Official 2010 College Football Discussion Thread

I don't understand how the polls place Oregon ahead of Auburn in the rankings. Auburn deserves to be ranked #1. How many ranked teams does Oregon play and the same goes for TCU and Boise St.? I was surprised to see that LSU placed 5th in the rankings. I think that strength of schedule played a role in their ranking. I just hope that they can hold on to it throughout the rest of their schedule. They still have to play ULM, Ole Miss, and Arkansas (that is another key game for the Tigers in Arkansas).

I guess I'm just partial to the SEC. :thumbsup2

GEAUX TIGERS !!!

LSU has had a tough schedule, you should not be surprised at all that LSU is #5. I certainly was not. They belong there. In fact, I would put them higher than that. The fact that two of the SEC West teams are in the top 5 says volumes. I listened to the BCS show, as I do every week, and just shake my head and listen to it rattle. There seems to be very little respect for the SEC among former players/commentators that were never a part of the rivalries. They have no clue (with the exception of Herbstreet) about what it takes to survive a season in the SEC. Put any team outside the SEC in an SEC schedule and I doubt any team could survive, much less break an even record. But, that is just MHO.

Deckerhoff is very annoying. I wish he would stick to just FSU games, so I would never hear him on the radio.

No one should be allowed to be an announcer for a sport, unless they played or coached the sport on a professional level. Period.

Is the she-man also calling the FSU/NC State game?

I heard her/him when I played back FSU's opener on the DVR.

Having three daughters, I am very much in favor of equal rights.

But, I don't like hearing a woman call a football game.

I know that's not PC, but I don't like it.

Maybe I'll turn down the sound tomorrow night, and find Gene Deckerhoff on my radio dial. :thumbsup2

Good luck Nollies!

Hey all - long time, no post! Work's just kept me really busy. DH just bought me a new laptop, so hopefully that will help! :thumbsup2
Lovin' the Hogs win this weekend... it's turning out to be one of the more enjoyable seasons to watch them! Yes, wish we could have beat Bama, yes have had some dumb things happen, but overall we're doing pretty good! Feel bad for my SC friends down here, they just keep sliding now - they're barely hanging on to the top 25 now.

I guess I'm just partial to the SEC. :thumbsup2

Me too! :yay:

So true! :thumbsup2

Wow oh wow.

I send my laptop off for repairs and the whole world is upside down.

First off, congrats to LSU for their game versus Bama. The coaching part of LSU did not hurt the Tigers and they played an inspired game versus the Tide. Bama never got the running game going. Too much running between the tackles. I think GMAC keys too much on Julio when we have lots of other great receivers. Early on in this thread I told you the defense this year would not be as good as last years' and that the offense would have to step up to cover part of that. Well it didn't happen. So my hat is off to The Hat - it was a well played game.

I mean when you're on top there's only one way to go. Everyone tries to tear you down. But that's okay. It's better to be a Bama fan any day.

Second off, I haven't read back on all the posts since I last posted but I think there is a lot missing. I think it's great that Auburn is having such a fine year - sounds like the Clampetts are trying to move to Beverly. I'm happy for our country cousins.

But this latest little Cam-gate has the Tiger fanbase in knots. I can't spill it all here but it's not pretty. The whole story hasn't been covered here. Serious problems within the fambly. Given Auburn's reputation with the NCAA, their past performance off the field, and the internal strife, it's going to wear on them sooner or later. Because this is the NCAA we're talking about here. And we all know about the NCAA right? <Psst, it's a literary technique known as "foreshadowing"> as TCD would say.....>

But first I need to cover some other territory. First, I was glad to hear that the Notre Dame prez manned up and took responsbility for the death of the the poor student on top of the video tower. I often don't have nice things to say about ND (because they don't deserve it) and I've been proven right but kudos to the prez. Nothing can take the place of a loss of a child for the family but at least the school is not trying to sweep it under the rug. On the football field, not even dumbing down the schedule to play Tulsa could help ND.

Second, I peruse some other message boards of other schools and it can be very entertaining. There's a lot of creativity out there in the Interland. In that vein, I'm wondering if any of the Texas fans have read the Shaggy Bevo thread about the statues of the UT Co-op (book store) parking lot. It's about 10 days old now or so but it HAS to rank as the alltime BEST Internet college football thread. EVER. BAR NONE. My heart goes out to you Texas fans - I would feel the same way you do if I were in your shoes. I had tears running down my face when I read the thread.

Third, over on Tigerdroppings (the LSU board) check out LSUFreek's take on the Auburn situation re: Cam. Freek takes no prisoners, he's an equal opportunity opportunist and it's a classic.

Fourth, congrats to the Gators for the Big Ol' Swizzle Stick overtime win versus Georgia. This team seems to be coming together.

But I sense a disturbance in the Force. Wait for it.....

Spent the weekend in Baton Rouge. OMG! WHAT A GAME!!
Met some very nice Bama people and talked lots of SEC.
Love college football and WDW!

