I have a few photos to share from the TCD gang's first college football game of the 2010 season.
We were in Tallahassee on September 4, 2010 to attend FSU's season opener against Samford University.
The Seminoles look so much better than the did last year. The team looked good on offense, defense and special teams.
Of course, Samford is a rather small school, so we won't know if the 2010 Noles are for real until they are tested in Oklahoma this week. But, from what I saw, this team seems ready to compete, and perhaps bring glory back to Doak Campbell stadium.
Here are the photos:
Traveling between my house and Tallahassee requires driving through some rather rural areas of Florida. We came across this truck in a place called Old Town:
This is the Unconquered Statue that sits outside the stadium. It features Chief Osceola and Renegade. Chief Osceola's spear is lit before each game:
We got ourselves one of those radios to listen to the live radio feed inside the stadium. Here are the instructions. Make sure you read the third bullet point:
I don't know if this goes on before other football games, but at FSU and UF games, there is often a fly over by military aircraft. For this game, the flyover was a group of Super Stallion helicopters from Ft. Lejeune:
Reports early last week suggested that the game would be far from a sell-out. There were a lot of empty seats in the stadium, but the crowd ended up being bigger than I thought:
Note that Bobby Bowden may no longer by the Seminole's coach, but the field that they play on still bears his name.
We saw FSU score five touchdowns in the second quarter. Five! Wow!
Here's a punt return for a touchdown from Greg Reid:
This kid seems like quite the football player.
Here is the crowd reacting to this touchdown:
I have to say that FSU's Chief Osceola and Renegade are the coolest mascots anywhere in college football. Poor Renegade had quite the workout on Saturday:
And so did the guys that run around with the flags:
As you can see here, the score was 42-0 FSU with 2 minutes plus left in the second quarter:
Poor Samford was able to kick a field goal in the final seconds of the second quarter, so they had three points on the board to start the second half.
FSU rested its starters in the second half, and came away with a convincing win.
We are already looking forward to our next game.
