Offical American Idol Discussion Thread

and that is way more than votes for President, he said something to the effect that America can get that wrong too.

Well, I hate to tell him, but there is no "wrong" when it comes to people's opinions!!! I, for one, think Diana is the best singer and deserves to win the title.

All those little "malfunctions" affecting her performance certainly make one wonder, doesn't it? The show trying to stack the odds in Fantasia's favor, perhaps?? ;)

Well, I voted for Fantasia. I threw out Fantasia's first song & Diana's last & felt Fantasia was better on her remaining 2 than Diana. I think the vote is going to be close & I won't be upset if Diana wins. I kind of hope she does as I think she needs this competition way more than Fantasia. If she comes in 2nd, I don't think the release of her album will be a big deal (kind of like Justin Guarini, NOTHING like Clay Aiken). Oh well, I'm probably in the minority, but I enjoyed this season & even though my favorite (Latoya) didn't even make the top 3, hers will probably be the only album I will buy when it comes out. BTW, did you guys hear the crowd go crazy when they showed Latoya on the screen during the montage????

By contrast, Diana has this squeaky clean prom queen facade that I think people are buying into without realizing she is NOT the better singer of the two.

Not that I'm representative of everyone, but Fantasia having a kid means nothing to me. I just don't like her voice. That's why I didn't vote for her.

Honestly, I'm not a huge Diana fan, either. I didn't even try to vote last night. These two aren't near the competition that Clay and Ruben was!

I don't hear Macy Gray when I hear Fantasia sing. I think they are both different. I don't like Macy's way of singing at all but I love Fantasia's.

Me too!

I wish they had sung other songs besides those from the other shows.

Same here!

I didn't get to vote for either last night due to major storms here but I am not so eager to vote this year anyhow. In a lot of ways I would like to see this be the last year of AI although I'm sure they'll run the show right into the ground.

I am another that will not buy either cd's when released. I loved Kelly Clarkson's and Clay's cds...that's it. I think winning this doesn't mean anything really. Even if Fantasia comes in second to Diana, Fantasia has been pretty much guaranteed a record deal.

Out of the two I would rather see Diana win. Fantasia does sound a lot like Macy Gray and her "enthusiasum" is getting old with me. How many times do I need to see her bouncing around on stage without proper "support" and then going in the audience and putting her butt in the judges faces! I think Fantasia just screams her notes at times too. I cannot see where the judges can compare her to all the greats like they always do. No way is Fantasia's singing in the same league!!

Now if the judges could just curb their bias!

I think this will be the last year I watch.

to quote Fantasia..... ya, ya,,, yaaaaa.. ya....

Diana did not have a good night last night... the sound seemed off.. she seemed off too. I can see her doing Pepsi commercials!
Good for her! She has shown growth and strength during the entire season.

Fantasia... I think this woman sang her heart out last night..
Her version of Summertime is wonderful... but I don't consider it
a song that would be played on the radio/pop stations.. know what I mean? I am not a Fantasia fan at all.. but I think she our performed Diana in AI Finale... Maybe when she gets a record deal someone will inform her that not all songs need a YA.. YA weaved into it.....

Anybody else think Simon was way out of line when he said..
Fantasia, you are the best ever on AI~~~????

Oh well, hopefully next season will go better.. maybe AI will change the voting situation.

Out of respect for the conspiracy theorists that seem to be taking over this thread, I just wanted to point out that I will be typing this while wearing a tin foil hat to block out the mind-control rays that Fox is sending out, telling people to favor Fantasia over Diana

My little critique of last night:

Diana 1 - Absolutely nailed it, with just a VERY minor bobble. My quote after hearing her was "Fantasia better be on her game"

Fantasia 1 - Ick....HORRIBLE song choice for the competition (though it would probably work as a single). Just didn't feature her voice enough. My thoughts at this point were : Hmmm....Diana definitely has the lead.....

Diana 2 - Welllll....Ok, she did aight, but that's about it. She did this song MUCH better the first time around. Definitely left a little crack here for Fantasia to get back into it.

Fantasia 2 - Ok, there is such a thing as going back to the well once too often, and I think this was it. Don't get me wrong, she still sings this song great....it's just that she set such a high standard the first time around that it's impossible to live up to (one of the top 5 performances ever on Idol, in my opinion). She stepped up to the door Diana left open, but not through it just yet....The last song will decide it...

Diana 3 - Train wreck ! Sounded like Jasmine up there (and believe me, that is NOT a compliment). Blame it on this, that, and the other thing, but the FACT is that professionals have that kind of thing happen all the time, and they overcome it....She reacted like what she is: a decent 16 year old singer that has a lot of potential but ISN'T THERE YET. It didn't help that she sang that song so well just a couple weeks back. At this point, the competition is already blown, to me...Just no WAY Fantasia EVER puts on a performance that bad.

