Sounds like so many are doing an awesome job with their training, dispite a few bumps here and there. Great job!

I really want to try the Galloway method and decided I need some sort of timer to help with the intervals. (Doesn't work well when you keep forgetting to check your watch and forget to walk or run at the appropriate intervals.) I bought the Gymboss I heard recommended somewhere in these threads. So, now it is just trying to decide how long to time my intervals. This weekend I might try a 5/1 like Coach recommended, or a 4/1 that my training plan recommends for a first marathon run/walk interval and see how that works out. I'm going for 10 (maybe 11) this weekend.

Now, if I could only find my runners watch! It's been missing for a week!

Regarding fundraising for the Princess 1/2 - I was recently involved with American Cancer Society Relay for Life. I believe there are ways that you can set up a fundraising page for any race that you do. You may want to check into your local American Cancer Soc and they could probably help you with that. I was considering this myself, but haven't had a chance to do this yet. Likely something similar is available for other charities as well. It is a chance to do some fundraising, especially if you are not able to make the commitment to a large fundraising program such as Team in Training.

Jeff Galloway just posted a video on Disneyrunning.com explaining what intervals you should use based on your time goal or exact time for now. The funny thing about this is that my time went significantly higher than some of the intervals he listed doing the 30 second intervals. He has his own timer, but I must admit that hearing beeping all the time really got annoying at the DL half. I wish people would set theirs to vibrate. It was okay with a few people, but when I decided not to listen to my headphones it was my motivation to pass those people. I just use my Nike+ Sportband and keep track of the 30 seconds. Once I got to an hour, I reset that run and started a new one so that I would continue seeing the time in seconds. It actually worked well when Runkeeper didn't live up to my expectations of it.

I honestly don't train using intervals but focus on distance (so Hal Higdon), and then tried the intervals for the first time at the DL half. A 25 min. improvement was enough evidence to show me that race day needs to always contain intervals. I never was exhausted which I can tell you is a nice change! :)

Congrats to everyone on your great runs and walks. I am almost done with Week 9 of c25k and very excited about doing Bridge to 10k and then 1/2 marathon training with M4M plan.
I know I'm already addicted to running as I was a little sick with itchy, watery eyes and sneezing yesterday but couldn't give up my run (on the treadmill).
:yay:

Speaking of using intervals, I too am trying to integrate them into my training. Especially since Coach Charles thinks they're a good idea!! Once I'm done with my 5k on Oct 2, I'll be starting the Galloway 1/2 training plan.

It's interesting though, before I read what Galloway recommended for my interval times, I did one workout with Run 5 min / Walk 2.5 minutes. That worked well for me and definitely increased my time and my enjoyment of the run. But then I read Galloway's recommendation of Run 2 / Walk for my level, 1 so I tried it. It was horrible. Maybe I was just having an off day (entirely possible), but I couldn't make it past 15 minutes of this. I'm going to try it again to see if it was just the day.

ok, so all i did was run a measly 5k yesterday and i'm all like, "yeah, i can totally do the full marathon in disney in 2010." what is WRONG with me???

i ran 5 miles this morning. 5 is a completely different animal than 13 let alone 26!

maybe i should look at the reeces pieces i'm eating and realize that i better stop these eating habits if i'm going to make it very far!

For me, the biggest hurdle is between 6 and 7.

"The Time Of My Life"

I’ve been waiting for my dreams
To turn into something
I could believe in
And looking for that
Magic rainbow
On the horizon
I couldn’t see it
Until I let go
Gave into love and watched all the bitterness burn
Now I’m coming alive
Body and soul
And feelin’ my world start to turn

And I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time
To be more than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life

Holding onto things that vanished
Into the air
Left me in pieces
But now I’m rising from the ashes
Finding my wings
And all that I needed
Was there all along
Within my reach
As close as the beat of my heart

So I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time to be
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life

And I’m out on the edge of forever
Ready to run
I’m keeping my feet on the ground
My arms open wide
My face to the sun

I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time to be
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
This is the time
This is the time of my life.
This is the time of my life.

After you have trained so hard and for so long and you are just a week or so out from your race and this song comes on...I dare you NOT to get choked up.

I totally get why this song would make you emotional! I remember when I was training last year, and after finishing my last long run, I totally broke down, so hearing a song like this would only add to it.:sad1:

well I am proud of myself - I did not get a chance to walk too much this week but today we did a 5k in town & I came in 48:22. Not really fast but this is the 1st race I ever did & I walked the entire race. It was exhilarating to say the least! My girls did the FunRun that came afterwards. This was a race called the Iron Matt, a race to benefit reasearch for pediatric brain tumors named in memory of a little boy in the town who died of this. Since we lost 2 other children this year to pediatric brain cancer, this was a reather fitting way to honor those children. Now I am looking forward to speeding up!