I think your laptop needs to go back for some more repairs, because what you are posting is very close to the IQ level of 70. Go ahead and believe all of the wonderful stories you hear. You can also believe all the crap that is spouted from MSNBC, oops, MSLFT and believe it word for word. It amounts to the same thing. No one has been nasty, rude or insulting until your wonderful laptop was fixed. I still suggest it is broken.

You are right in that there is a disturbance in the force. The dark side is no longer ruling the roost.

All I heard today was scenario after scenario about how bama is going to the SEC championship game. The ways and means to make that happen would make any sane person's head explode. If Auburn loses one or more of it's next two games, I wish LSU the best of luck in the title game. There will be no crimson there, unless you want to go and watch someone else play.

You said that when you are on top, everyone tries to tear you down. Your post proves that to be true on so many levels.:sad2:

And before you throw stones, the UAT crowd does not have such a stellar record with NCAA violations either, so maybe you shouldn't call the pot black, kettle.

Stick you nose up in the air all you want. I hope the air up there is nice and clean.

Since you want to spread rumor and untruth, which is your forte', you will hear in response from me no longer. I bid you farewell.

Y'all play nice.

We're all so passonate about our teams. When I watch another SEC game, I look at the fans in the crowd and think "they love their football team just as much as we love ours". Saturday college football is something many people live and breath by.

I guess the Alabama/Auburn game will be a real big one - alot at stake for both teams.

I play nice until some cat poops in the sandbox, then I have to clean it. Now I will just let it stink up the place while I ignore it.;)

ETA: For those of you who actually care about the truth, here are two videos that are a must see. One is from Cam himself and one is from the press conference today from Coach Chizik. Both of them are worth watching. And also, the FBI is now investigating the agent for additional allegations. Go figure. Here is the link....

Thank you Jen for cleaning the litter box! As for Texas fans we are proud that our team has been in the top 25 for the past 11 years. It is not a good year but we can't always be on top and they will come back. Behind you all the way Longhorns!

I could not agree more. It has been a long time since Texas has had a season like this. Every team goes through it.

I hate what the media has become.

I don't know what to believe about Cam Newton.

But, I have heard way more than I ever want to about this.

Anyway, I have a report to file from the North Carolina v. FSU game from Saturday, November 6.

It was another beautiful day for a football game.

The ACC is promoting sportsmanship this year, so the game began with a handshake between both teams. The entire teams lined up for this. I haven't seen such a thing before:

This was homecoming.

So, band alumni got to play with the real band:

104_9905.jpg

104_9908.jpg

104_9912.jpg

The fly over was provided by a Coast Guard unit from Mobile. They did it right:

104_9920.jpg

Here's Chief Osceola:

104_9936.jpg

Notice the crowd chopping here:

104_9937.jpg

104_9943.jpg

The famous spear plant:

104_9947.jpg

This cheerleader must be a red shirt senior:

104_9953.jpg

(actually I think she was a Cheerleader alumnus)

The game did not start well for FSU.

NC scored a touchdown on its first possession.

That sure quieted the crowd.

But, I heard someone cheer.

And turned to see this lone NC fan surrounded by Noles.

The guy had a pair on him:

104_9958.jpg

Luckily FSU fans are civil. This guy might not have been treated so well elsewhere.

FSU came back and scored on its next possession, and the game stayed close.

Here is Chief O after one of the scores:

104_9965.jpg

104_9967.jpg

Now here's something interesting.

And very hard to believe.

But, I have no other explanation . . .

I think Chief Osceola and Renegade must have ridden down to Fort Wilderness and had lunch at Trail's End before the game.

Because Renegade was having what I believe we call gastric distress.

I never knew that there were designated pooper scoopers at the stadium, but if you look in the shaded portion of the field around the 10 yard line, you will see them in this photo:

104_9972.jpg

To make a long story short, FSU scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to pull ahead.

By one point:

104_9978.jpg

With less than six minutes left in the game.

All the defense had to do was stop NC.

Once.

But, they didn't.

And, NC kicked a field goal with less than a minute left.

FSU was able to make it down the field and get in field goal territory itself.

But, their kicker missed his second field goal of the game.

And the Noles lost.

Bummer.

I missed this game since I was out of town, but was getting updates from my brother.

I DVR'd it and immediately deleted it once I got home Sunday afternoon prior to watching it.

I have seen too many wide rights in my day!

Good thing we hit 6 wins a few weeks ago or we might not be bowling this year.

Nice game report!

Anolefan,

have you or TCD heard anything about Bama and FSU trying to line up a game in 2013? In the papers up here end of last week it said they were both looking at the Chik Filet Season Kickoff game (or whatever they call it). Only problem was the FSU non-conf schedule for 2013 presents some scheduling challenges. You guys have Gators, West Virginia, and Nevada (who I believe is ranked now) already on the 2013.

