Official 2010 College Football Discussion Thread

And, yes, I will be in Tallahassee several Saturdays this Fall. I plan on being at the opening game. It will be interesting to see how FSU performs this year with Bobby gone. I think they will do well. We shall see.

War Damn Ron Zook!

I am a life time Nole fan, but I must say I am torn in between wanting my Noles to do well, as I have always wished for them, and wanting them to do poorly because of how they forced Bobby out. In the end, I know of course I will be rooting them on, but part of me still wants to see Jimbo fall on his face. :confused3

I am cautiously optimistic about the upcoming year. Living through the past 10 years has been very tough on the Noles. I think Ponder is the real deal and the offensive line should have a good year. Defense is and has been the question mark over the past several years and will probably take Stoops a few years to recruit and develop the talent needed. A couple of injuries and stupid decisions have already hurt the depth chart, but should be able to overcome those (Fortson being the biggest loss and am glad he is gone). I think the OU game will give us a good idea how this team will perform this year.

While I'm not overly confident we will have a great season, I LOVE college football and can't wait to Tee that Tater Up!

GO NOLES!

You know it is so sad, for so many years FSU had the defense to beat, but the last few years that has gone by the wayside. I am hoping this year will be the turn around, but we will see.

So true. The 90's was a great time for watching FSU Football. Man those defensive teams were impressive, hard hitting and fast. I really think Stoops will turn it around and am really looking forward the zone defense this year. I think it could be the key to reducing the big plays that it has given lately.

And off the Noles for a minute, I am OVER the Boise Sate hype. Hopefully the love affair will end this upcoming Monday! ESPN loves these guys.

At first I felt bad for old Bobby, but the more this guy runs his mouth about how he was done wrong, the less respect I have for him. Yes, Bobby built the FSU program, but the last five plus years have been awful. When is enough enough? He should have had the class to leave, but I think his ego got in the way. It put the school in a difficult position, and I think they made the right choice.

That said, it is sad to see what has happened with fan support in Tallahassee. The "new" coach is making his debut on Saturday, and it looks like the stadium will only by 3/4 full if they are lucky.

Now here's something that I think we all can agree on. Please, please. please Va Tech, put a whoopin' on these turkeys so they will go away. If not Alabama or Florida will have the easiest BCS Championship game in history.

I have failed to get involved with this topic because it has the potential to become very heated, but I too am sick of hearing BB all over the media. I'm not as frustrated at Bowden for speaking his mind, but rather that the media acts like this is a shocking new revelation. Are all of the media outlets really surprised that he was "forced out". This was pretty much common knowledge when it all went down last year and now everyone wants to drag it out. This will continue all season and it will take away from some of the positives that Fisher will be able to achieve this year.

I love BB and have followed FSU for 30 years. He is all I have known when it comes to FSU football. Could it have been handled differently? Probably. Should it have been handled differently? I don't know. It is what it is and it's done. FSU fans it is time to move on and support the future of the program, which I think will be strong under Fisher.

Off my soapbox and Go Noles!

I agree with you TCD. Everyone knew how Bobby's career ended and if he'd let it go he could have stayed above it all and made FSU look like the wrongful party. Anyone who paid attention knows he wasn't involved in the game play calling the last few years but I would have liked to have seen him stay above the fray. He would have made it up there.

I also am hoping for Va Tech to come through this weekend.

As in "Heisman Trophy Winner Mark Ingram" had his knee scoped today and will definintely miss the season opener Saturday against San Jose State and will be week-to-week after that. May miss the Penn State game after that. Trent Richardson, though, is a great replacement so we should be okay.

The video that runs in the stadium before gametime has been updated for 2010. It shows a mix of historical clips and recent stuff. I mean, when you've won 13 National Champs and the SEC Champ once every decade you do have some clips to feature. As you would expect it's gotten longer with so much good stuff to see-up to 4 minutes long now. Naturally it's called "The Tradition". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLA7FsHc0Zs

To my University of Auburn friends out there I'll have you know that I am trying to get my son (a high school senior) to consider Auburn for his academic career as well as UAB and UA (which seem to be his current faves right now). Regardless of the gift that keeps on giving called the Auburn Athletic Program, he needs to look out for himself academically. So if Auburn should offer an outstanding program in his potential field of study I'm urging him to consider it. I mean, Alabama may be Crimson and White, Auburn may be Orange and Blue, but the color green (read "scholarship dollars") gets my attention.

