Thank you so much for mentioning this! I had done some research last month, and I can track every symptom start date back to the date I took 2 doses of Avelox for a sinus infection in November. I only took 2 pills and broke out in a red rash on my abdomen, so I stopped taking it immediately. Then I noticed pain in my feet within 12 days. I thought perhaps it was just my training for the Princess, and maybe I was getting stress fractures in my feet. But then it moved to my hands, my shoulders and my wrists. I was diagnosed by an orthopedic surgeon with tendonitis in my shoulder. I have been to a new family doctor (different from the one who prescribed me the Avelox) and had tons of blood work done. All of my blood work came back great. So they sent me to a rheumatologist. I told him about the Avelox, and he still thinks it is just an auto immune reaction to the infection. I am not convinced. There was absolutely nothing wrong with me before I started taking the Avelox (other than a normal sinus infection), and my system obviously reacted badly to it. Why does everyone treat me like I’m crazy for thinking it was the medication????? It is so frustrating. I had x-rays done on my feet, and there are no stress fractures. This is not a joint thing… it is definitely tendonitis. The FDA back in 2003 had a black box warning put on the drugs due to tendonitis and tendon rupture. Obviously this is an issue. I am hopeful that the Physician’s Reference says that it goes away after a few months. I was so scared this would last forever. Unfortunately, I highly doubt this is going to be gone in less than 2 weeks. I’m only 3 months into my symptoms. I’m so upset because I have trained hard for this race, and I want it to be a fun experience… no pain other than the normal pain of running 13.1 miles.
Sorry for the long rant. It just feels really good that someone in the world may not think I’m crazy for feeling the Avelox was the problem.
