Official 2011 Disneyland Half Thread!

I had a completely different experience. They didn't check corrals one bit. They told people to go to their corrals, but I saw no bib checking whatsoever. The only race I have been in at Disney where they were sticklers about it was the Princess. They really did look at bib's a couple years ago...granted it could have just been the volunteer. I didn't see anyone asking to move so come race morning, do whatever you want. I highly doubt anyone is going to turn you in for hopping corrals.

They aren't turning you in for hopping corrals, they just weren't letting people move up. They also weren't checking bibs IN the corrals, just the corrals entrance. Princess was a stickler for corral placement, although people were hopping the fences into their desired corrals left and right. I'm sure that probably happened at Disneyland as well.

At DL last year I was stopped, asked to show my number which had my corral assignment and then let in. Right behind me as a father running with his daughter and his daughter was in my corral (C if I remember correctly), but he was one or two corrals back. They turned the father away and told him if he wanted to run with his daughter she could move back with him.

Go for it and run where you want to, although I'm not sure why it's such a big deal to move up corrals since they don't start your time until you pass the start. Again, just don't be surprised if you're turned away and don't be surprised if you're allowed in.

I'm just off the injured list after a month with no running. I've kept up with some cross training by bicycle riding several days a week but after running a few times this week for the first time in a month I feel I've lost it. I've got plans to kick it into highgear without reinjuring my ankle. Thanks for listening to me vent my concerns.

Congrats on getting off the injured list! Don't kick it up to high too fast just in case you re-injure yourself... The running will come back eventually, don't worry about that. Good job on cross training through your recovery though! I know that was the hardest part when I had an ankle injury as well.

Thanks, things are progressing slowly but nicely. I'm hoping to run 10 miles by next week.

It's a bit hard to believe we're at 3 weeks and counting. Last Friday I did my longest long run of this cycle, 15 miles. In my past 3 I built up to 10 miles but since this is at the beginning of my vacation I want to be able to finish and be able to enjoy the rest of the vacation. The 15 miles went pretty well. I did have a bit of knee problem early on, like miles 4-8. I bought some new every day shoes that I wore to work the first time on Thursday and I'm wondering if it's a delayed reaction from that. I'm hoping to try and get them broken in before Disneyland. I don't think it's the running shoes. I did 13 miles in that pair 3 weeks ago without any problems. Although I may switch to one of my other pairs for my long run this Friday before making my final decision on race shoes.

Good job, Jeremy! Have you looked in to KT Tape? I'm hearing amazing things about that stuff and if you are having knee issues, it might help!

I did my 5 mile run this AM. I live in Phoenix so had to be up and out at 5:30 am. The run went really well. I'm thrilled with my performance. Next Sunday is my ten mile run. I feel more confident for it.

Really excited for our 1/2 marathon in 3 weeks! :woohoo:

I haven't look at KT Tape yet. Right now, It's been a one shot deal. If it continues, I may need to look into something. Running faster on a few of my run segment and a little bit of stretching mid run seemed to help a lot. That's what made me think it was something from the day before that needed to get worked out.

Last year they had a KT tape display at the expo and if you bought the tape, they would put it on for you so you were all set. Might not work if you are doing the expo on Friday (that would be interesting tan lines), but is an option for you if you have any concerns.

Good luck with the last couple weeks of training! Sunnny and warm in SoCal today. Hoping that marine layer will be around race weekend. Makes the morning runs sooooo nice.

I started running last week after taking a month off to recover from an ankle injury. I was taking it slow all week just to make sure I didn't reinjure myself. On Saturday I rode my bicycle 24 miles in less than 2 hours and my plan for Sunday was to run 5 miles. I was able to run 8 miles fine, however my average pace (11:12 per mile) was a slower than my average. Nevertheless, the half is more about having fun. Good luck everyone.

Got my 10 miles in this morning - did a faster 6.2 for a local 10k, then just took my D tag and number off and ran the last 4 in another area of the park at a slower pace.

I was super excited this morning as it was GREAT running weather - overcast and 66 at race start. I had never run in this particular park (it is on the other side of town), so was unsure what to expect for trail surface and hills/flat, etc.

