Odd spelled names

Well, my name is Jenny. I use the most common spelling. My grandma has ALWAYS spelled it Jennie. No biggie. I deal.

I thought of giving my son a different spelling of his name (Bailey, yes, he's a boy. Like Bailey on Party of Five, it was in the baby name book under boy names, not girl names) I kinda wish I would have made it look more masculine. He's only 7 and he has no problem spelling his name for people.

Heck, if I wanted to name my child Tljldsfawerfiuyhkg and call him Bob, that is totally up to me.

My dd's name is Sara Kaytlin. Almost everyone tries to put an "h" on the end of her name. Almost no one can spell her middle name right (it's a combination of my mother and my grandmother's names, so it's spelled that way on purpose;)).

Her dad's name is Allen. Almost no one can spell his name right either.:p

When I was a little kid and first learned to spell my name, I bragged to my older sister and spelled it for her. She informed me that I was spelling it wrong because she knew someone who spelled Rachel with 2 'a', Rachael. I was so upset that she told me I wrong. I still always spell my name when I ever I tell it to someone, on the phone or in an office "My name is Rachel, r-a-c-h-e-l"....It bugs me when I get mailed with it spelled wrong.

My DD is name Annie. That is her legal name. Not Ann, Anne or Anna. People have a hard time with that. They think it is a nickname and want to call her by her proper name. She is only in preschool now but I am sure she'll have a hard time with that in school. I guess I didn't think ahead when I named her!! My mother in law's name is Anna so it was a tribute to her without actually naming her after her.

My father's name was Risden as was his father's and his father's on back. Original spelling was Risdon but somewhere the o was changed to an e. Ris (short i) den. Now no one could pronounce it or spell it but it is a tradition name in our family. Interesting that my brother was the last to have the name. I had no boys. I think I would have named one Risden James and called him RJ. BTW if you see a CD of a group called Risdon, it is my daughter's group and it named in honor of her uncle and granddad
I had a student named Tiara (Tara) Know an Aymara (use her sign name as she is a deaf friend), a Tamara, a Tamera and a Xomara. Also a Xavier and Javier.

Well, add me and my Dh to the uneducated bunch ;)
Our son is Christofer. yep, with an F not a PH.
He's never complained and neither has anyone else.

My name is Cathy. Not Catherine, not Cathleen, just Cathy.
When I transfered to an all-girl Catholic school they insisted on calling us by our Christian names. I had to bring in my birth certificate to prove to them it was my "Christian" name! LOL

Micki here. Just wondering why sooo many can spell Vicki and Nicki right, but not my name. I get Mickey or Mikki or Mickie, but never Micki.
Oh well, it is a nick name for Mary Kay. People never get that one right either! I have to spell it out.........Mary space Kay. And yes, it is my first name. Colleen is my middle name. So confusing for some people, it is like why bother????
I guess it is stuck with me for life!
:o)

I'm Marissa... most of my friends know how to spell my name by now, but I still see Marrisa, Marisa, Marrissa, Mariisa, (then those who forget about the I altogether), Marsa... then substitute teachers are the worst with saying my name.. Mellisa, Marie-sa, among others... and then I have an Italian last name... it's fun to have people try to spell it... and it has two t's next to each other, so often times people mistake it for an H.. oy!

I am Jessica Anne. I grew up saying, "Jessica, not Jennifer" and "Yes, there is an E on the end of Anne."

So what do I do???

DD1 is Ashlynn Jayne. At 6, she has already learned to say her name with the emphasis on Lynn so people know it is not Ashley. And the number of people who misspell Ashlynn astounds me. Usually people try to spell it Ashlin, Ashlen or Ashlyn. Personally I don't get it. Lynn is spelled L-Y-N-N, so why wouldn't Ashlynn be spelled A-S-H-L-Y-N-N. OK, off my soapbox now!

And DD2 is Maiya Victoria. I can find Mya, Maya, and Maia, but not Maiya. But I absolutely love the spelling of her name, so I deal with it!

You would think I would have learned after my youth!

My sister's middle name is Lyn, and I've seen it spelled that way quite a bit. I have always seen Lynn when it is for a guy.

I was always Niki growing up. No one spelled that right. My sister is Sara, and no one spelled that right. My younger DD is Emilie. WHY did I do that??? I wish I could go back and do it Emily or really mess it up like Emaleigh. Leigh is my middle name.

My parents decided to give me the least common spelling of my name-Traci with the i. Which people never get write. Even when I tell them it is with an i it sometimes gets written down with a y or an ey.

Then to top it off they added lyn. Nobody ever gets that right. It is a lower cased l. Everyone always wants to make it capatalized or add another n to the end of lyn.

I guess my college thought I was dumb when I filled out my paperwork and wrote Traci-lyn, because they input Traci-Lyn into their computers. I know it is only a capitalization thing, but that is not how my name is spelled. Now it says Traci-Lyn on my diploma and they won't change it or give me a new one.

My brother's middle name is Len, admittedly pretty unusual but EVERYONE insists it's Lynn and that HE is the one misspelling it. I have never heard of anyone else with that name unless it was short for Leonard, which my brother's is not.

Me too! That is hard for some people to get right. When I write it down everyone is like, "what?" I have never been accused of mispelling it though. lol ;)

I usually get Lay instead of Lee. I like the spelling of my middle name. My mom spelled it that way after Janet Leigh. I don't think she really liked her, just the spelling. So you'd think with an acctress as popular as her it wouldn't get mispronounced.

I get mine from my granddad or greatgranddad, if I am not mistaken... I would have to ask my mom. But I really think I get it from one of them.

I have a normal name, spelled traditionally that people still manage to mispronouce and misspell. "Normal" names are no guarantee of avoiding name difficulties. Also, everyone seems to think my last name is misspelled. The junk mail and telemarketers are always so confused.

Oh, and I have a friend whose name is Alexis Michelle, but she goes by Miche, pronounced like yours... :)

Sorry, but I hate "creative" spellings. If you want to give your child a "different" name, then do that. Changing the spelling of a well-known, already established name doesn't make it different, it makes it misspelled. Quite frankly, I find that it makes the parents look uneducated. This is, of course, just my opinion.

::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes:: Yup...invasion of the Tryndees. Why people want to tack on random mc's and insert y's and spell a name as if they've never attended an English class....I just don't get it. :confused3

I like my name and how it is spelled. There were three Crystals in my HS but I was the only Christal. I have a Brenden not a Brandon. Both of those names are "traditional", but people still want to call him Brandon. I think it is their stupidity that makes them say it wrong. My DS name is spelled how it sounds. It is nice to know that some people feel that both my parents and DH and I appear uneducated because of how we chose to spell our childrens names.
