Sleep in at WDW? No way!

I actually do think we'll sleep in a LITTLE bit, but try to walk over to EPCOT before Rope Drop. It'll be an easy day in World Showcase and by the clown pool.

Man, I totally sleep in at WDW! My husband and I treat it like a real R&R vacation, though, lots of leisure to go with our theme park. We go at least twice a year, and in low season, so that probably helps.

I think I have seen rope drop once, maybe, in over 10 trips.

Sounds like a plan. :) I would much prefer that race because I am not a morning person. Maybe next year.

Me too, on all counts. I just don't think I can swing it, though, unless someone wants to let me sleep on their floor!

We're twice a year low season people, too, but I'm commando all the way.

I work for a hotel company. I usually never pay more than $39 a night. The hotel room is the cheap part! :)

oh! Oh! A fellow Sparker!! I am laurie5658 (with the "don't make me slap you with my flip flop" avatar. What is your Spark username?

I'm Jenelope at SP, too. Among other teams, I'm on the Disney Princess Half Marathon 2011 team (which needs to perk up!), the Disney Distance team, and the DISboards Disney-aholics team. I need a cute avatar.

Do you stay on property?

I have stayed on Property (Disney Hotels), but I usually stay at the Holiday Inn Downtown Disney so I guess it is technically on Property. The rate may go up to $59 but we will see. It is still a lot cheaper and nicer than staying at a Disney Hotel in the Value Segment and just as convenient.

At Disneyland, I am staying at a Crowne Plaza for $39 a night less a mile from the park.

There are some great perks to working for this company...or any hotel company for that matter. I can stay at some pretty awesome hotels around the world for very cheap!!

Sounds like a plan, Kat! :) Yes, the race fee is a bit steep but the room would be so cheap! :cheer2:

I am giving myself the gift of the first half marathon for my birthday. I am looking into the marathon for mortals. I used to be really in shape but long commute and apathy have taken over. What better way to start than with a half marathon at the happiest place on earth.

I am kind of nervous because even though I was in the army, I hate running. I want to love it so I will force myself to love it. Better yet, running will force me to love my body.

So I went 3.5 miles on Saturday and I felt like I was about to die. Ok, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration but it was really hard. Granted the fact that it was 85 degrees and 82% humidity probably didn't help, but I was at a 15 minute mile. And I struggled with that. So I feel a little (ok a lot) discouraged that I am going to be able to make the pace requirement
So tell me logically that I have time to increase my speed and that I will be fine.
But on the flip side- I went 3.5 miles. Which I haven't done in years. And while Orlando may be as humid as Houston, it won't be nearly as hot. Or am I just rationalizing?

You're not going to die! :) 3.5 is super, especially in that heat. I did 4 miles in about those conditions on Friday and also thought I was going to die. It cooled down here to the high 70s today and I did 8!

Heat and humidity have a huge impact on our running. 82% humidity is high. Two weeks ago I had 2 terrible runs, and I thought, what am I doing. I can't ever run a HM. Now I have had a few good runs and I am believing I can do this. What you are feeling is normal. YES, you have time to increase your speed. It takes time. Kudos on the 3.5 miles, that's great! :)

Hoping in someway instead of walk/run I may be able to reverse it to run / walk plan when I re-start the training plan mid. November in prep for the Princess!

I haven't really looked at the walk/run plan but I am sure you should be able to try the run/walk plan by Nov. I just started it this week and so far it has been going pretty well.

My goal is to run the whole thing, as I finished in 2:45 but hit the wall at mile 10 otherwise would have finished 2:30-2:40..........I can do it!!

Was 10 miles your longest run in training? This is one thing that makes me nervous. I have heard from a few people that since their longest runs were 10 miles that they hit a wall at 10 miles also and I am really trying to avoid that.

This year I will likely do tights and a running skirt, and who knows on top. It will totally depend on the weather and my weight.

Right now I am planning on wearing a running skirt with capris built in. I can't run in shorts because my legs chafe so I wear capris all the time anyway.

I have a SP page too, but I have not been on there in a long time. I may have to pop over and check out the Princess HM team.

I have been right there with you. We did 3 miles today and it was tough. The heat and humidity are really making me struggle more then I was earlier in the year. You DO have time to work on your pace and when the weather lets up a bit it will be a bit easier. Just stick with it. Also remember even Houston isn't all that hot in Feb, although it might have it's days.

