Official 2010 College Football Discussion Thread

I'll be watching the game Saturday with my hands over my face, peeking through my fingers. It's really the only way to watch the Razorbacks... ;)

Ah c'mon. Give your team some credit. I think Georgia loses again on Saturday, and Mark Richt will be in serious doo-doo.

My other picks for the SEC games of interest:

Florida @ Tennessee: Florida-convincingly
Clemson @ Auburn: Auburn- convincingly
Alabama @ Duke: Bama- duh
Miss. State @ LSU: I think Miss. State pulls an upset here.
Vanderbilt @ Mississippi: Mississippi

ACC games of interest:

BYU @ FSU: FSU
Wake Forest @ Stanford: I'd like to see WF win this- but I haven't seen either team play this year, so I don't know.

Looking forward to this week's games!

I'll give them some credit when they start picking it up a little. It's just so frustrating because anytime they start doing well, it's like they TRY to find some way to mess it up. Even the 06 season (I think, right?) they almost didn't make it to the SEC champ game after a great season!

I live in an SEC/Big Ten house - so DH is looking forward to the Mich St/ND game. I'm supposed to root for Mich St. We always root for Big 10 and whoever's playing Michigan. :rotfl2: SEC gets a little trickier since my "roots" are really with the SWC. I will be pulling for Clemson, simply because it's an SC team and one of my babysitters goes there. Also, will be praying that no Duke players are maimed or otherwise disfigured. :rolleyes1

I'm with you on the Miss St upset - that would be cool! :thumbsup2

Amen to that, Kaguilbeau, the LSU defense really came through Sat. night!!
The first home game of the season was awesome and things were rocking in Baton Rouge! We really enjoyed watching the Auburn game that day and just hope they run out of luck by the time LSU makes the trip on Oct.23. It's really tough to win there.
One more thing ,TCD, it was still H O T in B.R. at game time. We were lucky though that our game was a night game. Those are the best, and we do not care very much for afternoon games at any time of the year.

Love college football and WDW!

Boy you missed that one!!! Saturday was another messy one!! But once again a W is a W. BUT we're gonna havta have some convincing wins to get up in the standings!!!

Amen sister, Amen. I lost too many heartbeats Saturday night.

It was a great football weekend - very exciting! I about had a stroke in the 4th quarter watching my Hogs - good grief! Thank goodness they pulled it out. Normally, that's the kind of game they would lose. So, I'm proud they came back and took what was theirs. :cheer2:

Got Bama next week - they're gonna have to really do better to keep up with them...

Yes, that wasn't too convincing. But neither was the Gators win. A nice come from behind victory for Auburn is a great accomplishment early in the season. The Gators have played well from the end of the third quarter on in there last two games. Now, if they can just get things going a bit earlier . . .

If the Gators don't get things fixed this week, it's going to be a bloodbath on the first Saturday night in October in Tuscaloosa.

I was also wrong about Miss. St. and Vandy.

I am very much looking forward to Auburn v. SC and Alabama v. Arkansas this week.

Week three of the 2010 college football season found the TCD gang back in Tallahassee to watch the Florida State Seminoles take on the visiting BYU Cougars.

Kick-off for this game was set for 3:30.

Thank goodness. Noon and 12:30 kick-offs ought to be outlawed in the State of Florida for the month of September. We have already sat through two very, very hot games.

Saturday, September 18 also started out as a hot one. But, the humidity in Tallahassee was finally a bit lower, and even though it was over 90 degrees, there was a bit of a breeze, and no rain forecast. It was a good day for football.

The other good thing about a 3:30 kick off is that it allows time for tailgating.

And taking in some of the pre-game festivities outside the stadium.

For this game, Tallahassee was visited by this crew:

Foootball03.jpg

They were promoting a new Wheat Thins snack product.

What Wheat Thins had to do with guys in yellow on stilts, I can’t tell you.

But, it did make a good photo op:

Foootball004-1.jpg

On our visit to Tallahassee two weeks ago, we missed kick-off because there was a big back log of folks trying to get into the stadium about a half hour before kick-off. So, for this game, we decided to get in earlier.

Our early entry gave us a chance to see the team warming up:

Foootball028.jpg

And the band:

Foootball029.jpg

We got to sing the National Anthem:

Foootball030.jpg

Which was followed by a fly-over by a C-130 from a base in Georgia:

Foootball031.jpg

Foootball032.jpg

I’m not sure what was going on with this plane’s crew. Usually, the aircraft fly a lot lower for the pre-game flyovers. These guys practically looked like they were just passing by to an airport to the south.

