Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

@JDruns - Okay I know that this is going to sound funny but everytime I need a boast I hear Dori from Finding Nemo in my head singing..."Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming." I guess that means I'm a true Disney geek, but it makes me smile. :happytv: Thank you Ellen Degeneres.

I think that's a great one!!

Anyone else run on a bike trail? I do on weekends and the bikes always scare me half to death when they pass. They don't give warning, just zoom on by. And for some reason when I get scared I vear left, so I almost hit them..Luckly the trail isn't too crowed right now, so it isn't a big deal, but what happens this spring?

Both of the trails I run are bike-and-run trails. And, yes, bicyclists are SCARY! They're supposed to say, "passing on the left," but many don't! Grrrr.

We actually had a runner die after a collision with a bike here in Dallas. The runner turned into the bicyclist in the case, but.... Very sad. Very scary. I am extra-vigilant now. And don't run with music any more, either.

On Mantras: when I race I remember something DH told me before my first half: "remember that this is YOUR race, don't worry about what other people are doing...they're all running THEIR own race too"

I say something like this to myself, too. I have a bad habit of pushing my pace -- and ending up sucking wind. Especially when someone is passing me, I tend to uncosciously match their pace. Or I sometimes get self-conscious. So I tell myself, "This is your run. Not his/her run. Run your run."

I don't have a mantra but when I get tired I do something I read in a Jeff Galloway book. I wrap an imaginary rope around someone in front of me and let them 'pull' me for a while. I actually does help. Sometimes I also try and match steps with someone in front of me; this doesn't always work...some people are quick!

This is a great idea. I'm a big fan of visualization and other "mind games."

I do something a bit similar when I have a side stitch or tightness in a foot. I imagine directing more blood, more fuel, to that spot. (Hubby suggested after yesterday's run I try extra-deep breaths for side sititches, so I'll try that next time too.)

My mom had some PT after knee replacement surgery and was having trouble picking one of her feet up and so stumbling a bit. Her therpaist told her instead of getting frustrated with whatever part of your body is "failing" you, tell it you love it. So Mom's was: "I love you, foot." Mom said it worked. Makes sense to me. Saving it for upcoming long runs!

I love you foot! That is AWESOME! Well I got an appt with my primary care doc to get the authorization I need from my insurance to go see a sports med doc. Happy thoughts, love you calves! love you heels, love you feet.

That is great news! :yay: Sorry you had to go through such a process to get an appointment with a Sports Med. Doctor but hopefully all goes well! I definitely wouldn't have had the patience that you have. I forget about how great it is to be in a PPO sometimes.

Also for side stitiches put both arms up in the air and breath deep and slow your pace down. I find that helps

I know this may sound silly, but I had a bout with side stitches back during one of my first attempts at running. Shortly after, I read an article that said you should breathe almost like you are breathing for child birth. Sure enough, I tried it and it worked! I tried taking deeper breaths, like your husband suggested, but most of the time when I have side stiches, I'm usually pretty winded, so it's hard for me to breathe deep. I've also found that when it gets hard for me to take a deep breath, that I can make myself do it by yawning!

Wow, we have been trying to get hotel nights for Thurs/Fri and there sure are no deals to be found!

I even tried to use DVC points and not one studio available for either night, at any property.

I was going to drive down but RDU-MCO on SW dropped to $209 round trip, and I had an unused flight credit, so my total for airfare was $96. :)

I spent time last night looking at the guide and the Expo vendors. Most of the ones I was interested in I have already spent my self imposed allowance. So my question is, in the past have there been other vendors not on the list? We aren't coming in until Saturday around noonish and at this point I am thinking there won't be much for me at the expo except for the packet pick up.

Second, I know I saw some discussion earlier about breakfast after the race. I'd love to hear more about what you are thinking. I don't think I can do a character breakfast without my children, it won't feel right.

Finally, there was an article in our paper about the 10K I want to run next week and it mentioned the different level of runners they hope to attract. :woohoo: I was feeling a little intimidated thinking it would only be serious runners and I won't let anyone call what I do running... its jogging.

Kat My girls are on a RDU-MCO roundtrip...prices dropped, but I don't know how to rebook and get credit as I don't use Southwest. Any help?

My team sparkle skirt got here today! Its so cute! Never thought I would be willingly putting yellow sparkly fabric on the widest area on my body and a the "problem zone", but I am gonna shine during the race! I honestly could have made it...but who has the time you know? :cool1:

ITS SO CUTE! And yes, the TEAM SPARKLE skirts are sheer, and VERY light!

They can do that online, clicking on "change flight", entering their confirmation number, and then choosing to change their flights. hey will be changing to the same flight but a different fare, if that makes sense? The credit is then stored under their confirmation number if it was a nonrefundable fare.

You can also call.

Question about the discounted tickets -

How many days are they valid for?

We are staying only for 2 days during the Princess Weekend and then travelling down to KeyWest. DH and the kids return to Disney March 12-18. Can I get the discounted tickets for them to use?
Will they be valid for the 2nd part of their stay?
Will they be able to use it without me?

Well I did it! Got my plane ticket, getting in a little later than I wanted Friday at 2:40, but what do you do? Hopefully the Mears Shuttle won't be a nightmare I was really hoping to do the expo on Friday, but whatever. This is the first time I have traveled alone in almost 8 years! What am I going to do with myself on that flight.....:cool1:

I know what you mean, I'm excited to be going on my own too! This is the first thing I've ever done on my own. Dh and I have lived together since we were 18, I always have kids with me, etc. I'm sooooo excited to be going by myself. Of course I'll be taking homework with me, but I'll get to pee without an audience, eat something besides leftover chicken nuggets, and stand in line without having to answer a million "why" questions. Oh yeah, and at some point in my trip I'll run 13.1 miles.:rotfl:

i can't WAIT to sit on the plane down to orlando! lol! i'm going to READ! i'm going to RELAX! i may even have a little bloody mary! it'll be so great to not have to worry about keeping my little guy entertained and pray that he doesn't have a screaming fit like he did the last time on the flight. we are leaving this sunday for a week in disney and i know dh and i will be a little stressed on the flight with the little guy.

but princess weekend? it's alllll me. and you know what? if every kid on that plane decides to cry? i will SO be ok with it! in fact, i promise to do my best to help out any family that has a screaming kid. it's so much easier to deal with a screaming kid when it's not your own!

and how fun will it be to go on rides that I want to go on? it will be hard to stay away from the alcohol when i'm walking around the world showcase but i'll be sure to head back after the run to get my fiesta margarita with medal proudly displayed.

ok, yeah, i will miss hubs and baby but i'm going to make sure to make the best out of the weekend :)

Wow quite a few solo mom's. I wasn't suppose to be solo but the people I planned to meet up with are dropping like flies :(. I don't mind going alone - I'm actually kinda excited about it although I'm sad my friends aren't making the trip. I'm staying at BWV and flying in on thursday. I think I'm going to rent a car because I hate not having my own transportation (we usually drive down.) I was finally able to snag a good rate on a rental car.

I booked a "just in case" room at AS for thurs. night and I'm so glad I did. I tried to add on one night in a studio as well and couldn't get availability.

Great deal on the flight.

Thanks Kat
Just checked...rates are back up :sad1:

Actually, the rates are still there, but I had to fly in Thurs afternoon and back Tues afternoon to get that rate. I have a lot of PTO, an AP, and a wonderful friend providing lodging for Sat/Sun/Mon nights, so it was a no brainer for me... extra days in Disney! :)
