Just an FYI - the Florida Republican Convention is happening this weekend at the Shingle Creek Resort and the FL Democratic Convention will be held next weekend (October 26-28) at the Yacht & Beach Club.

I doubt that the parks will be packed by the conventioneers because they probably have lots scheduled to do (meetings, etc.), but the restaurants might be crowded if you're planning on running over to Beaches & Cream for a "kitchen sink"! :rotfl:

BTW - all the major Republican candidates will be at the Shingle Creek, but no Democratic candidates are "allowed" to show up at the FL Democratic convention because FL voted to move the state primary to January and is in big trouble with the national committee. They are only allowed to fund raise in FL now, nothing else. ;)

NNNOOOO ! ! ! !

<little man in head runs in circles> :scared:

I hope they do not go to the parks...should I rent a car?

I wonder how tight security is going to be? In February 2006 when President George W. Bush was at the Contemporary my parents and I asked during our stay there in August 2006 how all the security was and we were told all the Cast Members were forced to park at the TTC. I also remember last November or something some of the Democratic Candidates like John Edwards and etc was also at the Contemporary for some convention, however we never asked what security situation was like.

Hmm, I wonder about security since none of the big "name" candidates will be attending :confused3 - though there probably will be more assigned just because of the amount of people that will be there.

More hotel info from the Florida Democratic Party website - looks like the CBR will also be used for convention delegates, so any DISers staying at CBR next weekend will probably see lots of conventioneers around also :) :

Hotel Info:
The Yacht & Beach Club Resort is sold out. We will keep a wait list of delegates who failed to book hotel rooms before they sold out. We will work with delegates on a case-by-case basis as other rooms become available. There are no guarantees.

The Caribbean Beach Resort is sold out. We will keep a wait list of delegates who failed to book hotel rooms before they sold out. We will work with delegates on a case-by-case basis as other rooms become available. There are no guarantees.

Parking info (looks to me like they will have their own shuttles, so probably won't affect regular guests):

Parking at the actual convention site will only be available to guests staying at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club. However, for those who are staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort or elsewhere, the Party has made arrangements to handle your transportation needs. If you are staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort, we will have a bus shuttle service transporting our delegates throughout the weekend. If you are staying anywhere else in the park or will be commuting to the convention daily, you will be parking in the Epcot Parking Lot. Parking passes will be included in the delegate packet sent to you in the first week of October. A bus shuttle service will also transport delegates to and from the Epcot lot and the Convention Center throughout the weekend.

Schedule (looks to me like they will be pretty busy - maybe too busy to go to the parks! :cutie: )

How many will actually follow that itinerary, and how many will sneak next door to the Food and Wine Fest? I know which I'd choose!;)

Security was tight for the President because he's under the Secret Service protection. They check everything. The presidential candidates are not covered by the Secret Service. There will be increased security but nothing like when a President is on site.

mickeyfrea13 - I wouldn't worry about the crowds at the parks. I could just imagine it if the conventioneers spent a huge amount of time doing Disney World. Yep, imagining that headline right now - "State Convention a Real Mickey Mouse Event for 2007".

Unless I am wrong I thought presidental candidates do get secret service, or is that after they been officially nominated by their political party?

The usual procedure is this :
Secret Service Protection for Major presidential and vice presidential candidates, and their spouses within 120 days of a general presidential election.

But Hillary has already it because of this:
Former presidents and their spouses for their lifetimes.

And Obama already has it:
May 4: Barack Obama was placed under Secret Service protection, the earliest ever for a presidential candidate. Officials said Obama had requested the protection.

I think that the way the world is now, I would request it early too if I was running for office!

the conventioneers don't need to go into the parks, the parties are mickey mouse operations all on their own..
