October 30, 2011 Wonder - A Haunting on the High Seas

I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to (and my phone is charging so I can't call!). When we did our online check in, we were given a time to show up to the port - I think it was 12 or 12:30. BUT we want to upgrade at the port and we are afraid that there won't be any left by the time we get to the port if we stick to our check in time. SO what I am wondering is if we are allowed to show up and check in BEFORE our assigned time? :confused3

After you are finished checking in but before you leave the window, let them know you are interested in finding out about a cabin upgrade. If there are any available (good chance there will be on this cruise), they will walk you over to the upgrade CM. They can tell you if and what is available. It can be pretty cheap, depending on availability and how much you paid for your cabin. If you are at all interested, go ahead and ask, if you don't like the amount, decline - we have. Of course the earlier you get there the better chance you will have. I have been there right when the port opened and there was nothing available. I have also seen them offering upgrades in GS the second day of the cruise. If you are unhappy with your cabin now and MUST move, do it now and don't ask about upgrading.

I have the earliest boarding time, 11:00, for this cruise. All other cruises I have come on DCL transportation to the port and didn't get a boarding time, they just put you in line and on we walked (after waiting in line, this is Disney after all). I have heard conflicting comments from people who arrive before their assigned time, some have been made to wait outside and look in the window like lost puppies, while others have just walked in. I think if you ask they will tell you you can't get in until your boarding time.

Shirt update!!

I have been informed that they can't make infant size shirts. I know a few have inquired/ordered infant sizes, but childrens sizes are the smallest they can do :(

If you have already paid for an infant size and do not want a childs size, let me know and I will return the payment. I'm really sorry :(

Hi Molly! No problem, thanks for checking on that! Just order the smallest child size they have for Channing (my 10 month old) He's a pretty chubby baby anyway! :)

40 days away! I'm officially starting a diet today. :sad2:

I've been saying that for the past few weeks. Today is officially the day for me too. I figure if I'm going to gain 5-10 lbs on the cruise, I should loose at least that before we sail. :rotfl2:
(I Wonder what the average weight gain is?) :confused3

We have never had a problem with the food on the ship. For the most part we love the lunch buffets. I am a little picky so certain theme days don't work me but I never seem to have a problem finding something to I like. The dinners are always great. My husband and I tend to order more then one thing because we like to trying different things. For instance if there is a risotto dish and a steak dish I am probably ordering them both bc they are both so yummy! My husband tends to love all of the different starts and yes he has sometimes ordered them all.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Palo. I think it is well worth the money. I thin kthe food and the money spent for it are well worth it. We have dined there over 20 times between brunch and dinner and can't wait to go back again. We even try to do more then one brunch when available because we love it so much! The service there is also great!

Ohhh, now I am hungry thinking of the cruise! :rotfl: Can't wait to board in a few weeks!!!

One tip is to take the stairs! My husband and I try to use the stairs the whole cruise. Going down is of course usually easier then going up! :rotfl: We have a friend who has been on 6 DC's and has NEVER step foot in an elevator. It is her way to enjoy all she wants and not feel guilty! One of the cruises was a 14 night cruise too! :thumbsup2 It also saves a ton of time! Our daughter has a special needs chair so sometimes we can't use the stairs but when she is not in her chair we are all trying to use the stairs! :)

I'm so excited! We just got our travel book/cruise document in the mail. It has our cabin info, vacation check list, luggage tags and other info that makes me realise how soon we sail.
(40 days) Even though I knew most of this info already, it's still fun to see it in the little book. I can't wait to show the girls when they get home from school. I think I'll have Goofy call them tonight and give them another cruise welcome!

I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY hope that they change formal night on our cruise so it is not night 2. The "generic" information for all 7 night Mex Riv is that formal night is on night 2. I just hope they don't rush through Halloween during the day and then make that night formal. :confused3 I really hope they move formal night!

