Official 2011 Disneyland Half Thread!

You folks averaging 14 m/m should have no worries! The last year I did this race - before the knees kept me from it - I averaged a 17m/m and I still beat the sweepers!

Good Luck with your final two weeks of training. Tomorrow is my last long run (12 miles) and then the taper. I can't wait to get on the airplane in two weeks....finally the race is getting close after a long time of anticipation.
Happy Running!

Just a heads up, if you are a procrastinator like me, and you are looking to get any discounted tickets you must have your order placed by 5pm PST on Monday August 22. (I ordered mine today....I put it off a while.)

I had to tell someone, I am unhappy. :worried:

Today I was scheduled to do 12 miles but only got 2 in. I stumbled on a rock at mile 1.2 and almost went down - slightly twisting my ankle and knee. You know the usual clusty move. :sad2: Anyway, I walked it off to see how bad it was. Everything seemed ok. :thumbsup2 Started running again and at one point my knee felt like it was giving out and I was going down. So I stopped and walked home. I was afraid if I kept going I would injure it more. I am just frustrated because it was my big run before the race. ERRRR!!!

I am trying really hard not to worry about being so sloooow. I have these awful visions of me being all alone at the back of the pack! Yesterday I did 9 miles and with stretching partway through and walking occasionally, my overall average was 14 minutes per mile. I am hoping that some of the excitement of race day will help me get my butt in gear a little better.

I also think that at a 14:00 mile training pace you should be fine at staying away from the sweepers. I'm going to guess you have a sub 3:00 half easily (+ time for pictures).

Sorry to hear about your twist. Hopefully It's minor and doesn't hurt your half.

My husband pointed out to me last night that we are leaving to drive to Anaheim two weeks from today. Is anyone else out there freaking excited????!!!! It almost makes me want to cry! I know I am going to be crying at different points along the course - pay no attention to me - Disneyland makes me emotional

I may be right there beside you. I've never been to DL but I tend to get emotional the first time I cross under the train station at WDW.

This is my first destination race so I'm a little bit nervous with some of the logistical things. So long as my plane isn't late, I think I have everything figured out.

Saturday - Fly-in/Packet pickup/Check into Travelodge Ball Rd./try to get to bed early.

Sunday - Race, after short nap back to DL/CA to show off medal and mainly ride rides that are going on refurb. Finish with Fantasmic and Fireworks.

Monday - Check into GCV/ Knotts Berry Farm

Tuesday - DL/CA Finish with WOC.

Wednesday - Resort day/Laundry/Pool/Angels game in the evening.

Thursday - DL/CA Finish with WOC.

Friday - DL/CA Finish with Fantasmic/Fireworks.

Saturday - Pick up rental car Exploring/Beach/ Maybe hit some of the outlet malls.

Sunday - Check out of GCV/ travel to Valencia and Six Flags Magic Mountain (won tickets from coke). Staying at Hyatt Valencia

Monday - Explore Hollywood area Return rental car, Stay in hotel near LAX

Tuesday - Fly Home/ Morning departure.

Wow - it sounds like you have a great trip planned! How fun! We are just driving down Friday to stay the night with a friend in Culver City, then going to the expo Saturday and basically lazing around and eating some good food, then Sunday race, quick trip back to the hotel to shower and change, then that is the day we spend at the parks and then home on Monday. Quick trip for us!

It'll be a quick trip for me since I was only able to get 4 days off at work (and that was pushing my days off from 2 different weeks together). However, I have a ton planned because this is my first trip home to Cali since moving in June.

I'm flying in Friday morning and heading home (my parents live about an hourish from Disneyland). We're also getting new phones and other technical things dealt with. Saturday we're heading to Dland. We got a DVC room for Saturday and Sunday night, but gave up Sunday night's reservation so I could go back to the house after the race and have a mini-reunion with some friends :grouphug:.

It'll be a busy, but really fun weekend. Luckily, the day after I fly back looks pretty calm at work.

I teach college and have 2 weeks off between summer quarter and fall quarter. I figured if I'm going to spend the money I'm should do it big. If you look at my sig. for the past several years I've planned big Disney trips every other year. It's cheaper going every other year for 10 days than going every year for 5. After this it will probably be 2013 or 2014 before my next trip.

