Offical free dining watch 2008

That is not going to happen.

The UK restriction on values for Free Dining was apparently not a Disney decision, but the UK travel industry - or so I've read.

I can't think of any occasion where Disney eliminated an entire resort category on a promotion - selected resorts or room types yes, but not a whole category.

And the UK being limited to non values means that they didn't take any rooms, Bounceback is ONLY for September, and ONLY bouncebackers.

There's no way that the values are so booked that Disney will restrict them from this Public Free Dining.

I hvae NO expereince in the travel industry so am wondering how and why teh UK could/would prevent Disney from making an offer.. this is very interesting to me.. :upsidedow

Can UK resident not pick up the phone and call disney to book Like I can?

:goodvibes

Thanks for keeping us "in the loop"...would like to plan an additional long weekend in September, before our regular "WEEK AT DISNEY FOR CHRISTMAS"!:santa: :santa:

We have a split ressie 4 nights @ AKV (Aug.23-27) and 3 nights @ BC (Aug.27-30). We've booked DDP for both. If free dining is offered think of all we'll save!!! :)

Will someone please keep me informed on the free dining? Since I'm on spring break this week I've been checking the boards everyday, but next week when I'm back in school I don't know how much I'll get to check. I've saved for nearly 2 years to take my family on our vacation in September & I even "banked" my sick days so I could take a week off of school to go when it was cheaper (if you can't tell I'm a teacher & we do not get a fall break like most schools in the US). I would appreciate any information anyone can provide!!! If I can get the free dining then that's just that much more money I can save for next year's trip (hopefully).

If you have a Disney Visa card do you go to the rewards website or the Chase website to check on the free dining offer? Once you get to the website, what do you type in or look for?

I would just check here on the Codes and Rates board every couple of days. Once it comes out it will be ALL OVER the DIS. The current rumor appears to be April 10th, so I would check every day that week.

Don't worry if you don't hear about it the VERY FIRST DAY. The entire place won't sell out in the first week and neither will a whole class of resort. You'll be fine. Here's my story: I booked free dining at POP two years ago and then a week later my in-laws decided to join us so I tried to add another room to POP and there were none! I had to call back every day for about 3-4 days and finally a room came available. If you don't get your preferred resort, the book your best remaining choice and call back to get your first choice. Even if you don't end up with exactly what you want, you'll be at Walt Disney World .

I was wondering how many of you have already booked your rooms or if you are waiting for the offer to come out before doing it.

I booked bounce back this year so i cant say for this year, but last year i waited till the offer came out. there really isn't any advantage of booking before the code. You would have to cancel your first ressie anyway to book with a code. Only book before if you are going to go even if there is no free dinnig.

been announced by now? I mean april 10th is 3 weeks away. I'm sitting on my deposit, waiting, but wanting to make my reservation now! In the past from what I have read it's been announced waaay before the 3 week mark. Ugh, you never believe how many times i've been checking the boards!

Last year it came out the beginning of april for disney visa and then April 12th for the general public

Ashlander, I booked before the code came out so I could make my ADR's at the 180 day mark. I think the day to make my ressies was in March. I added two days to our trip once the free dining came out and it was hard to get some places.

Can I still add FDDP if I've booked a room only reservation? Does anyone know the code to AP DDP (for purchase) the CM I just booked with couldn't find it and asked me if I knew it???

Okay, even though I posted the info, I'm not quite sure how that worked myself. I only remember reading something about that - and I actually thought it was here on the DIS boards, but I can't seem to find the thread with that info. It was in one of the Free Dining threads.

However, going by memory, this is what I think were the reasons - but someone correct me if any of this is wrong.

First, it seemed as though the initial UK Free Dining offer was heavily promoted in the UK through a couple of their major travel companies - Virgin being the biggest player. So, was there some discussion between Disney and these companies to determine dates and details prior to the offer? It's possible.

Second, the UK offer is considerably longer in duration that either the bounceback or what many think will be offered to the public. Was there some consideration that to get a longer booking window, the resorts were restricted? Again, from what I read, no one can be certain that this was a factor, but it was offered as a possibility.

Third, UK packages differ from those in North America to begin with. For example, their tickets are priced differently. Check out mousesavers for info on the 5, 7, 14 and 21 Day Premium Tickets. They appear similar to our Base + Hopper, Waterparks and More passes, but apparently at a better price.

Fourth, considering the cost for visitors to come to Disney from the UK (airfare being considerably more expensive) the total hit to a package price due to requiring at least a moderate resort won't look as large in comparison. For example, look at Disney's rack rate "Affordable" ads - 6 nights at a Value from $1,600, 6 nights at a Moderate from $2,000. That's a 25% increase.

On the other hand, I went to the UK Disney site and booked a rack rate vacation for the Free Dining period - for a 7 night, 7 day premium ticket package (no dining added here, since it would have been included), I used the same family type quoted by Disney for their $1,600 ad - 2 adults, 1 junior, 1 child. For the UK, this is roughly £3,050 for a value and £3,430 for a moderate. At current exchange rates, that is roughly equivalent to $6,050 USD for the Value and $6,805 USD for the moderate - which is roughly only a 13% increase in the price.

So, the room rate is really only a small portion of the cost for visitors from the UK. Granted, many visitors from North America have to fly to Disney too, but for those who don't, the 25% price difference is really noticable.

Fifth, and finally, since Disney limited the Bounceback to only September (basically) and gave the UK a longer booking window but excluded the Values, did they do so to keep the Value rooms open for possible 2008 late summer to fall value season promotions?

Anyway, most of the fears regarding a Public Free Dining for 2008 are slowly being eliminated.

First, there were all the statements that it wouldn't happen at all - now it pretty much appears to be a go.

Then, (and this has been going on for a while), fears that it would only be for the same dates as Bounceback. While this hasn't been resolved, there are some compelling reasons to think that at least the last week of August will be included, such as the total lack of ANY Public Discounts for that time period - which is still one of the slowest weeks at Disney.

Now, even though many are accepting that August dates are a good possibility, we have rumours that Values will be excluded, just like it was for the UK. Sure, it's possible - but there are a number of very good reasons why that won't happen.

Let's reamain hopeful... and...

Please, STOP POOPING ON THE RICE KRISPIES!

Last year it wasn't officially announced until April last year. The dates were rumored on these boards starting on 3/21/07.

Hey where are you from. I am originally from Floyd Co. but now I am in Scott County and it is hard. Everyone here knows I am the disney woman. I come to school early and pull dis up on the computer, have my cell phone ready and everyone knows i will be there as soon as I book. You could ask another teacher to cover or get an aid to help out that morning. Trust me everyone will help out. Come on you can do it.:thumbsup2

Don't you PEE in Rice Krispies and POOP in a sandbox?

Probably. But I'm known for mixing up my cliches.

I WANTED to say, stop (bleeping) in the Corn Flakes - which I think is the the standard phrase, but I was pretty sure it wouldn't pass the bad word filter.

Oh, do you mean because you can book up to 10 days past the 180 day mark if you have a reservation? Because I booked all of my Adr's and I don't have a reservation anywhere yet. But I'm hoping I will soon............:goodvibes