The band then played on, and we got to see all of the pre-game hoopla:

You can say what you want to about FSU’s football program. But, you can’t deny that their pre-game festivities are among the best in college football. Chief Osceola and Renegade are cool.

Speaking of the chief, here he is celebrating one of FSU’s scores:

Foootball039.jpg

There was a good crowd in the East and West stands, as well as the North End Zone:

Foootball037.jpg

But, the fans in the South End Zone were a bit sparse:

Foootball038.jpg

At half-time, they announced that FSU has won an award because every sports team at FSU had advanced to the post-season in 2009. They introduced all of the athletes from the various teams:

Foootball040.jpg

The band came back out:

Foootball041.jpg

And, these majorettes twirled flaming batons in the end zone. They did a pretty good job. But, I have seen a more impressive display of flaming sticks of death at the FW campfire:

Foootball042.jpg

The band did a tribute to the American military:

Foootball043.jpg

And, then it was time for the second half.

As the second half began, I noticed that the cheerleaders who had been in front of our seats moved on to another part of the stadium. In their place, we had these young ladies:

Foootball044.jpg

Foootball045.jpg

Foootball046.jpg

This must have been a group of freshman girls. They must have all done their own laundry for the first time, because look how bad their uniforms shrunk. And, the cafeteria food must not be appealing to them, because they are all looking a bit scrawny. Poor things. Somebody needs to get those girls some decent clothes. And a sandwich.

Anyway, FSU played a good game. And kicked some BYU bootie.

The fans were happy:

Foootball047.jpg

The final score was FSU 34 BYU 10.

Foootball050.jpg

We left the stadium as the sun sunk lower in the sky:

Foootball001-1.jpg

As we walked out, I also heard that the Gators had defeated Tennessee in their game in Knoxville. So it was all good for the TCD gang.

Another fun day of college football!

Next up- week 4.

Both UF and FSU have home games.

What to do?

C'mon, TCD. You've been to Tallahassee so many times I'm beginning to wonder where your loyalties really lie. If you don't visit Gainesville next week, we will need to schedule an intervention.

Good point.

Also, all this football is keeping me away from the Fort!

When they announced the kick-off for UF v. KY, which is a night game, I was hoping that maybe the FSU v. WF game would be a noon game. Then I would go to both! I'd love to do that one day. Mrs. TCD tells me that back in the day (I'm talking way back), it was mandated that UF would always play during the day, and FSU at night, so folks could attend both. Her grandfather had a Bluebird RV (we are talking late 60's early 70's) and he would regularly go to two football games on a Saturday. Like me, he was a Gator, and his wife and daughters were 'Noles.

Wow, TCD great pictures.

Jen, your hero Pat Dye has been in the newspapers again and not in a good way. Seems he gave a speech in Montgomery last week where his version of the Chizik hiring (and his involvement) conflicted with his version recorded for posterity back when Chizik was hired. Poor Pat - they need to get him out of the publicity department....

TCD, to answer your question on a previous post, yes - I will be at the Florida game. I've been going to Bama home games every year for 32 years but one (first year out of college when I lived in Jupiter, FL). As a teenager I sold programs (earned a little money, got in to see the game after kickoff for free). Saw the National Champ teams of 78 and 79. Then college years and season tickets ever since. Plus the National Champ teams of 92 and 09. So I've seen both the highs and the lows over the last third of a century. I'm enjoying the ride while it lasts. BTW the Saban statue should be in place soon.

I caught the tail end of the Mich State-Notre Dame game on replay Sunday and man that was a gutsy call on the fake field goal in OT. As a Bama fan it was a pleasure to see Notre Dame lose no matter what the circumstances.

Mark Richt can save his season now by beating Florida. Or else the heat will get to him. I mean, we've seen this movie before: Fulmer, Tubs, Bowden, etc. A coach stays too long and drifts into mediocre seasons against high expectations. How long will Georgia fans be happy to pay millions of dollars to the head coach and finish third in the SEC East? Has anyone called Will Muschamp yet?

Olivia, I meant what I said a few weeks ago about your Volunteers, specifically your athletic director. I know it's a basketball item but the Bruce Pearl fiasco was sad. Pearl should have been fired. And since the basketball program is dirty and the football programs sounding like it was dirty too under Kiffen, multiple programs in trouble means "Lack of Institutional Control". And that should fall in the lap of the AD.

Bama didn't try to run up the score against Duke, honestly. But this week the Arkansas game should be interesting. You have the defensively minded Saban against the offensively minded Petrino. Bama's defense hasn't had many sacks yet and few starters from last year's team. I believe the offense will come through for Bama but this will be a relatively higher scoring game. Mallet is great in the pocket but if he has to move then he's in trouble more often than not.