You should be proud; you just FINISHED a 5k! :thumbsup2

the princess half is for the lukemia and lymphoma society - has anyone seen any links to fundraising? or do you have to do team in training to do the fundraising? i know they asked for a donation upon signing up but i'd like to see if friends and family will give some $$ towards the cause. my dear friend had hodgkins and i want to see if i can raise some money in honor of him.

Nancy if you go to Team in Trainning's website, I am sure you can start your own team/fundraising page, a friend of mine is the WDW marathon in January and has started her own page.

I am actually raising money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation through the website firstgiving.com, and all proceeds go straight to them. This is in loving memory of my mom who fought for 4 1/2 of breast cancer and just passed away this past June.

This was my whole reasoning for running the princess, so I can raise money and awarness about breast cancer.

P.S. on firstgiving 's webpage ypou setup a page for free and choose the organization you want to raise money for, its a pretty awesome website :)

Garmin users~A couple questions....
1) Do you plan to wear your Garmin at the race?
2) 305 owners, do you use the original band? I think I read there is a velcro
band available for this. My wrists are small and I am looking for a better fit.

I am not coming to Princess but in general, yes race with your Garmie. It has become tool that you have learned to depend on. For the 305 threre are two velcro options that I am aware of. One is a straight velcro band http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-fastener-expander-replacement-springs/dp/B0001RM74O while the other comes in a bike kit. I have the bike version but would go with the link if I did not need it on the bike.

Laurie~I was curious what the song was too. I had to go listen to it. Love it! It's really something how emotional running can be. Only runners really get it.

Running is something I never thought I could do, and I can't believe the sense of accomplishment it brings. I still remember my first 5K race. You'd think I had run a marathon. Seeing that clock and running across the finish line was amazing. And now, I have an 11 mile run under my belt, I can't believe it.

Thanks Coach, I put one in my Amazon cart. My Garmin is my running partner, and it's been a great tool. I LOVE that thing.

I hope the velcro strap gives me a better fit. The Garmin is big and it tends to hit my hand when I run. I frequently strap it to my handheld about half way through my long runs if it starts to annoy me.

OK another stupid question here ...about lodging....

I have the opp for a great rate at the Swan, cheaper than Value Resort. Is it going to be a total PITA to get to the expo if I don't have a car. I should just make my res and worry about that later, but trying to decide staying at PO or Swan. I would also have to take a cab to the start, which I assume is completely doable.... Thanks for any input or insight.

Why can't I just make a decision?

.....on to week 8 tomorrow of C25k on my running front. :goodvibes

I am so sorry about your mom. What you are doing is pretty awesome! My aunt is a Breast Cancer survivor and my mom is a cancer survivor (Uterine). Would you send me the link to make a donation? It won't be anything big but every little penny counts. I have friends in 2 states who are doing the Race for the Cure next month and both have set up a page to raise money as well. Do you have a Facebook page? Have you posted the link there? Just a thought since there are a billion people on Facebook!!

Have a great day!! :teacher:

Why not lock in the great rate and just wait to see if one of the Epcot resorts get added to the official list. If not, then you have a few options. One is to rent a car.... very reasonable in the MCO area ... even if you just rent for the two days around the expo and race. The other option is a cab to both events. Or take a Disney bus to a park and then back to a host resort for the bus ride to the expo.

Once you lock in the rate, assuming it is not a pre-pay, keep shoping Disney for better discounted rates.

Speaking of rates....I made my room res at the I run phone number. doing that u can't add dinning.
If I were to book without the I run discount it would be $300 more. That's crazy
How have u booked?

I'm hopefully booking as a bounceback, but almost ANY discount is better than the IRUN one.

ok someone explain this one to me - sunday i ran the 5k which was awesome, yesterday i ran 5 miles (hal higdon's plan said 4 but i kept going) and felt pretty darn good.

today? the plan called for 2 miles or cross train. i chose to do 2 miles. i wound up doing 2.37 (just cuz i wanted to finish the loop) and i felt HORRIBLE. like, i wanted to puke the whole time, felt like my legs weighed 100 pounds each, just horrible.

i'm sitting down now watching my toddler walk around and i'm trying not to barf. what is UP with that? i thought i was supposed to feel better and better with each run???

Not necessarily. If you're not taking rest days, your body is going to tell you it wants to rest. Even if the plan says to do something, it doesn't necessarily mean you're ready for it, especially if you've been doing work beyond what the plan says to do.
