Thanks!! I'm originally from Freeport, but live in Chicago now. I still like to make it out that way and am looking to do a 5K sometime this Fall to give me some race experience prior to Disney.

I completed my long run this week... 3.5 miles. I think I've only ran that far in my life ONCE. Glad it's over. 50 minutes with a little change. Needed to make sure I finished that since I had a little downer today. I got on the scale and was up two pounds. I think it's water since I ate a sandwich for lunch yesterday and our dinnner was unusually salty also, but of course had that frustration. I tried desperately not to "eat my feelings" all day long! This is what happens when I sneak on the scale mid-week!

Compression sleeves came today... and they're on.

does anyone have good places to run while at Disney World on vacation? I will be there in Sept, Dec, and Jan and will need to do at least a few short runs. I won't do the long runs while at Disney - let's be serious, i'll be lucky if i even get the short runs in! I at least want to make the effort.

Also, I need to start eating better. Yeah, sure I'm running, but then i'm stuffing my fast with ice cream and all sorts of other bad for me food. Does anyone have a good diet plan for runners looking to lose a little? I'm pretty good at sticking with plans if it's laid out for me and easy!

Major Right Knee Pain

I did 3 miles on Monday with my run club on sidewalks. Then yesterday my knee felt tight. By the end of the day it went from tight to pain. I can walk. But I can not do stairs. It feels like its pulling.

I did not do any workout yesterday and today is to be crosstrain/weights
and 4 miles on Saturday.

How to I stop the pain?

This Sucks

Hope you are on the mend!

Just wanted to pop my head in, introduce myself & say hi. Happy training everyone!

Welcome to both of you! I've received a lot of support and information from this thread since I've started my training; I know you will too.

Congrats on the run!

Welcome Tiffj, I have to say I am inspired by your mom at age 69 doing a half WOW :worship:

Welcome to you Tink0224. I am near the Joliet area.
In the city there will be a hot chocolate 5K in November, there is also a 15K
I wanted to do the 15, but I don't know if I am ready yet.

Okay after a great 4mile run today at 5:30 thios morning, I think I am making the grand decision of no longer doing afternoon runs (which i have done for the past 2 weeks as I had to go back to work as a school teacxher). Here in S. Florida it is just way to humid and hot even at 7:30 pm. Even though the weather is not as bad at that time in the evening, I also dread the fact I have to workout after a long day of work.

Therefore I guess we will start during the week workouts 4:30 in the morning so I can shower and the hair done before leaving for work. After the morning run today I feel so much more awake and better (which is how I felt all summer when doing it this way). I thought I would dread the c4:30 morning runs but not so bad. Plus I do better with an empty stomach as opposed to eating during the day and 1 hr prior to riunning.

Now I want to up my running intervals and would love some suggestions. I am currently doing 3min walk / 1 run. I think I am ready to do at least 2 min running. Now should I do 3min walk still and /2 run; do a 2 walk:2run, or l;astly 1 min walk; 2 min wun Please help as I am always still learning.

P.S. A reason for thinking its time up the training is after thios morning 3:1 interval walk/run of 4 miles, I felt so good that I felt as if I could do another 4miles on top of it. (Cannot believe that just came out of mouth, gotta love no humidity and heat at 5:30 am)

Jeter02,

HockeyKat who posts here can help you, she has done 2 1/2's this year doing intervals.

I just did 4 miles on the tread mill, run/walk in 62 mins. It was hard but I feel good. I not sure I could of done 1 more mile but I am happy with the 4.

My knee is tight, but ok

i just got home after a run and did the mapmyrun.com on it. it said it was 3.94 miles. come on! can i just say it was 4 miles?? close enough, right?? ;) i did it in 45 min!

i did 4 yesterday and 4 today (4 was supposed to be my LR this week). while i don't think two LRs in a row are something i'm supposed to do, i figured that since 4 isn't all that long that it would be ok. also, the weekday runs are in the 3-4 range. i was going to rest today but tomorrow it's supposed to rain so i figured i'd get the run in now. plus, it's BEAUTIFUL out!

i'm now icing my knees.

sept. 12th is a 5k in central park that i'm signed up for! woot! i can do it!

45 min is a great time. Your doing an awesome job, Keep up the good work. I too have used map my run. I prefer to just use google maps, I feel like its a bite more accurate distance. I always prefer the site that gives the better mileage (bigger number), it makes me feel better :)

I'm with you as far as doing the run in the morning. I have been doing it at 7:30 in the evening. I find it more difficult to get myself motivated. After a long day at work I just want to relax and not run in the dreaded Florida heat! So starting Monday when my boys go back to school I will run in the morning. My older son is in high school and has to be at his bus stop at 5:45 so my plan is to drop him off then go home to run then shower and get to work.

Currently, I am running with a running group on Saturday mornings (6:00 am this morning) and the run is so much easier and I feel almost refreshed when I am done. We did 6 miles this morning!

Are you still doing the 5K at Tradewinds?

Good luck to you on the morning runs and I hope you have a great first day of school !! :cheer2:

Are you doing the Komen 5k? That sounds like a good one.

I did the 5k in Harlem this morning in 27:47. PR of 1:19 for me, which felt good.

Great job on your training...I am NO expert, but I the Galloway page on training for a 1/2 gives suggestions. I did my first 1/2 10 years ago starting from zero doing a 2min run, 1 mile walk. Worked for me!