Kick is in two days!

Love it love it love it!!! The air was a little crisper this morning. The evenings are getting cooler. It's football season!

I love watching all of the games, and the 11th is going to make for some great football viewing while tailgating. Hope all you teams are the ones to beat, but I have to throw this in...Go Red Raiders!

Well, hopefully Ed, the scholarship dollars will also educate you in the correct naming of our beloved university as well. ;) Best of luck to your son in his choice of study in the coming year. A paid education is so well worth the effort and the relief of burden of student loans when you go out into the working world.

Well....I know this team isn't in the same class as the BIG BOYS, but I am waiting with bated breath to see how Skip Holtz is going to do with the USF Bulls this year. They open against Stony Brook - which was one of the colleges that was on my target to attend back in the day. So, is it Go Bulls or Go Seawolves? Decisions, decisions.

Bobby Bowden's retirement was overdue, and I wished he'd shown a little more class, quietly stepping aside. His ego wouldn't allow it. The verdict is still out on Jim Leavitt IMHO. I'm not sure he got a fair shake. Everyone knows that kids need a good byotch slapping every now and again!! :rotfl2:

 Football!! My husband was given to tickets (50 yard line 20 row up :scared1:) for the Alabama Florida game....it will be an AMAZING game!!! So 4 days before we leave for disney he is driving to bama (about 10 hours) then coming back just to turn around 3 days later and drive the 11 hours to Disney!!!! It better be a good game :rotfl:

Well, that stinks! I feel bad for MI. Hopefully, he will only miss one game, and will be back up and playing. While I did not like the fact that he took away Timmy's Heisman last year, the kid seems to be a solid and respectful young man, and I would like to see him perform at his best this season. If there is anything good about this, at least it happened early in the season.

Welcome.

I wish we had some of that crisper air here in Florida.

Maybe around November or so?

Yeah!!! We were able to actually sit outside in our backyard this evening!!

Last summer, we had a new deck built, a place to set the TV outside and a completely new landscaped yard put in, and cause of the darn heat, we haven't enjoyed it like we wanted to. Can't wait to watch the fall classic (BASEBALL) and some great football out there finally!!!

Lucky!

It is still hot and muggy in Florida.

And, I will be attending a noon game in Tallahassee on Saturday.

I am interested in seeing what Skip Holtz is able to do with USF as well. Unfortunately for him, he must travel to Gainesville for his second game. I wonder what wisdom Dr. Lou is going to have for him for this game?

I hope Stoop can turn it around as well!! If your defense sucks, winning is a complete uphill battle!

As someone who has lived her whole life in Tallahassee I can tell you we have a much different view of Bobby here than most. He not only made FSU football what it is today, but he contributed a lot to the lives of all of his players and the town itself. I understand the last few years the team has not done as well, but the powers that be could have handled the situation a whole lot better. (i.e. - telling him one year he could stay as long as he wants and the next forcing him to retire) But when you are a legend such as Bobby is to FSU football and Tallahassee, I think he deserved a lot better treatment then what he got. That being said, I can understand how a lot of folks can think he should have handled things differently himself. (I just don't agree ;) )

As it is, I know I will be rooting my Noles on come Saturday and I am quite sure I will cheer just as loud as I always have! :thumbsup2

Have to put my official Georgia Dawgs hat on this year! Heading over to Sanford Stadium on Saturday to watch my boy in the Redcoat Band.

Also, looking forward to what the Bulls do this year. I agree with Debbie (not sure Jim Leavitt got a fair shake).

OH!! The game will be AMAZING I am SOOOOOO sad I cant go :sad2: the guy who got him the ticket offered to get one for me too....but we couldn't find anyone to watch the kids :sad1: so tailgating and and awesome football game will pass me buy.....BUT BRING ON THE EVERY WEEKEND FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR!!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: I  football!!!

I'm thinking Lou will not offer any advice unless asked. Skip had a terrific role model when growing up, and if he was paying attention even 1/4 of the time, he'll be fine. He's also had a varied coaching background with some pretty big time college football programs. We'll see how well he does as head coach. I'm hoping for the best. :thumbsup2

It's finally here....College Football Kicks Off Thursday Night September 2.
Towson Plays at Indiana. After that Indiana goes to WKU....
