October 30, 2011 Wonder - A Haunting on the High Seas

Hello all, my name is Chris and my wife Destiny and two children, Kaylee (10) and Keira (4), will be joining you on this sailing. We are super excited as this is our first Disney Cruise. We are huge Disneyland fans and are now going to find out how Disney does cruises! I see there are 15 pages of posts here dating back some 16 months ago, forgive me for not getting all the particulars about this meet. Perhaps somebody would be kind enough to catch us up on the plans for this "meet"? Thank you and look forward to seeing you all there.

Welcome!!! If you go to the first page if the meet thread we have all signed up on a google sheet listing our cabins # of cruisers and vital stats. That's probably the best place to start.

My DH and I are also first time cruisers though DH is also a DL newbie on this trip.

Sorry I haven't been on the site in a while. Welcome Ivrebel76, glad to have you onboard with us. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help make this an even better cruise for you and your family. Are you planning to participate in the FE? Have you read about the fish extender activity many DISboard groups do? We are also planning a Champagne Girls gala and a Drink of the Day, Mixology class private session for those who want to join. However, if you don't want to participate in those that is ok and we welcome you here on the board to share ideas and plan for our cruise.

I have been busy with a couple of things for the Hawaii cruise web site group. We are trying to design Hawaiian shirts for our group. I found a company that will make the material and shirts. I've been spending a lot of time mocking up material designs for us to consider. We are also hoping to have a marriage vow renewal ceremony for the group (sounds kinda Moonie doesn't it?). We won't be going through Disney Weddings, the weren't interested in doing a group vow renewal. So we are trying to come up with a reception on our own. I've been drafting up a ceremony and program.

Anyway, about our cruise - I paid the cruise in full yesterday so that I could schedule our excursions and Palo starting tomorrow. I need to make our reservations for our stay at the park the 4 days after too. I think we are going to stay at the GC. Disney offers very generous discounts for military.

Off to get ready for the delivery of my new stove, a GE Profile, dual oven, 5 gas burners, convection oven - I am so excited. Next is the granite counters. Love when a remodel is done - HATE while it is happening. Have a good weekend everyone.

Val,

If you need any ceremony ideas let me know, I still have the ones I was sent for my WDW wedding last summer. Your stove is giving me severe kitchen envy! 100 days until DH and I are in DL!!

Thanks Valbob,

Any tips for sailing Disney would be great. We probably will participate in the FE fun. None of us are that great at sewing around here, so we may have to just wing it. You may see one of the most interesting FE's you've ever seen! Does anyone going have a Daughter around age 10? I would love for my own to meet somebody and have a friend to hang out with during the cruise. We will be granting her some freedoms that she typically wouldn't get here at home. I know how much fun that was for me when I was her age.

I bought my FE off of ebay from a seller named GradysMommy. It turned out AWESOME!!

I'll post pictures if you'd like to see them.

YES PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!! I suppose I'll start to work on our FE. Vince uses this roll of stuff that you place between two pieces of fabric & then iron to attatch the pieces together. No sewing needed!! It's awesome stuff!

Welcome Chris & family!! Can't wait to get to know you guys better! I used to work for DCL in Youth Entertainment with all ages. If you let the counselors know (not the first day, but the second for sure) that you want her to make friends, they will do their best to help facilitate that! We're always around for questions!!

105 days till the wedding!!!!!!!!!! 106 days till we board the for a WONDERful honeymoon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bride:

I got my FE for my last cruise on ebay as well. It was reasonably priced and very well made.

Welcome onboard Chris and family!

Ok, i'll have a look at what Ebay has to offer, thank you.

I've seen really nice FEs bought from EBay and other sites. Others have spent a lot of time making one, but that is because they have the time and desire to do so. I love crafts and it was a way to get my Bob involved, he made fancy mariner knots that I sewed onto the thing. But that doesn't make mine any nicer then others, it was my choice.

So, don't stress on it. I've seen where people bought a cloth tote, like you use to bring your groceries home in, and decorated that. They bought the glitter material paint that comes in little bottles with a small tip at the top and wrote their names. They also glued pictures on it. Might have been a fun family project. If you do this, look for the smaller type totes - or use what you might have around the house. Same with the decorations, use what you have, let the kids decorate it.

It you went that way I would strongly suggest bringing a plastic tie to attach it to the FE so someone doesn't just walk away with it.

OK, that sounds great. i should expect nothing less from Disney!!! She is a good kid and never seems to have a problem making friends I just hope that there are quite a few kids there her age. Never been on a cruise with my kids so I'm not really sure what to expect.

I am sorry - but I have to change my reseveration to the next week. I was unable to get the week of Oct 30 off, someone else had already asked. Oh well. I have changed my dates and I will wave at yall when I board and yall are getting off!

Hope you have great cruise!

Bob here. Is that why I was making knots for our FE, so she could get me involved? What about when I said I'd ... Oh, forget I said anything.

We had a judging event for the FEs, with tiny prizes and bragging rights awarded. One that garnered more votes than ours was made by a guy from Australia or New Zealand. Not being the sewing type, he'd created his from brown craft paper and paper tapes with lick-and-stick adhesives. It was very crisp, with expanding folds on the pockets, and with white and black trim. Naturally, I felt we deserved a higher award, but I don't think we had enough contrast in our colors.

And another FE was made to look like two little tropical shirts, with the main pocket being the open collars, and with little breast pockets, too.

My family is on the verge of handing over the old credit card and signing up for this cruise. There are three of us: DH46 Bill, DW46 Carol, and DS6 Stephen. We are from the St. Louis, Missouri area. Our FE has us listed as DaddytheDoh, MommytheMean, and StephentheBrave (our own pirate theme). It was made by Gradysmom on EBay and is really nice. We would want to participate in the FE, especially since I have a suitcase already filled with them for the cruise we had to cancel.

We were originally scheduled on the Dream five night for the Memorial Day holiday "The First To Dream It Twice." I had just closed the trunk to our car and was going to head into the house for the night so we could leave for Port Canaveral at 5 am the next morning. I saw the neighbors across the street and wanted to tell them that we would be gone for the next two weeks. Stephen hopped on his new bike and was riding it while we chatted. He went down the hill at the end of our street and couldn't stop and wrecked. We ended up spending the week at the local Children's Hospital with a ruptured spleen.

We had to cancel the cruise at the last minute. DCL kept all but twenty dollars of our fare. Fortunately for once I bought travel insurance and it has just paid us off. With the Kids Sail Free offer, it is really advantageous for us to go on the Wonder now.

I will let you all know once we get a cabin number. I am searching for more information about a hotel the night before the cruise and transportation from LAX to the port. We plan to fly in the day before and relax at the hotel pool before going to the port the next day.

Welcome - glad you are joining us. On the first posting is a link to a spreadsheet you can use to join in the FE and a few other things. I can get you info on hotels in the area, including ones that have free shuttles to the port. Some nice DISboard member on our Hawaii cruise has done a lot of research. I'll get it for you and post it.