The entire course was on a bike path and pretty flat. I had originally planned to go all out in the 6.2 to try to move up a corral, but thought better of it as I didn't want to hurt myself so close to Disneyland - no use teasing the race gods :worship:

I was running at a good steady clip and feeling very comfortable in the first cooler temps we have had in at least 6 weeks. When I glanced at my pace for the first mile, I was pleasantly surprised at how quick my pace was...long story short - I kept chugging along at this steady pace, even ran the negative splits and absolutely clobbered my 10k PR - I took 9 minutes off my previous best 10k time :woohoo:

So, I will be bringing a print out of my time and see if that does net me a corral shift.

Here's hoping everyone's last couple of weeks of training go well.

Progress for DL sounds like it is going well for everyone. Hard to believe it will be over in 3 weeks.

On Friday I went from our 14 feet above sea level home in SW Fl. to 4000+ feet above sea level here in TX. Will be here for a while so my fun, hilly training now starts.

Got out today for a 10K walk and averaged 10:24/mile. At DL I will be walking with DW for our C2C but in reality my training is for the Mickey in January.

Good luck and happy feet, legs and all of the rest of the body parts to everyone.

I guess 10ks were popular yesterday! I also ran a 10k; I used it a a practice run for the 1/2. I don't run in a group so I wanted to get used to the crowd. I also figured out how I want to do my run/walk intervals in DL. I had forgotten how much I like races, the last one I did was the Princess in Feb.!

Less than 3 weeks away, folks!:cool1::cool1: I hope everyone's training is going well!

Great job every on the 10k's. I don't think my speed has improved enough to try and get a 10K in before the race. Right now, I'm mostly in the don't do anything stupid phase of my training. I've got 1 speed work workout this weekend. It's supposed to be 800m intervals but I may swap it for a 10K or so tempo run before starting my taper.

Jeremy (and any other Buckeyes) - are you doing the Nationwide Columbus Half in Oct? I signed up the other day - I work for Nationwide, so I get a discount :thumbsup2

I ran the half last year. I was tossing around the idea of running it this year but decided not to do it. It may be my favorite half I've run so far. It's a nice course that's mostly flat. For the half marathoners, there's one significant uphill on high street in miles 12 and 13 before a downhill finish. But it it's fairly gradual. There is also a ton of on course support and entertainment. There was a band DJ, or something about every 1/2 mile.

I've been tossing around the idea of trying the full marathon next year. I had done the 15 mile run on Friday to start to see how my body would handle the longer mileage.

It sounds like your in pretty good shape. I would still try to get at least one 10 miler in before the race. There's still plenty on time. Hopefully you can find a cool morning to get it in.

Thanks :-) Oh I wish I was in better shape...still about 30 pounds overweight, and I am a slow runner! I run/walk. I managed to do the WDW half in January without much training at all (due to my parent's deaths in 2010). I have been working hard for this one, especially with the heat and humidity in FL during the summer! I completed the WDW half in 3:19:07, but I did it. My hopes for DL is a better time, but as long as I beat the sweepers, I get my C2C medal. We have Wine and Dine in October and the WDW in Jan I will continue training for! Cannot wait to run in CA! Tomorrow...10 miles (hope to get out the door by 545am, and home no later than 815am...while my running pace is just shy of 14 min/mile, I don't overdue on these hot days! 15 days until I am on a plane bound for California!

I am trying really hard not to worry about being so sloooow. I have these awful visions of me being all alone at the back of the pack! Yesterday I did 9 miles and with stretching partway through and walking occasionally, my overall average was 14 minutes per mile. I am hoping that some of the excitement of race day will help me get my butt in gear a little better.

The race day adrenaline will kick in and give you a boost. And don't worry, there are others here who aren't speedy, who like to enjoy the moment. :goodvibes:thumbsup2 (well me at least):flower3::upsidedow

I finally booked my flight out. I decided to extend it by two days so I can see more of California.

I'm hoping I can knock out a 10 mile run this Sunday and get the tapering down.
