Okay, I had this very conversation last year before our trip and I thought I had all the info saved, but apparently not. If all goes well, we will make a trip back to the Fort in June. We will have my father with us and we will definitely need a cart. Our plans are for 12 days and I remember that it was cheaper to rent offsite than on. In fact, I even had plans made and it seems that the rental place was in Winter Garden-maybe :confused3 . Anyway, I ended up not doing it because I didn't want to go offsite by myself, get the cart, return etc. But, if my dad is going with us then it won't be a problem. I remember that several people had used this same company and the rates were reasonable, but I can't remember the name of the place. Can anyone help?

TIA
Melanie

A company I was introduced to last year is Golf & Electric Vehicles Group (formerly known as CUSTOM CARRIAGES, INC.) According to their Regional Sales Manager (they have 5 locations around Florida) they have 2 passenger, 4 passenger and 6 passenger golf cars available for rental. Additionally, they offer gas and electric vehicles, although electric is preferable due to less noise and pollution. Rental rates are less than FW but you have to factor in a pickup and delivery charge of $50 roundtrip. They will deliver the vehicle to FW, coordinated in advance. Also, a rental agreement must be signed and faxed to them before delivery can be made. Payment by check or cash due upon delivery of vehicles. On my last trip to Fort Wilderness I tried out their services. On the appointed day they road up to my site in the cart and the day were were leaving they picked it up at the site. The down side to their services is that they do not pick up or deliver on the weekends. But, if you are staying for a couple of weeks and want a cart you can save money this way. Contact Steve Senesi for more information.
.
Other sources of carts in Orlando include:
EZGO 407-847-3444
Yamaha Factory Outlet 407-847-5019
Orlando Golf Carts 407-426-9727

I thought a few years back Disney stopped outside companies from delivering to FW.I believe it was around 2002?If you were renting off site the only way to do it was to tow it in on your own vehicle.Has this policy since changed??I would love to save a few bucks on the golf cart. The price is ridiculous, not that it stops us from renting one on each trip to The Fort. ::MinnieMo
Thanks
Heidi

I also beleave that they put a stop to having them delivered by an outside company. One way around it would be to meet them in the overflow lot.

We rent from the outside company as well. They do meet you in the overflow lot now and it is a well coordinated effort. The practice that FW put a stop to was their leaving the carts lined up outside the Outpost waiting for pick-up.

Which company did you use? I called one company and e-mailed another (can't remember the names) and was told by both that we would have to come and pick it up - they wouldn't deliver at all. And, I would love to do this, both to save money (we will be there for 11 nights) and to get a 6 passenger cart.

bianca, will you please let us know which company you used. And, if you remember what the price was and for how many days. Thanks!

I would like to know as well. :)

ugadog, are you staying on Siesta Key? Just curious as to where, because I've found the hotel situation there to be confusing!

Gillian, when I first posted the ticker we were going to split between Siesta and Disney at POR. Right now I'm in the process of trying to convince my dad to make the trip to Disney with us and pull the pop up. (Won't pull by myself again-long story) So, if he goes with us then we will just stay at the Fort. If he doesn't we may still split Siesta/WDW. There really aren't many (if any) hotels on Siesta. It is our favorite beach, but you have to rent a condo and most of them have a 1 week minimum.

Uagdog99, the one week thing, plus the sheer volume of places really put me off! I was trying very hard to find something for us for april 2005 but gave up and we decided not to go to florida anyway.

We have family in Sarasota, but they don't have room for us. We could probably sleep in the pop up in their driveway, but their neighbors might not like it too much, and we'd have to go into the house to use the bathroom. Right now we have reseravtions at gulf beach campground.

If you know of specific condos or weekly rentals that are a good bet, I'd love to hear about them! PM me if you happen to think of anything.

I hope you can convince your dad!

My hometown. :) Check out Gulf Sands on Casey Key. It's a motel right on the beach. If you ask for Apts. 1 or 2, the door literally opens up to a patio that is right there on the beach looking out at the Gulf. The place is not fancy, but sort of old Florida and quaint. Casey Key is south of Siesta but not far. (maybe a 20 min. drive on 41) Just a thought....

The company we used was Golf Cart Enterprises and the last time I used them was Dec. 2004. I just threw out the copy of my last contract with them, but if memory serves me correctly, we paid somewhere around $480 for delivery, pick-up and 4 weeks rental cost. This was for an electric 4-person cart. We have also reserved gas carts from them in the past, as well as 6-person, so I know that they have them all. Their phone number is (407)850-5559. Hope it helps.

bianca, thanks so much. Hopefully, my dad agrees to come with us and we can rent the cart offsite.

Gillian, try vrbo.com. There are some owners on Siesta that have reasonable weekly fees. We like Crystal Sands the best, though.
