I forced it. My knees, feet and back were sore. I made it to 13.1, walking most of the last half. This is the 3rd time I went to 13.1, but the others were much easier than this one. The wind picked up, and I think that may be part of the problem. I finished right around 3:30....about 30 minutes longer than my last 13.1. I'm just trying to tell myself that it's just 1 bad run.:sad2:

I had a similar situation with my last long run too. It was suppose to be 14 but I forgot to charge my Garmin and it died half a mile in. I had my Nike+ on too but I used the Garmin for the intervals so I ended up thrown off and after 2 miles I pretty much walked the rest for a total of 10 miles. Not the last long run I wanted, but I know I have and can do better so I am moving on. :thumbsup2

Like a couple of you, I will be traveling solo. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. This will be my first time EVER traveling by myself. I'm getting in Saturday around noon and staying through Tues. and staying at pop music. I'd love to meet some wISHers while there and maybe even run with some of you. My bib nmber is 2569...any of you possibly in the same corale as me?

I'm in your corral! Hi! My bib # is 2500something and we will be in Corral A! Yippee! Our corral start is at 5:45am, so definitely make sure you are there on time. :thumbsup2 I'm running with Team Goddess (an group of WISHers here on the boards) and we'll be in bright royal blue shirts that say Team Goddess. If you are really stressing and want someone to hang with in the corral, you are welcome to hang out with me. Just PM and I will give you my cell number so you can text me at the start and we find a place to meet up. You are going to LOVE this race! :cool1:

I am not certain, but if I remember correctly, jeanigor is a "him" not a "her". I think I met him at the Wine and Dine....but maybe I have people mixed up? Todd?

Yes, Todd is definitely male! And he is a riot! We have cruised together on the podcast cruise and did the Castaway Cay 5k.

During the half in Jan, I saw people going to their corrals at 5:30 and even later trying to get up to them, they don't seem too strict, but I would suggest getting there on time as you can get a decent spot in the corral and not have to worry about it. I'm sure they knew that it was backed up onto World Drive getting into EPCOT and not to be rude, and let them join their proper corral as long as it was before they left, then I assume they just joined the next starting corral. And I'm a male, dressing as a princess though, but no, not all women here.;)

The men who run this race are AWESOME! Most dress up in some way or other...because let's face it, you have to have a great sense of humor to be a guy and run in a PRINCESS race. There were several tu-tus out there, several frogs (get it? Kiss him and he'll turn into a prince!) ans several men running for breast cancer. It was great to see. :thumbsup2

Does this usually correspond with the medal strap color too or is that the same each year? I thought I remember the strap for 2010 being blue...I saw it at an Expo last month, but now I'm not 100% sure.

No, there doesn't seem to be a connection. Last year's medal strap was royal blue. And the strap for the Donald is usually a bright color when the tech t is white.

The white Donald shirts are nice, I'm happy to hear these will be white.

My bib # is 2500something and we will be in Corral A!

Sounds like there are ~2600 runners in each of corrals A, B and C. I am bib #52xx and I'm in corral C. I put my est. finish time as 2:30 (used my W&D 2:33 time as proof.)

During the first Princess the medal ribbon was burgandy-ish and the jewels were purple. The shirt was pink. Last year the shirt was Cinderella blue and the ribbon was deep blue and the jewels were Cinderella blue. I wonder if this year will be white or silver with white(crystal) jewels.

My jewel was clear or white I guess you could say - like a diamond not Cinderella Blue. :confused3

They all still look clear to me in this picture:

I think this year will be an Emerald. But that is just my guess.
