Thanks Coach. That's exactly what I was looking for. I like to map things out.

And, actually, according to the Disney Park Hours calendar, they do still have MK opening at 8am even on race day instead of the usual 9am. So, that still may be interesting (especially with traffic into the park, etc...) I have confidence in Disney's ability to put together events like this, so I assume they know what they're doing! :)

Just did the math and with a 7:20 starter running at 16 even they clear out of MK at 8:57. I would bet that the park does not open early. I know that early days are modified for the marathon weekend; even with the little park hours sheet given at check in indicating they were not cancelled for that day.

But then one never really knows....

Ugh - I have been trying to log on here daily so I can be inspired by everyone but have fallen off the last couple of days - hve not been doing any training either - not feeling very well. I am hoping to get back on track tomorrow! I have a 5k on Sunday and I want to do that in 45 minutes.

Hi Coach & Everyone :)

Been absent running for over 2 weeks, life got in the way and I also got a full time job in the education field - for which I am thrilled at!!! Which means I can cut my professor load at the college & Univ. :thumbsup2:cool1:

I am doing a half on Oct 3 (which is my second as my first was the Princess this year). I was following the marathonrookie plan - my question is ::

I am so out of wack, I am going to continue to train - do I count backwards the 4 weeks until the race or do I pick up where I left off?

I think my long run this week should be 8 miles and then follow the plan from there is my guess but I wanted to make sure before I did something?

I ran yesterday 3 and felt great I could have kept going easily another mile or two but did not want to push it. I too just bought new sneakers too which totally helped my shins and even wore my compression sleeves too for my shins just in case.

I was to run the 6 tonight, but figured my shins needed a day off in between as I just jumped back on the wagon :) If I run 6 tomorrow and do the other 3 runs and 8 on Sunday my guess is that I will be fine for the half in 4 weeks.

Sound right or should I be doing something else?

Suggestions please?

So if I read correctly, you should run 11 coming up and you left off missing an 8 and 10….
You have left , 11-12-9-8. Try this, 6-8-10-8-half. While you do not lose a lot of fitness over a two week period you will be a bundle of nerves wondering. So pick up you runs a little regressed from your previous point. You have run one half so you understand how it feels. Running a half from a long run of 10 is very manageable. If you have any concerns then plan these runs in ranges, rather than specific distance and try to push up to 12 miles. The pattern would follow: 6-8, 8-10, 10-12 and 6-8. I would stick with the shorter side of the plan to minimize injury potential and make the best of what you have on race day.

Had a beautiful run this morning. Was able to get in 3.4 miles within 40 min at a 11:45 pace. I love morning runs in S. Florida, becasue he doesn't feel like FL weather at 5:30 in the morning (no yucky hot, humid weather).

Coach I am going to throw a question at you, and would love to get your thoughts. As I have mentioned before in the past I am completing one the M4M plans. (I have ben making adjustments to land of inertval times of walking and running, and trying really hard to push more of the running and less walking) Anyways, as I follow the schedule of my weekday runs and long runs on Sat. What do you suggest I do when I complete the plan? Should I start all over where the long runs start at 2 miles and build up all over again? Or am I better off keeping my long runs in the higher mileage?

Let me know what you think! I would also love to hear everyone elses input as well :)

Also, looking for thoughts on an upcoming 5k, my brother would like me to join him on where proceeds go towards autism. Not till next month, but here's the situation: The day of the 5k is the day of my first 10 mile run. (I usually do my runs 4:30 or 5:30 in the morning. The 5k that day is an afternoon run around 5:30pm. Do you think I would be able to particiapte, maybe if I don't really push myself (take it nice and easy), or is it really recommended to sit that one out?

yesterday morning i ran 6 miles (my longest ever). later in the day my neighborhood labor day weekend party had a mile race that i was going to do. i walked out the door and my legs were SO sore so i nixed the race. if i was that sore after only 6 miles, i can only imagine how sore i'll be after longer races!

it is really up to how you're going to feel but after the 10 miler, don't push yourself in that 5k. you don't want to injure yourself! or, can you do the 10 miler the day before?

Thanks for sharing your experience. I told my brother considering the 10 miles is in the morning, I would have to see how I would feel. 10 miles is alot!

Dumbo_Buddy congrats on your sons races! sounds very exciting; and also on your fantastic 6 mile run. Go You :cheer2: I wil;l be doing my first 6miles on Saturday.

I would keep the miles up of possible. The plan would be to keep a long run of 9-10 alternating with a 5-6 mile long run. Or even a 10 mile followed by two week ends of 6. Or a third option is to keep all long runs around 6 miles. The main reason for keeping one in the 10 mile range is that it will take you over the 90 minue threshold once every 2-3 weeks. When is comes time for prepping for a race work backwards from the race and slot into the training plan where your base is located. So if you were alternating every other weekend with a 10 mile run, your training plan would not require that many weeks to get into the race. I haven’t looked, but the M4M plan would not require any additioanl training if I remember the plan’s mileage.

Can you run the 10 mile on Sunday? That would better assure a success in both runs. If not, you may want to run 7-8 long in the morning and the 5k that evening. Your legs would possibly feel slugissh during the 5k but just run through the burn (as long as there is not joint pain)

I agree with the coach... Switch your long run to another day!

Way to go Ladies will all your milage.

I wish I can say the same for me.
Busy with Family this weekend, so no run as of yet.
I know I will have to step it up soon. Starting to worry.

Coach, my longest run was been 4.5 miles
my shorts are 2.5 -3. Do I still have enough time to get it together to make the milage for the 1/2. I am also doing M4M
(I should of done 5miles this weekend)

So now that I have booked the Resort and registered I am really excited and a wee bit anxious. But I did have a fun thought the other day. After all this training and runing a 1/2 we will be at Disney with all those decadent treats. Does anyone know what they want to Splurge on post race? I am usually a pretty disciplined eater but I think I may have to go all out.:wizard::wizard::wizard:

I am hoping he says you have time. Mainly because you and I are at the same mileage :) . I did 4 miles yesterday and am planning for 5 this weekend. I printed out a calendar and, working my way backwards from the princess half, wrote down my long miles per week. The way I have it ( I found a 19 week Galloway program), I am supposed to 'start' the first of November. So I am using this time to get to 6 miles and feel relatively comfortable with the distance, and hope speed will come as I continue to train and will add hill and speed workouts.

Planning out the miles helped me to see concretely what I needed to do to prepare.

Those ice cream sandwhiches you can get on Main Street look pretty good. But then again so do the funnel cakes. Choices :rotfl:

Looking into getting a road id. For all current road id owners, who as the orginal? and who has the interactive. Deciding whioch one to get. I do know with the interactive after the first year there is a yearly fee.

I have the original. Mostly because I don't have any pre-existing conditions that I would need a first responder to know about right away. Knowing the contact phone numbers for my family is good enough.

hmm that makes sense. I too have no allergies of medical history...good point! If you don't me asking I know I would like to add a 3rd phone number ....do have engraved on there that you NKA or NO Med Hx or your blood type?

Nope. I have my partner's landline and cell phone numbers, and my father's cell phone number, since he's the next closest, geographically. My brother just moved to the city, so I may get his phone number on there at some point, too.

NKA is a good idea, though. I'll definitely think about adding it when I get my next one.

I always, always wear my RoadID out when I'm running, even though I'm never too far from home, and I have my cell. But I'm about to be running destination races for the first time, so it gives me a LOT of comfort, knowing my family can be reached in an emergency, which hopefully won't happen, ever!

If you don't have a RoadID, and you're racing, a smart thing to do is to write down an emergency number on your bib.