Bama has done this twice now (I went to the game to start the 2008 season when we played Clemson) and it's a great atmostphere at the Georgia Dome. Tickets are literally split 50-50 from behind one goal post around the the other goal post. Hope we can work it out. I think it would be a great game!

There are learning opportunities here for sure.

Let me say out of the gate that I am a huge Bill O'Reilly fan. DW say's I'm a lot like him (which I hope she means as a compliment). I operate in a no-spin zone, consider myself fair and balanced, and I am "lookin' out for you". Billy-O ROCKS :cool1:

Dark side? Thanks for the peek into the Auburn state-of-mind. Always with the Oliver Stone conspiracy theories. Secretly, Lord Saban has commanded us to begin our infiltration of the International Monetary Fund and NATO. Don't tell anybody....

I personally believe Auburn plays in the SEC Champ Game. No matter who their opponent is (winner of the FL-SC game is it?) there would be story angles galore either way. I'm not always a homer - I think analytically and that's how I see it.

Pot/kettle/black. Gee never heard that one before. Word actually has reached Titletown of our past NCAA dealings so there's no news flash there. And so for anybody familiar with our dealings with them (the "we" I reference) it helps frame what's happening now with the Auburn investigation. When you look at the public statements people are making, some are carefully worded and therefore limited; some leave holes you could drive a truck through.

Rumor and untruth? Aw, you nailed me there. I guess I'll have to quit using material from questionable sources like ESPN, The Birmingham News, The NY Times, and our sleepy local affiliates for Fox/NBC/CBS/ABC. You're right - none of those are reputable.

No more direct responses? Bummer. Is that supposed to be a bad thing?

BTW, the Nicktator called out our offensive line today. (Thought you would like that). Sorry, gots to run off here and get supper on the table.

Bama ED

PS-some good games this weekend. I'll try to get posted on those tomorrow.

There are some good games coming up this weekend. It's interesting that both South Carolina and Florida (squaring off against each other) will play their last conference game this weekend, both I think play cupcakes next week, and then both play their in-state/out-of-conference rivals for the last game of the regular season. Winner of this game represents the SEC-E in the SEC Champ Game. I was ready to pick SC before they lost to Arkansas. And Florida picked off Georgia in overtime a few weeks ago so I'm going with the Gators this weekend mostly because of the home field advantage.

Utah plays at Notre Dame this weekend. What can I say - I hope Notre Dame goes down Saturday afternoon.

Georgia at Auburn - the Camster is a tremendous athlete on the field, I'll give him that. As of this point the Chiz says he is still eligible so if he plays, Auburn wins. Simple as that.

Out in the west, Texas Tech plays Oklahoma. Wingnut/Tubs will try to take his Tech team to Norman but Oklahoma will be too strong. "Dude, it's Stoops!" as the ol' saying goes.

Mississippi State at Bama - early on in this thread I said I expected a good year from State but never dreamed they'd beat Florida (who was having their own issues at the time). I said in a previous post Coach Saban called out the O-line this week by name which hopefully will improve their performance. I'm picking the Tide naturally as the home team but with fingers crossed.

Clemson at FSU - inquiring minds want to know whether TCD will be at Tallahassee or Gainesville (if he's not on the couch at home on Saturday). No clue who should win here but this is a classic match-up of big ACC names. May the best team win.

Oklahoma State at Texas - Texas is having a tough year after playing the National Champ Game last year. I predict Oklahoma State will be victorious.

I'll be slinging french fries and chicken fingers tomorrow working the concession stand for our high school football team. I have two sons in the high school band so that's my job. Then it'll be an early departure Saturday morning to get to Tuscaloosa before the parking (or lack thereof) for tailgating becomes a mob scene. Weather should be good Saturday so let's see what happens.

It was a tough call, but TCD is staying home on Saturday. We were just in Tallahassee for NC v. FSU, and will be returning there in two weeks for UF v. FSU. Can that be true? Boy, this season went by fast!

I am also interested in all the games you reviewed, Bama ED.

Cam Newton is all the rage on the local sports stations around here. I hate it.

I also hate hearing how the odds makers in Vegas stopped taking action on GA v. AU early this week, before the latest round of crap hit the fan. What is that all about? I don't like it! How can all of this not be a huge distraction? And, there are so many allegations, there is not time for Cam and his family to dispute them. And, they shouldn't have to. If rules were broken, then there should be a quick and thorough investigation. These allegations are from months ago-why are they just coming to light now?

As far as SC @ UF goes, I can't make a prediction. If the team that played the last two games (GA and Vandy) shows up, great. But who knows? SC has a lot of talent this year. And the Old Ball Coach surely has a good game plan. A lot is riding on this game for both teams. The winner goes to the SECCG. The loser will be going to a less than desirable bowl game. Or maybe no bowl game at all.

Good luck to everyone this weekend!

TCD

Did you not know that they also took the FSU game down as well? Both games had too many people betting against the normal odds to skew the results. They had to take the initial bets per law, but they did not have to take the additional ones.

oh, and I almost forgot...
