Offical American Idol Discussion Thread

Another AI addict here. Just a couple thoughts--Scooter girl better settle down, that routine gets old real fast. After two ful seasons I still can not figure out why Paula is a judge. She is as goofy as some of the kids.
Paula and Seacrest were kind of cutting on Clay on the Seacrest show this aftenoon. Not a nice thing to do.

Lol..I've met the Dean Martin guy....Johnny. I have to admit that I'm not a AI person. This is the second time I've ever watched it...but I knew this kid had a chance of being on tonight. He is friends with my BIL's family. He's been at a number of birthday parties and my niece has gone to a couple of school dances with him (as friends).

It's so funny because when my SIL first told me he was going to be on and had made it to Ca, I was shocked. I don't think this kid has said Boo in the times I've been with him....it was hard to imagine him as a performer, but he certainly sounded great! He has seemed very sweet and well mannered though. It must be so exciting for him. He can't say what the outcome is though.

Watching it with my BIL and his family was a hoot. The first time they came on, my 3 nieces stood up and just SHRIEKED. They screamed again when he was told he was going to Hollywood. I won't watch the next few because I didn't like the meaness of the auditons but I'll probably go watch the first California show at my BIL's house. Just watching my nieces and nephew is fun.

I was very upset that the military girl at the very beginning didn't make it! I really liked her, and I have entirely no idea why none of the judges did. I thought she was a better singer than some of the people who they liked.

I liked the guy who sang Unchained Melody, and I'm predicting that he has a decent shot of winning...an amazing voice got Clay 2nd place last year, and this guy has an amazing voice and he's hot!;)

I also liked the Dean Martin impersonator, my parents said that he kind of reminded them of Clay, because he didn't look like he could sing like that.

I loved Scooter Girl!! I can see where some people would find her obnoxious, but to me it just seemed like she was being natural. She's so fun and perky, and I was cracking up at everything she did!

What IS the deal with the military girl in the beginning? She wasn't that bad and she had personality and she was cute.

I wonder if we'll see her later??

I thought the military gal had a decent voice, too! They could pull her back - didn't Carmen get on that way last season?

Scooter Girl cracked me up - I knew she was going to get on, just from all the air time she was getting.

Liked the military girl, and couldn't figure out why it was a "no" from all of them?

Dean Martin dude and Unchained Melody dude were great - they could be contenders! :)

I swore to myself I wasn't getting sucked into AI3...not gonna do it, nope, not me.

I too was kind of surprised that military girl wasn't chosen. Scooter girl's act was a little too much for me but she did make me laugh. Another big laugh for the night was from Scat girl. WOW! And I thought it was a riot when Simon sent the lady into the bar to sing. Just about all of the patrons left (and I would have too)! :D

DH and I were also surprised that the military girl wasn't chosen. We thought she sang as well if not better than some of the ones they picked. I guess they have their reasons, but it was surprising.

Scat girl.....very interesting:tongue:

We love the auditions!::yes::

i was rolling with some of these auditions...and it makes me laugh even harder when simon starts laughing...i can't believe some of those people may actually believe that they can sing! i'm sure that a good majority of them do it just so they can get onto tv, but i still wonder how many of them actually believe they are good.

i did like the dean martin guy, AFTER he quit with the dean martin impersonation. i just don't know how he'll do with the various genres of music. he's awesome with those frank sinatra crooner type pieces...i'd be interested in seeing how he does with other types of music.

scooter girl drove me nuts. get off the scooter already! lol...but she has a decent voice...i just thought she was using too much vibrato. that's just a pet peeve of mine...but she'll be fun to watch...assuming she keeps that happy go lucky kind of attitude!

unchained melody guy was awesome too...

scat girl made me laugh...especially with that last little scream at the end...

i agree that sometimes the judges can be harsh...but sometimes the people are just so bad that you can't help it...i find it humerous.

oh...i liked those brothers that came in too...jesus and noel, i think. they were awesome. and those twin girls would have been great, had they fixed their harmonies...

military girl...she had a good voice and i thought they would choose her...but they know what they are looking for i guess...and she just wasn't it...

looking forward to more tonight!

I thought that sending that girl to sing in the bar was a great idea. There was only one person left at the end, LOL. She was awful.

:D I liked the twins, Jesus and Noel ??, too. They're not bad to look at either ;) . I also liked Unchained Melody guy.

I literally got a headache listening to some of those people! Bar girl actually made me turn down the volume on the TV!:o

Ugh, what a nightmare!

Another one who was really upset over the decision to get rid of the 82nd airborne girl! :( She was pretty talented, I thought. Far superior to the girl from wherever (Bulgaria???)! I guess the girl from Bulgaria looked more the part of a pop singer -- I sure hope we aren't going to be subjected to another year of them commenting on how people look!

Oh, and that girl on the scooter - she just might drive me insane if she doesn't calm herself down! Yup, she is talented, but goodness gracious, take a Valium!

I thought the most talented that I heard was the 82nd Airborne chick, followed by the twins. And I thought betting that girl to go sing in the bar, and setting her up by telling people about the bet and what the stakes were, was sadistic and cruel.

Oh how I love American Idol audition week---

ScooterGirl- Wow! I think my comment was "I would love to have whatever she's on." At least the girl can sing. (Although I will say that living in Grand Rapids for any length of time can make one go a little stir crazy :p )

I liked Johnny AKA Dean Martin. Someone is out there making big time bucks right now the same basic thing, although I can't remember the name of the artist....

ScatGirl- "Route 66"?? No, I think she got lost somewhere in Nevada and ventured into Area 51. Yikes!

Bulgarian Cher- "Oh, so that's what "Strong Enough" would sound like if sung by the late great Barry White..."

Military Girl- OK voice, great personality. She was good, just didn't knock my socks off.

Just my thoughts and I'm sticking to 'em-
Solotraveler:earsboy:

Is it only me or did anyone feel like there was more commentating from than tryouts? I felt like they showed more people auditioning last time.

I agree with an earlier post that they probably didn't want someone from the military like last year. She did have a good voice though. I liked her and was disappointed she didn't go on to the next round.

I didn't realize that the contestants had to fill out a questionaire about themselves. Simon, Randy and Paula must be looking for something, that untrained voice that can be made better. I honestly didn't expect the brothers to get a thumbs up but I'm glad that they did.

It's fun watching the bad ones but I really would like to see a few more of the good ones.

DH and I LOVED the first episode of auditions last night.

We thought that they didn't take the military girl because she didn't have the right "look". She was too "cute". But we both thought she had a great voice.

Has anyone see Maya Rudolph's impression of Donatella Versace on SNL? We thought that's what Bulgarian girl (the one who sang Cher) sounded like...like the SNL impression of Donatella Versace. Needless to say, it cracked us up!

I think Unchained Melody guy has the look and the voice...he's my favorite so far.

Were the brothers Noel and Jesus twins? I thought they were just brothers. They said they were seperated for 6yrs. b/c of family problems. I think it's great they reunited and made it to Ca.!!! I thought they were great(I might be alittle bias b/c they are from the Bronx like me;) )
I really like Johnny and can't wait to hear him sing other songs.
DH thought the guy who sang Unchained Melody was the best. I thought he was good, but not the best. We love watching AI and haven't missed a season! The auditions are the best part. It cracks me up to see the look on the judges faces when these people that can't sing are singing their hearts out! I know it's mean but, if I sounded that bad I would never go to the audition!! Don't these people have friends and family that can tell them they can't sing!!??
Can't wait to watch tonight.:teeth:

i forgot about the deep voice foreign gal!!! that was funny...