Thats so funny, that is exactly how my trip sounds. Been to WDW a million times but never DL, so I am so excited. And printed my waiver today, I am nervous my training is going to catch up to me around mile 8 and I will crash. Didnt run like I wanted the past few weeks. I guess this will have to be my warmup for Wine and Dine.

Good luck to everyone! Hope you all do fantastic!

If anyone's been looking for runner tracking, I talked to the contact people for the DL half to ask about it. Originally, they said it would be available at the expo and I pointed out that it says on the website it will be set up there as well and we need to do it before we leave due to logistics. Here is their answer:

Hello Sports Enthusiast!

Thank you for your note. The information you are requesting regarding tracking runners will be available on the Disneyland Half Marathon website with in the next few days.

Is anyone taking advantage of the Angels' game ticket voucher for the game on August 4th? The price of the voucher is $8 prepaid or $10 at the expo for race participants.

My question is, do you actually get the ticket or do you have to redeem it at the game for a ticket? Does anyone know how it works?

Thanks so much! My DH and DS are realllly looking forward to their trip for the Coast to Coast Medal!
:yay:

I had emailed gettravel.com. The "tickets" are vouchers that are good for any of the games in the homestand from Sept 2 to 7th. I'm planning on going to the Mariner's game on the 7th. You need to turn the voucher in to get the real ticket.

Are there any grocery delivery services in the Disneyland area? We're staying at the Best Western Stovall, without a car, and will need to buy bottled water and some other groceries that aren't "travel" friendly.

Did 12.5 miles today, let the taper begin! Can't believe that the race is only two weeks away!

I'm in the same boat as you with training, if not a little worse. My farthest run since moving to Florida was 5.5 mile(ish), and my farthest total is close to 7 miles. We'll see how this goes, but right now I'm just hoping to survive.

Getting excited, here!

We're flying in on Friday morning (arriving at SNA at 9:30 am). Here's the plan:

Friday: Fly in / expo / DCA for WOC

Saturday: DL

Sunday: Run / DL / Blue Bayou for dinner

Monday: Parks / Fly home at 6:30

It'll be a fast trip, but we're looking forward do it. It'll be our first time away from our 1 year old son so I'm a bit nervous, but I'm also looking forward to some "adult" time. I haven't been training nearly enough - I haven't run more than 5 miles at a time since the half marathon that I ran in June. :rolleyes1 I did a tri last weekend so I have been keeping active, but definitely not putting in the running miles that I should be. Oh well, it'll get done. ;)

I haven't seen anything about a WISH meet before the race - have I missed something? I know that there has traditionally been the Jamba Juice meet on the Friday afternoon...

As far as I know, there's been no plans made yet for a Dis meet, neither here or on the DL board thread. I don't fly in until Saturday, so for me it would need to be Saturday evening or later.

Also, for those compulsive types, Accuweather.com has their early forecast for race day. From past experience it's normally wrong, but the trends are normally pretty good. Right now, their showing lows in the mid 60 and highs in the upper 80's to low 90's in the days leading up to race day.

My training hasn't been what I hoped for either this time around; I keep skipping runs. Today I'm trying for 10 miles, but I woke up late and now have to try it as the temp. is rising...

I am getting excited for DisneyLand!! This will be my first time flying across the country; I've never been further west than Ohio!
My plan:

arrive Friday morning, then check into my hotel and hit the expo before heading to DL. I have a WOC picnic lunch ordered, so I'll head to DCA at some point.

Saturday I have a reservation at Ariels for lunch so I'll be in DCA for the day. I think I will try and go over to DL to see the Magic, Memories and You show before heading to bed.

Sunday is the race and then I'll be in DL. And as a special treat for myself I'll be doing the Fantasmic dessert viewing :)

Not sure what I'll be doing Monday. My flight leaves at 9pm so I can go enjoy the parks. I only have a 3 day hopper, so I'll have to add a day at some point.

I will be interested to know what those of you who have only been to WDW before think of the park - Disneyland has always been "my" park since I grew up in California, and I have always felt that it is special as it was the first. I finlly got to go to WDW last year, and I loved it, but it didn't replace Dland in my heart. I can always just imagine Walt walking through the park as he often did. Wish I had been there then!
