I am hoping he says you have time. Mainly because you and I are at the same mileage :) . I did 4 miles yesterday and am planning for 5 this weekend. I printed out a calendar and, working my way backwards from the princess half, wrote down my long miles per week. The way I have it ( I found a 19 week Galloway program), I am supposed to 'start' the first of November. So I am using this time to get to 6 miles and feel relatively comfortable with the distance, and hope speed will come as I continue to train and will add hill and speed workouts.

Planning out the miles helped me to see concretely what I needed to do to prepare.

How did you find that plan?
I was to do 5 miles on Saturday but I did NOTHING :rolleyes1
So today I just did 2 miles on the treadmill and my feet still hurt. Can you get inserts for your running shoes?

I found it on the Jeff Galloway website under his half-marathon plan. I liked it because, while it's a bit longer than other schedules, the weeks themselves aren't as intense. I can swing three days/week to run but not really more than that. So it works perfectly.

I am sorry your feet hurt. I think you can get inserts at any running/sports store. One of my friends told me that even the most expensive shoes will have cheap inserts. I am going to have to look into some myself because with the increase in mileage, my plantar fascitis is acting up.

Looking into getting a road id. For all current road id owners, who as the orginal? and who has the interactive. Deciding whioch one to get. I do know with the interactive after the first year there is a yearly fee.

Original.

Cell and land lines to DW and DD
NKA, Lo Pulse, A+

I also included the Tx DL # on the second line. It is not suggested but frankly if something bad happens (thinking bike) I would rather DW get a visit and not a phone call. All SD have access to DL info.

I did it! I finished my 10k race this morning and I RAN THE WHOLE THING! When I did my 6 mile training run 2 weeks ago, I used a run/walk ratio of 3/2 and I finished in 1h45min. Today, I ran a 10k in 1h12min!!:banana:
That's crazy!! Now I have a qualifying race for the princess that I can be proud of. I'm hoping to finish the princess in under 3h, but if I keep up the good work, it looks like I can finish in 2:30 :scared1:

I took a GU chocolate outrage at mile 3 and I was feeling really good at mile 4, so I thought, "Last 2 miles, I'm going to start pushing it a little." Well, 4 to 5 was probably my fastest mile (I didn't time my splits so I don't know that officially) but by mile 5 I was thinking, "Okay, that was stupid, now I'm spent." But I managed to make it from mile 5 to the finish in about 10 minutes. I will say my knees are pretty sore, but they feel like they used to when I first started running 4 months ago and not like an injury (I hope).

To everyone doing double digit mile runs this weekend, Way to Go!!!

Great job on the race. :) I love Chocolate Outrage. So yummy.

And yes, I think you're headed for a fast Princess. My first 10k was similar to yours (1:07 something), and I'm looking at hopefully running a 2:20 half in Philly.

the rundisney.com site is really not working well. i just clicked the link for the pdf of the marathon training that jeff has and half of the pages don't work! ***?? they promote this great site and it doesn't work! boo!

whoops! i got censored!

anywho, looks like the site is working again. it only has a training schedule for a full marathon and i'm not sure i'll ever get there!

ran 3.5 in 40 minutes today. i was running against the wind (queue bob seger) and the jogger was really slowing me down. the speed wasn't all that bad it's just that it felt SO tough. running without a jogger is so much better! :)

Just think how fast you'll be in the races though, thanks to that jogger! Way to go!

question for those who have stayed at Swan or will be.....I can get a great rate from my sis in law who works for Westin. Just wondeirng how I would get to the race with no car. Is it really walkable...or do I want to do this before the race though sounds like will be alot of standing around regardless. If I take a cab any idea the cost or if that is a viable option?

Thanks.......

FYI, GREAT 25 min run this morning. 12.30 pace, fasted yet. I am in week 7 of C25k, so doing a 25min run with 5 min warmup and cooldown. Hoorah!

I finished my first half marathon this weekend! Disneyland Half was so fun, though I found myself super jealous of all the Coast to Coast medals. (I was supposed to run Princess last year, got a stomach bug the day before, didn't run.) I am already signed up for Wine & Dine, but told myself that I would wait til I ran a half before signing up for another one. Now I have the Princess webpage open. Haven't clicked yet though! Eeek!

Congrats!

I have family in Cali and now want to go for coast to coast next year..... we will see.....

Hi all, So I could really use some advice from you all that have run 1/2 marathons before..

I am new to running, I started mid June and slowly increased my distance I am now comfortably doing a 10mile long run, but that is my longest so far. I have a 5k planned for this weekend but after my 10miles on Sunday and another 6 today, i know i can do the 13 on Sunday, so should I go for it?? I was planning on saving my first 1/2 for the Princess but got to thinking maybe if I do one now, in Disney I will be more abt to slow down and really enjoy the surroundings..

Just not sure..

Today was another great run day, although I only planned on a 5miler so I had 1/2 my Accelerade before i ran and i didn't take it with me, and while it wasn't super hot, it was still a day I should have had it with me.. But all in all things were good, I ran 6.12miles in almost exactly 1 hr.. wooohoo! I am finally getting a handle on recovery now too, so I don't feel like i got ran over after a run..lol!

At this time it requires a car or taxi from the Swan. Thre are no Epcot resorts on the official resort list. Obviously, as the race fills Disney may look to include an Epcot resort in the mix. If that occurs you can simply walk to that resort and take the bus from there.

NOTE - you CANNOT walk to the start from the Epcot Resorts. The International Gate will be closed and will no open until park opening time.