Having three teenagers at home keeps me busy so I can't post as often as I would like but I enjoy this thread.

Roll Tide Roll!

TCD....thanks for those photos of the Marching Chiefs, I really enjoyed going to the games when my oldest DS was in the band. FSU really does put on the one of the best pre-game shows in college football.

Have you ever watched the band's entrance into the stadium? They have a skull session at the baseball stadium about 2 hours before game time and then march from the baseball stadium into Doak, their entrance onto the field is a sight to see too.

I really need to get to one of the games if I ever have time.

Great thread!! I love college football. Although it sure seems like this discussion is leaning heavily on those southern schools...Just want to add 2 cents about my favorite team. As you might deduce from my username, I am a Michigan State Spartan fan and alumni. I'm assuming everyone has seen the replay by now, how gutsy is the fake field goal call in overtime to win over ND. Probably one of the greatest plays that I can ever remember. Unfortunately we'll be without our coach for a few weeks, although they are talking about him coming back in some fashion by Oct 2. Seems kind of quick for recovery from a heart attack....And like some of the other comments around her, I'd be happy to see the Sweater vest get beat a couple of times. I'd also love to see Michigan (UM) go for a tumble as well...Oh well, have a great weekend and enjoy the games. GO GREEN!!!

Funny, only the crimson and white peoples reported that story. obsession noted and recorded...:teacher:

Mr. Dye proved long ago that his obsession with the bottle has pickled what little cognitive ability he has left. Please leave him alone in his retirement. We ignore him, why don't you? As you can see, there is no hero worship here. We have more pity than anything else for the man. His time has passed. If only the crimson and white fans could say that about the dead associated with their school.:lmao:

I have heard about the skull session, but I have never seen it. I ought to take a look next time. Also, I have been meaning to visit the sod cemetery. I have never seen that either. I'll work on that.

Welcome Spartan fan!

That was a very bold call your coach made on the fake field goal. I hope he is alright and gets back with the team soon. Y'all have some tough games coming up.

Yes, it does seem that those posting here are predominantly fans of schools from the South. Mostly SEC schools.

But, is that any wonder?

There have been 11 BCS Championship Games since the BCS system began in 1998. SEC schools have played in 6 of the BCS Championship Games. Do you want to know what the SEC's record is? Six and O! In contrast, the Big Ten has sent the same team three times (Ohio State), and Ohio State has won only once. The second-place conference is the Big 12, with 7 appearances, but only 2 wins. The two winners from the Big 12 are Texas and Oklahoma. Of the 11 Championships, only Ohio State is located north of the Mason-Dixon line. So, yes, it makes sense that there would be more college football fans in the south.

OK, enough chit-chat.

Let's talk about this weekend's games.

Miami looked great last night.

Total domination.

The games I am interested in this weekend:

-Va. Tech @ B.C.- I am rooting for B.C., but I think Va. Tech takes this one.

-'Bama @ Arkansas- Boy, I don't know. I haven't seen much of either team yet. Sorry Arkansas fans, but I'm pulling for 'Bama here. I'd like them to be undefeated when the Gators beat them (either next week or in the SEC Chompionship is fine with me, if not both).

-Wake @ FSU- I have seen enough of FSU so far this season to say they win this one easily.

-KY @ UF- I am looking for UF to loosen up on offense, and I expect them to win by at least two touchdowns.

-GA @ Miss. St.- Georgia is stinking up the place so far this year. I'd like to see Miss. St. win this one.

-SC @ Auburn- This is going to be a good game. I am shouting out a big War Eagle on this one. UF benefits if SC gets a loss here, so that is what I am hoping for. I am looking forward to seeing Chizik v. Spurrier and Newton v. Garcia.

-Oregon State v. Boise- OY! This crappy game is already being over-hyped (Did anyone see Dr. Lou last night?)- I hope I don't accidentally channel surf into this game. Dear Boise please go away. Now. I really, really, would love to see Boise lose this one. But, I'm afraid they won't.

-WV @ LSU- I have to go with the SEC here. Geaux Tigers!

Boy, that's a lot of football this weekend!

But next week looks even better!

Nah, not over-hyped at all.

Let's see, we have...

-Alabama at Arkansas

-USC at Auburn

-WVU at LSU

and probably a few more games that, at least to me, are going to be much more appealing and guess where Gameday will be set up?

You guessed it, Boise State.

I hate the smurf turf. I think OSU may beat them this week.
