With my very first post on this thread, I'm going to tick a few of you off, but I'll try to be nice
First, the good:
George - Someone mentioned that last night was "preachy", and I'd agree, but also say that is not necessarily a bad thing for the song he was singing. I'm a pretty big Elton John fan, and I think George probably did the most with the least last night, as it's not that impressive of a song, but he did it VERY well.
Fantasia - I wasn't all that impressed last night, but she's honestly the only one I can see having a real career in pop music after this competition. Think about it...would you be at
all surprised to flip past MTV some day and see her on there ?
Diana - Probably has the brightest future, I'm just not sure it's in "pop" music. I think the best thing she could do (after high school

) is head to Nashville. She will never be more than a sideshow in pop, but she could be a star in country.
LaToya - I thought she did VERY well last night, but I just think she's. wel, generic...There's nothing at ALL special about her voice or performances that I've seen. With Clay, Ruben, and Kim last year, all three had a "quality" that is tough to define, but you know it when you see it. Even though LaToya is one of the best singers this year (not saying much), she just doesn't have "it", in my opinion.
Then the bad:
Jennifer - Sorry, but having seen Elton sing "Circle of Life" and having heard it on Broadway, I was
seriously unimpressed by her performance. Yes, she "belted" a few of the notes...and compared to her competition last night, she was middle of the road...but compared to a real performer singing that incredible song ? It's not even close...
Jasmine - Ok, here's where I start ticking people off

Um, has anyone ever actually listened to her sing ? Honestly, I've heard better at EVERY single karaoke competition I've ever seen. Seriously, I don't think I've seen a single performance out of her that didn't make me think, "what is the attraction"...I just do NOT get it...But then, my 3 year old likes her, so what do I know
And the ugly:
Camille - The girl can't sing a lick..period. She's got a TERRIBLE voice. I'd rather listen to Brittany Spears, and that is saying something for me. She thinks she's Christina Aguilera, but as my dad used to say, she couldn't carry a note in a bucket
JPL - Or "The Hobbit" as he's known around our house...I get the impression that he's only kept around because he's "cute". I certainly haven't seen any real sign of talent, and last night was just HORRENDOUS. I honestly think
I can sing as well as he can, and my perfect pitch in my ears tells me I'm a far cry from that in my voice
John S - Could we
please drop the Sinatra and Dean references ? Just cause he sings like a lounge singer doesn't classify him with those two...he typically sounds closer to Bill Murray in those old Saturday Night Live skits. If you want that type of music, listen to Herry Conick Jr, then tell me this kid even belongs in the same breath with him, let alone Sinatra or Dean.
Honestly, I think this season is just terrible, but it won't make me stop watching

I love the concept, and it's nice to see someone occassionally come out with a tremendous performance. It's just a shame that there's nobody there that you can
depend on for that, like you could last year.
Oh well...now that you all hate me for playing Simon, I'll go back to lurking

Just wanted to add my $.02
