Week three of the 2010 college football season found the TCD gang back in Tallahassee to watch the Florida State Seminoles take on the visiting BYU Cougars.
Kick-off for this game was set for 3:30.
Thank goodness. Noon and 12:30 kick-offs ought to be outlawed in the State of Florida for the month of September. We have already sat through two very, very hot games.
Saturday, September 18 also started out as a hot one. But, the humidity in Tallahassee was finally a bit lower, and even though it was over 90 degrees, there was a bit of a breeze, and no rain forecast. It was a good day for football.
The other good thing about a 3:30 kick off is that it allows time for tailgating.
And taking in some of the pre-game festivities outside the stadium.
For this game, Tallahassee was visited by this crew:
They were promoting a new Wheat Thins snack product.
What Wheat Thins had to do with guys in yellow on stilts, I can’t tell you.
But, it did make a good photo op:
On our visit to Tallahassee two weeks ago, we missed kick-off because there was a big back log of folks trying to get into the stadium about a half hour before kick-off. So, for this game, we decided to get in earlier.
Our early entry gave us a chance to see the team warming up:
And the band:
We got to sing the National Anthem:
Which was followed by a fly-over by a C-130 from a base in Georgia:
I’m not sure what was going on with this plane’s crew. Usually, the aircraft fly a lot lower for the pre-game flyovers. These guys practically looked like they were just passing by to an airport to the south.
The band then played on, and we got to see all of the pre-game hoopla:
You can say what you want to about FSU’s football program. But, you can’t deny that their pre-game festivities are among the best in college football. Chief Osceola and Renegade are cool.
Speaking of the chief, here he is celebrating one of FSU’s scores:
There was a good crowd in the East and West stands, as well as the North End Zone:
But, the fans in the South End Zone were a bit sparse:
At half-time, they announced that FSU has won an award because every sports team at FSU had advanced to the post-season in 2009. They introduced all of the athletes from the various teams:
The band came back out:
And, these majorettes twirled flaming batons in the end zone. They did a pretty good job. But, I have seen a more impressive display of flaming sticks of death at the FW campfire:
The band did a tribute to the American military:
And, then it was time for the second half.
As the second half began, I noticed that the cheerleaders who had been in front of our seats moved on to another part of the stadium. In their place, we had these young ladies:
This must have been a group of freshman girls. They must have all done their own laundry for the first time, because look how bad their uniforms shrunk. And, the cafeteria food must not be appealing to them, because they are all looking a bit scrawny. Poor things. Somebody needs to get those girls some decent clothes. And a sandwich.
Anyway, FSU played a good game. And kicked some BYU bootie.
The fans were happy:
The final score was FSU 34 BYU 10.
We left the stadium as the sun sunk lower in the sky:
As we walked out, I also heard that the Gators had defeated Tennessee in their game in Knoxville. So it was all good for the TCD gang.
Another fun day of college football!
Next up- week 4.
Both UF and FSU have home games.
What to do?