We love when vacation booklets arrive, such a fun day!!! :)

That's a great idea! I love it. My youngest plays club soccer and is worried about not training for a week so she wants to bring her soccer ball and play around on the sports deck a few days. She was thrilled to find out she could run deck 4 three times and that was equal to a mile. (I think that's what she said.) If that's true, I'll be walking while she's running. She can do 3 laps while I do 1 or 2.

Yes running on Deck 4 is great! Your dd will love it. It is so pretty out there. I remember when my youngest would still nap, I would walk her around there while she napped and I took in the fresh air!

I am getting so excited for this cruise!!!

I called DCL regarding Halloween details a couple of weeks ago & they informed me that they're going to do the trick or treating & costume contests on night 1 of the cruise (10/30) instead of 10/31 ergo not loosing a formal night.. Things may have a changed by now but that was last I'd heard..

That seems like a much worse decision the moving formal night. People won't even have their luggage to get ready for Halloween stuff...seems very silly to me. The last thing I want to do is carry all the Halloween stuff onboard and start getting ready right when we board. I don't see how that is even possible. All ship services shut down at 3:30 for the lifeboat drill. Then people start getting ready for dinner shortly after the sail away party... :/ Most of the time our luggage has arrived before the lifeboat drill but we have had times that suitcases have shown up when we are at the show (we do late dining). Moving formal night to a cruise casual night seems to make more sense but the setting of the shows is probably the issue. The tech crew works so hard on those ships that a change in show schedules might make for a headache for them. I don't however think that they can pull off all the costume stuff and everything on that first day. The first day is a little crazy with people exploring the ship, changing dining, signing up at guest services for different events, etc. I would be VERY disppointed if they did as would many others who would have Halloween costumes packed away and no time to prepare. Boo!

The Ship That Rammed Halloween!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We booked the Wonder over Halloween in anticipation of the celebrations. I just spoke with DCL and Halloween, October 31 is a formal night and Halloween activities have been moved to October 30, the sail date. WhaaaAAT?! I asked how they will work that if all aboard is not until 4:00, and then we have the lifeboat drill and sail away party, dining at 5:30 and then 8:30, plus the welcome-aboard show. When would they have the promised custume parade and contest and trick or treating? She didn't know how that could work.

Imagine the poor stewards if people have worked on costumes and their luggage doesn't arrive in their room in time?

You can't MOVE Halloween - sounds like a Disney cartoon title -- The Ship That Rammed Halloween.

Please call DCL to tell them that Halloween needs to be celebrated on Halloween! Here's the number for Castaway Club (toll-free, and they'll answer even if you aren't a clubmember yet!) (800) 449-3380.

I called DCL...I was placed on hold for a bit. They came back after contacting the ship. No decisions have been made on anything as of yet. They said that they can see how if someone called that it could be miss read as to the events taking place on the 30th. The only info they have is the letter we all received. They said since people are starting to call (ie, keep calling) they are going to firm up details in the next few days and may have informatoin confirmed by the end of the week! :thumbsup2

Here's to hoping it is NOT on the 30th, that it takes place on the 31st and that formal night is moved to another night! :thumbsup2

I agree. Thanks for calling. The girl I spoke with had to hunt for the details for our cruise and then read them off to me. She said she would send my concerns up the line.

How did you get your port arrival time? I booked online and did the online check in as well, so I chose my own. When I went back in to change it a few days ago, it still showed open times starting at 12:30.

Rene

Are you already part of Castaway Club? I'm not, this i sour first DCL cruise, so maybe we get less choice? When I went to the page the other day to double check there was still only 2:30, but I will check again, and maybe even call.

Lol, Ditto! I have been "dieting" for a while but now its time for a DIET! :lmao:

:scared1: I really hope they rethink this! I mean WHY make life so complicated??? I want Halloween on Halloween! I have looked at 2 different sets of Navigators for this cruise from previous cruisers that posted them here and the schedules were different... so how do we know which night will be which? Do we have to wait until the sailing before ours? I hope they don't move the Halloween festivities, but I can totally see them doing it, after all at DLR and WDW they celebrate Halloween fro a month and a half with the Halloween parties... I guess we will have to wait and see :confused3