Today has been a big day today for my running-wise. Lots of developments. First, DH and I went out together this morning (those who remember my post from last night know what a disaster that was) and this time, I was faster than him!!! I was so proud of myself.

Then DH called and changed our hotel ressie for the half marathon from AKV to BWV which we are really excited about. We have always wanted to stay there.

Then, we got together with my rents who bought me a garmin 305 for my birthday! I can't wait to try it on Wednesday.

I keep forgetting to post this question...

I am currently in week 8 of the c25k training program. One of the things I really like about the program is the 5 minute warm up walk that is built into each workout. Here is my question...How do you warm up on race day? Do you do jumping jacks or something just before you start? Do you start out walking for the first 5 minutes? Any tips would help.

Thanks!!

I would say that most don't warm up beforehand. Many of us stretch, move around mainly to keep warm. I didn't see anyone start out walking, but I also was ahead of those at first who were walking the half - but I am pretty sure most started jogging but some gunned it. I personally just jogged in the beginning. By the time the race comes around you will be in better shape if you stick to your plans and jogging will become a replacement for that five minute walk beforehand. I think most of us were more interested in reserving our energy and not freezing to death. I didn't see any injuries until about mile 7 and I honestly think that most of those were due to pushing themselves too hard and didn't involve not warming up. Do what is comfortable for you when the race comes around. If you do decide to walk in the beginning, make sure you move to the very back of your corral to allow those running to stay in front of you.

There's hope! There HAS to be hope, because I'm right there with you...on mile 2 of 3 and wondering what the heck I'm doing! I'm in Houston too and, believe me, I know how those after-work runs feel in all that heat...half of the water I carry ends up getting poured on me rather than used for drinking! But it can be done...I run during the week at Memorial Park with hundreds of other people out there doing it too so there's proof! Just keep focused and think about how nice it's going to feel when the weather starts to turn finally...and by that time you'll be able to do even more miles and feel great. The heat and humidity definitely have an impact...my runs are close to a minute and a half faster on saturdays when I am able to get up and run early in the morning before it's scorching. So, don't worry! Just keep at it and you'll get there. Do you track all your mileage and times? I keep a little mini-notebook in my car and after I've done my post-run stretch, I crank up the AC and take a minute to record the info I've collected on my watch before I head back home. It gives me something to flip back to and see the progress I've made...just a little extra motivating tool that works for me. :flower3:

It is a pretty long walk to the corrals - which will give you some time to warm up.

Just pay close attention to the weather forecasts - and they will change up to the day you run - and make sure you have warm clothes if it is going to be cold. I wore a throw away sweatshirt with a hood and pants. Many people were quite cold waiting at the corrals and I was toasty warm! That helped me to start warm and not have to worry about any injury I didn't already have.

But the walk to the corrals is long - I want to say a mile? Or maybe a little less than that?

I too work for a hotel, but it is a stand alone resort, not other properties, I only get benifits at my hotel.

pikaboo, I am right there with you. I started running/walking in Dec and then I could not do 1 mile. I am still very slow 15min walk/ run but I have done up to 4.5. Last night I did the first day of Marthons 4 Mortals Run/Walk 1/2 plan
Run 3 mins walk 2 mins do that 7 times = 35 mins I did 2.4 miles on the treadmill, it was hard but I did not die, I then went out to cut the grass for 30 mins. With advice and help from all the wonderful people on Dis We CAN and WILL DO THIS!!!

I did one of the walk / run 1/2 plan from marathoning mortals walk 3 min run 1 8 times. I was able to complete 2.3 miles within the 32min. Ugggg it was so not fun almost felt like tourture. My running buddy told me we didn't have to run anymore and we can just stop, I told her NO WAY! as much as I hate saying it I am not going to start a training plan and just give up or fully complete day one. Was proud when I found out I did 13:55 pace per mile but boy my inner thighs are feeling that workout today....uggg

During that workout I dreaded all parts where I had to run and questioned myself why am doing this? On race day I have to 11more miles (this was a little scary)

Hopefully it will on get easier and more enjoyable as the training days go by, I hope

Thats a great time!!
I too hope in 7 months it will be easier, I am worried about the distance also.
Now I have gone as far as 4.5 outside in 61 mins!!
