Official 2010 College Football Discussion Thread

Who else is gonna get a big bowl of popcorn and watch the Nebraska-Texas game Saturday afternoon? I liked Nebraska early on in this thread and I think they will roll all the way to the Big 12 Champ game.

Bama plays Ole Miss Saturday night. I'm hoping they got their heads back on and TCB (take care of business). Not TCD :goodvibes.

What games are ya'll going to watch this weekend?

1. Texas @ Nebraska is on at the same time as Arkansas @ Auburn.
I'm watching the SEC game. It will be a good one!

2. TCD always TCB. I expect Bama will too. I will need to catch some of that game so I can see Ole Miss's new mascot.

3. The other games I intend to watch:

BC @ FSU- In person!

SC @ KY- If I can get in to a sports bar in time in Tally.

Miss. St. @ UF- Boy, I hope to see some offense from the Gators.

The first BCS rankings come out this week.

I don't expect that I will like them.

How long has it been since there is not an SEC team in the top 5?

And, unless somebody in the top 5 loses, how will an SEC team break into it?

I don't like where this is heading.

Also, what is up with CBS? Didn't they pay huge money for the rights to broadcast SEC games? But last week and this week, they are not broadcasting an SEC game in prime time?

TCD

I can't say that I am too inclined to be excited to see the Rebel Black Bear. Bears don't dress in Red, White and Blue? Really? Bears are black or brown. That is not hoddy toddy, gosh o mighty, who the hell are we? Ugh, to be politically correct sucks.

I am not at all happy with CBS either and their 3:30 time slot. I am sure they think it is all fine and dandy, however, IMHO, it is not a wonderful start time and causes directional issues with the sun during the 3rd and 4th quarters for the teams. I have seen it happen all to often and been a part of it during my college days. Every time we heard that time slot announced, the groans would start and the carping would go on for the whole week.

I have made my weekly appointment with the cardiologist. I asked if he had a Sunday appointment for the next two weeks. I do believe I am going to need the extra attention, either for resuscitation or just plain rebuilding. I will patiently see which team shows up tomorrow and if our defense decides to play the whole game.

The current tv contract, among many things, allows CBS only one prime-time regular season game I believe. So they chose the Gator-Tide game two weeks ago (a natural choice since these two teams met in the last two SEC Champ games). They are allowed to do that night game as part of a double header (and choose a second SEC game to broadcast that day).

What's more disappointing for me is that CBS passes on the first two weeks or so of the season covering the US Open tennis tournament. I'm sure they stat the ratings and make this choice on an informed basis but it seems odd to me. I like Gary Danielson on CBS but not Verne so much. But, off topic, my favorite broadcast team is Todd Blackledge and Brad Knessler on ESPN. I wish I could do the "Taste Of The Town" segment each week .

BTW, TCD, I'm watching the FSU-BC game you are at and it's 24-19 FSU with 8 minutes left in the game. Weather looks sunny, warm and beautiful. You need to pull this one out!

Aw man, not a good day football at our house! Hogs lose the track meet... no basketball game... no, I think that was football. :confused3
And thank goodness there was a good band outside the sports bar we were at last night... Bucks were down 7-0 before we even took our jackets off and sat down.

Jen, I would never say this for any of my Auburn people up here. Well, cause frankly I just don't like them, in general... But after yesterday, I will say it...
And only for you...
So here goes...

WAR 'CAM' EAGLE. :cheer2:

Good game!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the explanation about CBS. I didn't know they were limited for prime time. Didn't they pay some huge amount for the SEC rights? And then they can only broadcast one prime-time game? What boneheads!

I agree with you about Verne and Gary. This team covered a lot of Gator games last year, and I think two already this year (and will probably be at the UF v. GA game). Verne is borderline senile. Gary has to correct him several times during each broadcast (and does so very diplomatically). I love the Taste of the Town segment. Last week, Todd covered the UF v. LSU game, and he was shown eating pizza in what looked like an old VW bus. It turns out this pizza joint has been open for a few years, and is a bit removed from campus. I had never heard of it, but apparently, it is a big hangout for the students, and the pizza is supposed to be really good. I will now be looking for the place.

Yes, the weather was fantastic in Tallahassee on Saturday. Probably the nicest weather I have ever watched a football game in in the state of Florida. And, the highest ranked team in Florida was able to pull it out and emerge victorious! I have some photos to share, which I will get to later this week.

South Carolina @ Kentucky........... Darn it all ta Heck! :sad2:

Only in the SEC!

Good game Auburn! Oh yes who won Texas - Nebraska game? Ohhh I believe while eating popcorn it was Texas!

Good for Texas! Go right into Lincoln and beat their butts. Good job!

My heart and prayers go out to Eric LaGrand and his family and the Rutgers football team. Eric was paralyzed from the neck down on a tackle yesterday. May our prayers help him walk again and show others the inspiration to go on to live and be an example to others in the future.:grouphug::grouphug:

Heck yes!

Of course, two top-five teams did the SEC a favor by losing on Saturday.

And, now Auburn needs to TCB on Saturday.

Either Auburn or LSU will be gone from the top ten by this time next week.

It really isn't fair.

SEC teams beat the heck out of each other every week.

And Boise and TCU (and others) just sit there and benefit. They don't have to worry about game-planning or injuries. They just get to sit around until the end of the season, and maybe luck into the National Championship.

I don't like it.

Not one bit.

Oh yeah, I guess I should mention that I don't think the Gators are very good this year, after all.

TCD

I hate to say it, but it seems the SEC coaches have forgotten the defensive part of the game. I don't think I ever remember the SEC being so weak in defense. Is there an SEC team that has a defense good enough to win a national championship? Auburn has the offense as long as Cam is healthy, but would they do as good against a team with a good defense? :confused3 I know right now that Alabama doesn't have the offense or defense to compete for a national championship.

I was wondering which game you'd be at.

I briefly considered going to both. But, I'm glad I didn't.

Don't sprain an ankle jumping off that band wagon.

Not me.

I am many things.

But, I am not a fair weather fan.

I will stand by my Gators.

I was a fan when it made our season if we beat FSU.

Or Miami.

Or Georgia.

We were happy if we broke .500

And ecstatic if we went to a bowl game.

Any bowl game.

An SEC championship was just a distant dream when I first became a Gator fan.

A national championship was unimaginable.

The Gators are in a tough stretch.

There's no doubt about that.

And, I am not sure that they are done with the L's for this year.

But, they will be back.

And I am not going anywhere.

Don't hate to say it. It is very blatantly obvious. I do believe that the SEC, as a whole, has had Tebow spread offense envy for a while and has recruited as such. Hence, the wonderful defenses we have grown accustomed to have graduated away to the NFL and we are left with wonderful offenses and suspect defenses. I understand that my alma mater is doing well, however, defenses win games in tough times. I keep making those appointments with the cardio man because of the lack of defense we have. Our boys need to step it up and our coaching staff is asking a tremendous amount from freshman on our defense. We lost two key people on defense last week. One has a broken foot and had surgery today. One is questionable for this coming week. That leaves a thin defense thinner and freshman expected to do more. The cardio man will be on stand by Saturday afternoon as well. LSU is not a passing team by trade, but I guarantee they are looking at passing defense films this week. They would be fools not to.
