Off-topic randomness - a place to ramble?

They just announced on TV that Peter Jennings died! :(

*sad*
This is so sad! My thoughts are with him and his family today...He was a great man.

I heard this early this morning as well, and was shocked! I didn't even know he had been sick! What a great man, and a great life he led.

On another note, I was disappointed that the shuttle didn't land. DH works for NASA, so we have been following it closely. Guess I have to get up early tomorrow again!

How's this for random, my step-dad called DH at work today to chat and offered him a job managing their computer company....with a nice sized sign-on bonus. Apparently they are doing really well where they are, and need an office manager. DH is seriously considering it, but I'm not so sure I want to live that close to my mom again :rotfl:

But your ramble reminded me of my high school dorms. We would wait till an unsuspecting person was in the shower, and then 6 of us would flush every toilet in the bathroom simultaneously. Yep -- instant scalding hot water, yells echoing through the dorm, followed by threats of violent retribution.

I still have the ingrained reflex to jump out from under the shower if I think I hear the beginnings of a flush.

I don't think girls think like this...well, at least my friends and I don't!

With that being said though...

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

LOL, yup... that's what happens when you go to a (then) all guy's private school -- completely idiotic behavior ;)

On the other hand, I learned lots there! How to short-sheet beds, sacrifice lower schoolers to the Snow Gods, card doors, sneak out after lights-out and curfew, keep smoke from being detected under doors, hide alcohol, break into buildings, ... I think I better stop now.

Hmmm...I have some views on this Tishke and normally would PM you but at 5:51 in the AM it is easier for me to click quote ;)

Um, is it not INTERESTING how this just came up, when you and I JUST talked about this the other night?!?!

This just might be what you two need (you and mom).

HEL-LO!!! Can I say, "No more value resorts...French Quarter here I come"?!?!

But seriously, I hope you and DH and really considering the offer. I strongly believe (the faith side of me) that things happen for a reason. Sometimes light is shed where there is darkness...Know what I mean?

And on that note, talk to you tonight! :wizard:

Be, it really seems like you are describing "jail time" behavior :rotfl: :teeth: After reading that I have scenes of Toy Soldiers (the movie- minus the hostage fiasco) and Hearts In Atlantis (the book- only the chapters with the boys school and playing Hearts) running through my head. You don't happen to look like Wil Wheaton do you? lol.

That's funny, "jail time" behavior pretty accurately describes some of the experiences there. I don't think a description of hazing would be very "magical" for these Dis boards ;)

Yes! I look JUST like Wil Wheaton!!! Except with lots less money. And not cute. And without all the girls chasing him. And green. But JUST like him, otherwise!

=====

So, here I was, all set to share with you all how there's nothing worse than drinking a cup of the last 2 inches of coffee at the bottom of the pot, that had been sitting there on the warming thing for the past 4 hours. It pours out black, and this horrible stench of burned, carbonized sludge wafts through the air.

What's worse, though is how you feel after having drunk half of it, and it is trying to burn its way out of your stomach.

Then, finally, bringing it along during surgical rounds, having a clumsy surgeon (those are 2 words that should never be adjacent to one another) knock the whole thing over in the NICU.

I tried to towel down the area (missing the plan for the next couple of patients; hopefully they can take care of themselves), but I think the "coffee" is still eating its way through the waxed floor... It will probably drip through into the cardiac unit downstairs in a few minutes.

=====

There you have it: proof that a little bit of sleep is worse than no sleep at all.

5:51?! What in the world are you doing up?! It's still dark... dark means sleep. Warm comfy bed :cloud9: LOL

I think DH is seriously considering it, while I am having trouble uprooting DS to move across the state when he just started first grade yesterday. Then again, I would probably not have to work. I could go to school full time. Ack, I really hate being an adult! :rotfl:

Good luck whatever you decide to do! Grandparents can be nice at times. I know our family has thought many times about moving away from the area. It seems like our kids are constantly sick here. BTW, my son started Kindergarten yesterday and I miss him so much... :(

{{{Mickeysfriend}}} My little girl starts Kindergarten in 20 days. She's gone to preschool for two years but thinking of her getting on the bus and someone driving away with her kills me. She's my baby! Though I found that 1st grade is much worse for me. I cried and cried for days when my oldest (iluvsplash) went to 1st grade. She was gone all day without me to take care of her. In our school district K is still only 1/2 day though most schools in our area are full day now. It would be more convenient for me as far as babysitting while Im at work if it was full day but she still takes naps in the afternoon so its a good thing I think. I'm so not looking forward to next year when my baby will be a big girl and will be gone all day :-( But on the bright side...vmk all day....and serious mommy time. LOL

Friend! :( Sorry to hear that you miss your son! :(

In other news...I got my class list... so far it's definately a :sunny:  :teeth: :goodvibes :flower: class so I am psyched! Woot woot!

I have spent the past two days cleaning my room (er, I should say cleaning and catching up with everyone that I haven't seen since June! LOL!). I am so slow...everyone else and everything else is way more exciting than standing on top of a small stool hoping that I don't fall and crack my head open because I must...simply must...have this poster way up there in that corner! Even I drive myself crazy sometimes! :earboy2: LOL!

I remember those days. They were so much fun! I hope you have a great class and a very good school year!

You'll make it through! It's hard though. My youngest will be in first grade this year, and my oldest in 3rd. :guilty:

Kindegarten is hard, Pre-K was the worst for me since it is all day. I just couldn't imagine sending him off to the care of strangers! This year I was very scared since all his friends had been put into other classes and the teacher was new....so far so good, but I still sit there at work and wonder what he's doing. Did he eat his sandwich first at lunch, or his snack....did someone tie his shoes when they came untied....Did I put his rain jacket in his backpack??? The mommy-ness never ends :rolleyes1

Thanks! I'm excited!

Oh, I don't recall if I told anyone here, but I met a girl who as become a very good friend at work two years ago and I got my best friend from college a job at our school, too! Trust me, we have major fun! LOL! ;)

And, Be, our principal calls us "Triple Trouble." I can't imagine why he might think we would do something goofy. :rolleyes1

So, can anyone explain to me how a 12 month old baby can overpower her dad during a diaper change?

I mean, I out-mass her by at least 7 times, and yet, she just about wins every wrestling match we have. Then again, she frequently commits fouls by going for the dirty diaper, but there have been times when I've been trying to pin her with one arm, holding down her hips with another elbow, while trying desperately to shove the diaper out of the reach of her flailing legs with whatever remaining body part I have left. Finally, I end up needing to gang up on her and call in mom.

How do toddlers do it?

I think I need a diaper changing table with built-in four-point restraints.

ROFL! Be, sounds like you need some help there. Might I offer a suggestion given to me by the infamous Disalex? Duck (Duct) Tape! He swears by it.
