Thanks for reminding me about this one :sad2:

My 11th grade English teacher used to say this all the time. She was wrong, it is the pants. I have some really cute skirts that make my boo ty look very nice thank you! ;)

Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Why does the fish water tank never run out of cups?

(mickeysfriend says she is sure there is a cup fairy!)

Hey, has anyone been to Vegas before and want to give me some advice? We are going for a week next month and we have never been :goodvibes :goodvibes

A little nervous because I am such a planner and there are so many people (family) going that I can't plan.

Any suggestions would be great!

I've only been to Vegas twice or so. But what I remember:

Do you and your group like:
1) gambling?
2) shows?
3) eating?
4) site-seeing?

I'm not much of a gambler. I think too much, know the odds, know that in the long-run, I'm unlikely to come out ahead. Completely ruins the "thrill and fun" of gambling, lol -- although my parents love the slots, and it makes me cringe to think of the odds on that. To keep it interesting, I taught myself blackjack, could play basic strategy easily, and for kicks, learned about card counting (but could not perform), but that will get you kicked out of the casino.

Shows: lots of great ones. Have you seen Cirque du Soleil, at Downtown Disney? There are 2, I think, in Vegas. Well worth seeing. Lots of other shows too, but I really like Cirque.

Eating: if you gamble enough, you'll get comped meals probably. Otherwise, there are plenty of great all-you-can-eat buffets that are pretty reasonably priced. Yumm :)

Site-seeing: You know, with all the gaudiness of Vegas, it was really a lot of fun just going from one flamboyant hotel to another. We walked between MGM-Grand, New York New York, the Luxor, Mirage, the Paris one, lots of really nice hotels, which are totally over-the-top with their decor. Surprised me how much fun that was.

Then, of course, you could see stuff close by. There was a park, ?Red Rock Canyon?, which was close by which was great to hike through. We also did a bus tour and saw (for me, the first time) the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam. Really awesome spectacles, both of them, for different reasons.

That's what comes to mind for me. As you can see, lots of different options for different people. Hope you all have fun!

My friends love Vegas, but I've never been. Don't know that is a good idea considering DH loves to gamble and if I let him he could serious damage to my check book then I wouldn't be able to shop. I would like to get married by Elvis though. Friends of ours got married there through a drive thru wedding chapel. How fun would that be? Great story to tell the kids. LOL

I LOVE Vegas. I'm like JeanJoe in the fact that I really don't like to gamble. But, you don't have to Gamble to have fun!
Each time before we went I would use the Internet to look up fun/cheap things to do. It's amazing all the tips/hidden goodies that people will post on the internet. That way we'd save enough money to go to a couple good shows while we were there. The hotels are almost like a mini-theme-park and we enjoy going through each - we love the 3-D rides, etc. in the Luxor the Shark exhibit in Mandalay Bay, the fountains, the volcano, the pirate ship.........such fun! :goodvibes
I make a list of what we would like to see / where we should go and then 'play it by ear'.
Have a GREAT time

(pm me if you would like to hear more)
p.s. another good show is the Blue Man Group

There is so much fun stuff to see and do in Vegas! I agree with Be that the Cirque shows are amazing- I have seen Mystere several times, but O has always been sold out during our trips. ZooManity I have not seen but have heard from others who have seen it that it can be a bit uncomfortable (human sexuality bits). And a new show just opened at the MGMGrand but I can't remember what it is called!

Also, I love the BlueManGroup at the Luxor!
If you are a thrill ride junkie, definitely do all the rides atop the Stratosphere-try to do them twice, once during the day, and again at night- it totally changes the experience!

Definitely spend time checking out the themeing of each hotel like Be said, some of them are just incredible (The Venetian is my current fav).

Also check out who might be performing the week you are there...not the big national tour concerts, but the regular performers who do extended shows at the hotels...Just to show how big a geek I am, I have seen the Golden Boys (Frankie Avalon, Fabian, and ???) as well as Tom Jones (and I am so not a fan of him but the show was fun anyway)!
You didn't mention if you were gonna have kids with you on this trip but there is a lot for them to do too. Sig and Roys Secret Garden, AdventureDome Theme park, the Lion Habitat at MGMGrand, the entertainment at Excalibur on the second level.... It goes on and on!

i made a help center

it's cool

i have anyone helping me (most from here)

it is cool isn't it?

