So excited to be registering in a few days. This will be the first 1/2 marathon for my friend and I... and we're hoping to bring several others along for this fun girls weekend! Time will tell who caves and comes with us :) Looking forward to preparing with everyone!

I am super excited to sign up for the 2011 Disney Princess Martahon on Tuesday! This will be my very first marathon or race ever. I have no running background at all, but am starting to train for it. will most likely walk/run the race.

Unfortunately my beautiful mom lost her battle to breast cancer on June 15th, and I want to particpate in this marathon in her honor. I also plan on raising money to donate to support breast cancer research.

I hope I will be able to complete the race, as it seems to have enough things to keep my attention going with all the characters and disney theme of course.

Out of curosity how much time do we have in order to complete the half marathon?

I am so sorry about your mom. I think it's wonderful that you are doing this in her honor. From what I have read, you have to complete the race at a 16min/mile pace in order to not get sweeped.

Thanks Dinseyway. Now lets hope 16 min/mile (3.5 hours) is do-able on the part with no background in the land of running.

Thanks for the support! I actually bought the book marathoning for mortals the other, I finished it all in one day. Very motivational, and an extremely useful guidance tool. Would highly recommend the book to any first time runner/marathoner like me.

Cannot wait to register tomorrow :)

I overheard a friend make this recommendation - though you have 16 minutes for each mile, try to train to finish each mile in 15 minutes. That way, you automatically have some padding. Of course, the excitement will make you walk faster, but the faster you are, the more time you have for pictures!

Good luck!

As for myself, I booked a room for the Princess Half weekend, but haven't signed up yet. I got sick before running it last year, and am scheduled to run the Disneyland Half and the Wine and Dine Half, and I think I want to get through at least one of those before signing up for another race and jinxing myself!

The more pad time, the better. I started off with a goal of 13 minute miles, and I'm already training at about a 10 minute mile. :cool1:

I have never ran a HM and that's the book that was recommended to me by I few people. As I sit here with about 4 training programs in front of me, I am leaning towards Bingham's plan. I may adapt a titch though.:)

I agree. That book was a great read and full of such great info. I started the walk/run method and it is soo much better than walking alone or running alone, as the former seemed to hurt my shins and the latter was a lot harder for me. I am doing the galloway 10K first and then going to do the half marathon training.

I'm jealous! I started out at a 12, was aiming for an 11, and now due to some health issues, am at around a 13. But I'm slowly learning that maybe I will never be fast, but I can do it and I can finish. :)

However, I totally take advantage of the fact that my race partner finishes a minimum of 30 minutes before me, so she can be in charge of scoping out the finish line amenities for me!

That's awesome! How long did it take for you to get to that point?

About three months, March to June. I've been hanging near 10 min/mile for a month now, some up, some down, depending on the heat. Ran a 5k this morning at 9:05 pace, but ran a 5M at 11:10 pace two weeks ago. It's a struggle.

You all are sounding like some inspirational people yourselves. I completely agree with you all. I was planning on definitely setting my goal to be 15 miles/min (even less would be fantastic) to spear myself from being swept. I am planning on the walk/run method to give myself some extra time on the clock; plus it adds a little exciment to the plain walk.

Cannot wait to be joining you spectacular women on race day!

Hello all...I just wanted to say hey and say I am very inspired by this board. I am a non runner and have just started ton train for the princess half. My girlfriends and I will be attempting to run it. This will be the first for all of us. We are both excited and nervous!! Thanks for the motivation already!

Welcome Sabnrob06! I think with Disney being a magical place, can get anyone excited, and yet happy to run a race! I know we all can do it!

I just went to the site to register and I am not able to yet. Is it simply too early in the day??? (I have run the Freihofers Race for Women 5K for the last 10 years, and always end up with a number in the 2500's. So for once, I'd like to get a lower number! LOL)...:goodvibes

@jeter02---THANKS!!!!!

I tried to get on this morning to register also and can't get on! When can we register????

I just tried calling Disney, but of course didn't get an answer. So, I decided to look on Active.com to see if I could find anything there. I did a search, but the only thing that came up for the Princess Weekend is the option to buy the pin. I'm wondering if they are just slow about getting registration open this morning. I know I should be patient, but it's just aggrivating having to wait when I was so excited about finally getting to register today. Especially after they've already pushed it back once. Maybe they'll have something up in a little while!

Was wondering the same???? If I see anything open up, I will post to let everyone know!

Good luck to everyone registering today. I'm going to wait just a few weeks to make my final decision.... if I run Princess, it'll be on a Wine & Dine bounceback. :cool1:
