The current tv contract, among many things, allows CBS only one prime-time regular season game I believe. So they chose the Gator-Tide game two weeks ago (a natural choice since these two teams met in the last two SEC Champ games). They are allowed to do that night game as part of a double header (and choose a second SEC game to broadcast that day).
What's more disappointing for me is that CBS passes on the first two weeks or so of the season covering the US Open tennis tournament. I'm sure they stat the ratings and make this choice on an informed basis but it seems odd to me. I like Gary Danielson on CBS but not Verne so much. But, off topic, my favorite broadcast team is Todd Blackledge and Brad Knessler on ESPN. I wish I could do the "Taste Of The Town" segment each week

.
BTW, TCD, I'm watching the FSU-BC game you are at and it's 24-19 FSU with 8 minutes left in the game. Weather looks sunny, warm and beautiful. You need to pull this one out!

Thanks for the explanation about CBS. I didn't know they were limited for prime time. Didn't they pay some huge amount for the SEC rights? And then they can only broadcast one prime-time game? What boneheads!
I agree with you about Verne and Gary. This team covered a lot of Gator games last year, and I think two already this year (and will probably be at the UF v. GA game). Verne is borderline senile. Gary has to correct him several times during each broadcast (and does so very diplomatically). I love the Taste of the Town segment. Last week, Todd covered the UF v. LSU game, and he was shown eating pizza in what looked like an old VW bus. It turns out this pizza joint has been open for a few years, and is a bit removed from campus. I had never heard of it, but apparently, it is a big hangout for the students, and the pizza is supposed to be really good. I will now be looking for the place.
Yes, the weather was fantastic in Tallahassee on Saturday. Probably the nicest weather I have ever watched a football game in in the state of Florida. And, the highest ranked team in Florida was able to pull it out and emerge victorious! I have some photos to share, which I will get to later this week.
South Carolina @ Kentucky........... Darn it all ta Heck!
Only in the SEC!
Good game Auburn! Oh yes who won Texas - Nebraska game? Ohhh I believe while eating popcorn it was Texas!
Good for Texas! Go right into Lincoln and beat their butts. Good job!
My heart and prayers go out to Eric LaGrand and his family and the Rutgers football team. Eric was paralyzed from the neck down on a tackle yesterday. May our prayers help him walk again and show others the inspiration to go on to live and be an example to others in the future.

What a tragedy. I hate to hear stories like this. Poor kid.
Jen, I would never say this for any of my Auburn people up here. Well, cause frankly I just don't like them, in general... But after yesterday, I will say it...
And only for you...
So here goes...
WAR 'CAM' EAGLE.
Good game!!!
Cam Newton for Heisman!
Heck yes!
Of course, two top-five teams did the SEC a favor by losing on Saturday.
And, now Auburn needs to TCB on Saturday.
Either Auburn or LSU will be gone from the top ten by this time next week.
It really isn't fair.
SEC teams beat the heck out of each other every week.
And Boise and TCU (and others) just sit there and benefit. They don't have to worry about game-planning or injuries. They just get to sit around until the end of the season, and maybe luck into the National Championship.
I don't like it.
Not one bit.
Oh yeah, I guess I should mention that I don't think the Gators are very good this year, after all.