Well, I finally tried to be organized, and I made a series of photo albums from my trips to WDW last October. My work sent me to Orlando, and I had an annual pass and the evenings free, so I took a lot of pictures. I don't know where else to post these on Dis (there is probably a better place, but I have never ventured outside of the VMK forum), but if you are interested and have something faster than dial-up (the pictures are 750 pixels wide), feel free to take a look:

If you want a wider viewership of individual photos that you particularly like, check out and consider posting to this thread.

It's got about 1,000 posts and >100,000 views :)

I can't believe that no one is shocked about the cup fairy! :faint:

Warning School Rant:

Why is that you can have about 200 families in a preschool but only about 15 families do any of the work to plan the activites that the parents want done? And then those parents that do not ever do anything are the ones to complain when things are not done like the previous years? I just do not get it. :confused3

Edited to add: and yes school has not even begun and we are planning events already.

I know your pain Astryd. I was very involved in my son's Pre-k, went on all the field trips, helped with all the school events...it was great, but I was one of the only parents that cared. Now, in elementary school, I'm a few years younger than most of the PTO mom's so I get the cold shoulder LOL

Tell me about it...our PTO was planning stuff for this year last April. God bless 'em! :)

I can so relate to the cold shoulder thing in the PTO. I am younger than a lot of the parents in the PTO at Vexer's school. It is just strange.

But The small Girls school is an expensive over achieving parent kind of school. Everything is way overboard. The Kindergarten class has there has "graduation" at the local country club  She will not be going there for Kindergarten that is for sure.

The school has these parent socials in the fall, one parent from the class hosts the party at their house and then another parent co-hosts and helps organize the pot luck, sends out invites etc. All the parents in the class are invited, as are the teachers, administration, and the owner. It is a big deal, usually very fancy, they have a theme, and everyone comes. Well no one has volunteered to host, so guess who is going to get stuck with it? And my house is no where near as big as some of the other parents. Just frustrating.

Plus at the same time this is going on they plan for a big father/child minature golf outing/fair at the local minature golf course. Each class is resposible for a game or actvity. They have a bake sale and a huge auction. And by the end of October everyone is already tired and more big events at Christmas, then..... well you get the idea. I just keep thinking 1 more year, 1 more year.

OK I want a home for completely off-topic randomness. Maybe what you had for dinner, or what your dog dragged in.

Hi JeanJoe,
I just found this thread. Totally funny. I love it :rotfl:

You mentioned your daughter who doesn't match clothes very well. Well, It can get a bit embarassing when one does this as an adult. I had a co-worker that said to me, "Remember, I told you before that those two colors don't go together".

Hi everyone, you guys are really funny.

p.s. the cb board scares me too

I'm not alone! I'm not alone! ;)

Maybe we could do group desensitization. You know, start off slow like a post with:

- "Hi! I'm new to the DIS and I'm glad to meet you all" (of course you could get flamed for posting the hi in the wrong forum)
- OK, safer: first post in the "Like it, hate it, NTI" thread. Never been flamed there, even when I told then I didn't like coconut ice cream!
- Then move on to "So who else likes Johnny Depp?" Seems safe.
- Then, when you are feeling bolder, try a "My Other said my butt looks big!" That should generate excellent discussion.

At this point, our skins should be thickened. It is time for the final exam posts. It's time for:
- "Liberals / conservatives (take your pick) are so stupid because..."

Or, perhaps scan down the old topic lists, find a topic with that cute little LOCK symbol on it, and then restart the thread by paraphrasing the gist of it. For optimum effect, PM the major contributors of the previous thread and tell them they're dumb, and show them the link to the new thread.

There! You are now a CB Veteran!

( This is what happens when I post when I'm mildly sleep deprived. Just move on to the next post. ) ( Not responsible for bodily or mental injury sustained from following any of the suggestions in this post. ) ( And Diskrista, I'm just kidding! I'm sure the CB board is great! )

but I'm still afraid.