If you are ready to run a half then go for it. (Or I may be confused here and are you asking is it ok to run 13 in training.... and yes it is ok... take it easier since you ran the 5k on the day before but I would not be afraid of running 15 mile runs before a half - as long as you are not working into an injury.) Otherwise keep you training base up so peaking for the Princess will be easier.

Disney is always a great first event.

I need planning help. It is time that we should be making dining ressies, but I just don't know where I should eat Saturday night. Everything I read says don't do anything new the day/week before a race, but I'm sorry to say, I don't live at Disney during training, so of course I will be eating something different the night before. Where would you suggest for a nice meal? I would prefer both in park and out of park suggestions. Should I look at menus and try to duplicate a meal the night before a LR? Same goes for breakfast before the run. Obviously I won't be eating out, but if my normal breakfast before a LR is something like waffles, how in the world will I get it at the hotel?

I was wondering the exact same thing!! Tony's for pasta maybe???

I am no expert on running...as I am getting back into it myself after a 10 year hiatus :rolleyes1

I did 2 half marathons 10 years ago under the galloway program. His program suggests running 14 miles 2 weeks before your race from what I recall to get over any mental block of "can I do that far". If you exceed the mileage before the race you will know, yeah I can finish. I think he said some people who only go up to 11 or so miles as the farthest in their training seem to have a mental block or breakdown when its race day since they haven't run that far.

Now, I would listen to Coach as he is the health expert on here...but no reason why you can't do it before the race, though it will be fun to have the Princess as your first 1/2.

Happy Running.

OH COACH,
thanks for the advice on the Swan. Its less than the moderate resorts so I think I will go for the heavenly bed and work our race transport when closer to the race.

I'm planning to do counter service for my night-before dinner. Rotisserie chicken at Cosmic Ray's or fried fish at Columbia Harbour House is closer in size and type to normal eating than dinner in a table service place would be. Plus, I can eat according to my own schedule. The morning of, I'm planning on a waffle PB&J sandwich or oatmeal, either one accompanied by a banana. It really depends on my room's amenities. I suspect that outside of DVC rooms, there aren't too many places with toasters! It might even be some kind of bagel and cream cheese (or peanut butter- I love pb) deal.

I ran five miles on Saturday. I was up in Northern MI at my parents' house for the weekend and ran down their very winding and fairly hilly country road. No sidewalks, only about six or seven houses, and I considered the 10-15 cars that passed me to be surprisingly high-traffic. It rained the whole time and the high on Saturday was 60F, so it was like running through a cold shower for an hour! But honestly, it was my best run yet! I was tired when I finished, but not exhausted, and it was just bliss to be in those northern woods for an hour. I ran part of the same route for my weekday half hour run yesterday. When I uploaded my Nike+ info to the Nike Running website last night, I discovered that at some point during one of those two runs, I had my fastest mile to date, but I honestly have no idea when. I would guess it was on my shorter run, because it had the lower overall pace. The longer run was 13:12mi and the shorter was 13:00mi. Considering this was the most hilly terrain I've had to deal with, I'm very happy with that time. Neither run included the huge hill (and nearly as steep driveway) up to my parents' house. I don't even want to think of what that beast would have done to my pace!

I also had my second experiment with energy supplements. I tried out half a package of orange blossom Honey Stinger chews last weekend during my super-hot 4.5 mile run and ate the other half on this run. I know that I probably don't *need* a supplement for run that barely exceeds an hour, but I appreciated the lift mid-run. (It also fits well within my calorie guidelines.) I really like the Honey Stinger chews. They're a lot like really soft gumdrops. They didn't need a lot of chewing and the orange blossom flavor is really tasty. When I bought them, I also bought a couple of backs of Sport Beans and a couple of packets of Gu. I'm going to try them out as I go forward. I'm planning to save the Gu for much longer runs because I don't like the idea of having a half a packet in my bag (I can put chews or beans in a snack size Ziploc). However, I suspect I will keep returning to the Honey Stingers. REI has a great selection of energy supplements and offers a kind of "cheaper by the dozen" discount. They also have the chocolate mint Gu someone was talking about a while back.

So if I read correctly, you should run 11 coming up and you left off missing an 8 and 10….
You have left , 11-12-9-8. Try this, 6-8-10-8-half. While you do not lose a lot of fitness over a two week period you will be a bundle of nerves wondering. So pick up you runs a little regressed from your previous point. You have run one half so you understand how it feels. Running a half from a long run of 10 is very manageable. If you have any concerns then plan these runs in ranges, rather than specific distance and try to push up to 12 miles. The pattern would follow: 6-8, 8-10, 10-12 and 6-8. I would stick with the shorter side of the plan to minimize injury potential and make the best of what you have on race day.

Hi Coach -

Thanks for the info, I ran 6 last night in 1:10 so I was pleased......it was 10:30 when I ran so my body kind of was exhusted but that was the only time I could squeeze in to run it.

I am going to take your advise as you helped me with my training for the princess last year when I was only 7 months post op from cervical spine surgery :hug:

My LR on Sunday is going to be the 8 - I just started with GU last night and I think it worked out good.

I agree that once you get to 10 miles anything is possible as you only need 3 more miles to cross the finish line!!:banana:

On a physical side : my left shin is in bad shape, been wearing my compression sleeves for the run and it does help and I also have new sneakers too. I wore heels today to work and was OK - but god do they hurt off and on - its just weird. I dont run again until tomorrow so I will see how that goes............... 3 more runs this week to go :)