Fantasia 3 - That will probably be a number 1 single in a couple months...even though I'd be more inclined to listen to Diana's version (just my preference in styles). As usual, Fantasia gave a knock-out performance, and unless America is as tone deaf as Emu Phillips with a head cold and an ear infection, Fantasia should walk away with it.

Wait...these are the same people that thought John Stevens and Jasmine Trias could sing....what am I saying ?!?

Hey...Ummm....Since I picked Fantasia to win, maybe this stupid tin-foil isn't working....Do you think that could be it ? Maybe I DIDN'T really hear Jasmine flinging flat notes like they were flapjacks, or John Stevens butchering classic crooner tunes, it was just FOX making me think they were truly horrid !!!

***scary voiceover: No, WVRevy....that's just your imagination:***

Did you guys hear that ?

Anybody else think Simon was way out of line when he said..

Yes and No -- IMHO Clay and Ruben both had much better voices that Fantasia (and Diana) but they really didn't have much personality. Clay was very polite, Ruben just smiled. The one thing Fantasia really has going for her is stage presence. Yes, she is "sassy" and for whatever reason, the judges seem to love that.

I personally voted for Diana. I agree that she needs to be molded a bit but at least she can sing different genres. Fantasia has a great set of pipes but every song ends up sounding the same.

Oh well, it's all over tonight and as posted many, many, times: they are both winners to have made it this far. Bully for them...

I am watching "On-Air with Ryan Seacrest" (yes, I'll admit it...I am a dork & I watch On-Air everyday) & he just said that the difference between the winner & second place is less than 1 percent.

The show tonight is going to last 2 hours!!! I think I'll pop in my new LOTR:ROTK DVD & check in on AI at about 9:50pm.

I am still watching On-Air (yep, still a dork) & Ryan just said that the first hour will have performances on the outdoor stage. He mentioned George & Latoya performing (among others).

I just started watching AI for the first time a few weeks back - so just lurked on this thread......lots of interesting stuff here!

I prefer Diana, and tried to vote last night. I did the speed dial thing for a solid 1 1/2 hours before I got through once!

I guess all the other Georgian's had the phone lines all tied up last night!

Whew!

oooo another Ruben and Clay conspiracy. Great. We will be hearing about the cheaters at Fox for the next year!!

FYI, I totally disagree that Fan had a "knock-out" performance. I am not even remotely close to being tone deaf nor do I have a head cold or an ear infection, and I find it incredibly rude and condescending for people to keep saying that those who don't like the way Fantasia sings are tone deaf, etc.

I agree! I think Fantasia is good, but I can totally see how her voice would not be liked by all. I don't understand why anyone cares enough about what other people like/don't like to make such rude statements. Oh well.

wvrevy, I swear I have NEVER laughed like that in a long time... OR had anyone read my mind like that either...

Thank you!

Last night was the first time all season that I voted and I got through over 100 times over the course of about 3.5 hours (god I'm a loser, lol)! Yay me! I voted for Diana every single time :) I love both Diana and Fantasia but it simply makes me want to puke when the judges fawn all over one contestant and then try as hard as possible to discredit the other contestant! It was so obvious they were doing anything possible to help Fantasia win, and it certainly backfired in my case. I wasn't even planning on voting until the judges started annoying me so much! So here's to Diana!

I voted for Diana and hope she wins only because I can't stand Fantasmic Burrito (as my 7 year old calls her.) Fantasia may have a decent voice, but her mannerisms, rifts and ya-ya-yas drive me nuts. Both Fantasia and Diana had a couple of weak moments last night, but the judges fawned all over Fantasia and not Diana so we know who they want to win. I am at the point now with this season that I hope whomever (it's down to Diana now) that the judges DON'T like wins because I am tired of how they play favorites. I agree with the others, this next 'single' is not that good. It doesn't have the power or emotion that Kelly's single had. Did they even play the AI single from Ruben after he won? Both of these singles have been way too weak. No matter who wins, I don't expect to buy either of their CDs. I bought Kelly's, Ruebens (well it was a gift) and Kimberley Locke's. Kimberley Locke's has the most potential in my opinion. I just bought Tamyra Gray's today so the jury's out on that one.

I just hope Diana wins because not only does she have a more 'pop' saleable voice, I think she will do good in a studio recording setting, I also want to see the judges faces when their chosen one fails. EVERYONE knows that Fantasia will have contract from 19 Entertainment no matter what the outcome.

I dont think I will buy either one of their cd's...and this may be the last year for me watching too. everyone sick of this show ought to check out nashville star, now theres some real talent on that one....My all time favorite is still CLAY....I'll buy his christmas cd and the alladdin dvd and whatever else he makes...Love MEASURE OF A MAN... puckerup:
