October 22, 2005 Roll call

Hi everyone,

I've just spent the last half-hour at various website looking into Wilma. Although they all say that predictions aren't accurate out more than a day or two, most seem to think it will be heading into the gulf by Friday and will then turn and strike western Florida late on Saturday. They clearly don't know WHERE it will hit since the predictions range from the Keys up to Tampa. There also seems to be agreement that it will lose strength once it starts through the Yucatan channel and will probably hit florida as a Cat 2. Although I'm not sure, I don't think a Cat 2 on the west coast will cause big enough problems on the east coast to stop us from boarding and setting out to sea. Once a hurricane hits land, it usually breaks up pretty quickly.

I agree with Mrs.Abuboo's DH and ThreeSmith's DH - I think we have a good chance for an extra day at sea on Sunday and we'll take the long route around Cuba to get to GC on Tuesday. As long as Cozumel doesn't sustain major damage (cross your fingers!), we should be able to go there also.

Of course, there are still some models that show it going into the Yucatan down near Belize and breaking up. I like that one best, but it doesn't seem to have many followers among the forcasters!

I'm not going to panic over it - if we do a modified cruise I'll be a little disapointed since we also didn't get our "real" Western last year and rebooked a Western for that reason. I certainly hope we don't get the San Juan - Nassau itinerary since I don't care for either of those ports!

I think I'll go along with this prediction...It sounds like the best one :goodvibes in my book.

Although I would like to see something else....We had a great time at both of these ports...I sure wouldn't mind picking up some more of the cool masks that we got in San Juan last year...And another day at Atlantis...I could go for that. :teeth: ....but I would RATHER see someplace new and diffrent.

Well...enough of that Wilma talk....We've got a BUSY day tomarrow... oh I mean today...The girls have school (Alexis has an early dentist appointment...she has a moler that's loose and another one pushing it's way out....so she asked to go to the dentist to have the "loose" one pulled before we go...and of course she asked this past weekend...nothing like the last min....I'd tell her to just work it out..but it's not that far along) then it's off to school for her..Then I have a hair appointment (I know sound's like a last min rush...but I really had it all worked out and planned months ago...I actually had my original appointment and stuff done on time in September..but it didn't work :guilty: ...SO she's fitting me in on her day off for a re-do :teeth: )...After that...I've got some last min errands to run...drop off a package at the post office...gas up the car....last tidy of the house...Oh...and I can't forget to change the sheets on the bed for our house sitter  ...Then we get to load the car...and head for the airport :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc YEA!!!

my husband grew up on a navy ship and after living here in orlando for many, many hurricane seasons, even if it strikes at tampa, we'll be able to leave dock. when charlie hit that area last year, it wasn't until 9pm that it came through orlando. they take a long time to move across the land. keeping my fingers crossed and faith in my husband. he's been wrong before, but this is one of those times i hope he's right.

OMG Scrapperjill- I cannot believe that you are heading off tonight!!! I guess it really is getting close though isn't it? I still need to pull out my suitcases from the crawl space and do not have nearly enough time to get everything I need done, but I guess we will manage (we always do). Ran out to the store last night for new shoes for Jim & Anthony & will probably go tonight for me & Peyton. after her dance. Boy am I glad that the World Series doesn't start until Saturday because then I wouldn't get anything packed (although I am kind of bummed that it is while we are gone)! We are going to try for 7th game tickets today!!

I am not going to let this tropical storm Wilma get me all worked up yet. I know that we will have a great time either way, but I am still keeping everything crossed.

Well, for those that are leaving soon - have a safe trip and we will see you on Deck 9 at 3:00 Saturday!!

Scrapperjill:

Bon Voyage! Can't wait to see you again! Have a safe trip down and lots of fun at WDW!

Scrapperjill, on your way to WDW if you happen to pass any speciality shops see if they can offer a special price for about 2000 rain coats and unbrella's. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Hope you have a very safe trip. :moped:

Okay...who told this...NOW...hurricane to pick up speed. The latest update shows that by 0800/Sunday it will be out in the Atlantic, passing through Florida sometime Saturday. While it's good that it should be out of the Gulf of Mexico...I'm now worried about it delaying our departure from Port Canaveral.

I'm from California...we don't do hurricanes over here. Give me an earthquake, I can handle that. Hurricanes??? I'm getting relieved about our excursions, but now concerned about our departure....any thoughts anyone.

Dang, I need to get off hurricane watch and get the dang luggage out from under the stairs. Too much work to be done...still stalling in front of this stupid machine :badpc:

Save travels to everyone leaving today. We fly out of Indy early tomorrow morning and it still hasn't hit me that the trip is finally here after a year of planning!

Wilma has made me go to WalGreens and get 2 bottles of Dramamine. I believe we will sail on Sat, be at sea on Sun and GC on Monday. Sounds like a safe plan to me. However, I'm sure the boat will be rocking!

Gotta go run last minute errands and fine a door sign.

Good luck to everyone in getting to PC and we'll see you at 3pm at the pool!
Amy

At all the sites I am looking at, the 2PM EDT maps and discussion are nearly all agreeing that it will hit Florida "late" on Saturday and will be into the Atlantic "during" Sunday. Pretty much all the computer models are now showing a very similar track (unlike yesterday) and have Wilma located either on the western edge of Cuba or in the Yucatan Channel on Friday at noon, in the middle between cuba and Florida on Saturday at noon, and out into the Atlantic on Sunday at noon.

Would DCL actually leave port early on Saturday if they thought the storm was coming in? Since we are staying at the Radisson and will be there as soon as the port opens, it wouldn't impact us, but for people who are flying in and not getting to the ship until later that could be a big deal!

If these storms slow down over land and they expect it to hit "late" Saturday on the SouthWest coast, you wouldn't think it would be a problem.....

O NO JOE, SAY IT AIN'T SO............................. :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: Maybe we can get Scottie to beam us aboard, :rolleyes1 no that won't work, they would probably get our luggage all mixed together. :confused3
How about we call DCL an have them come back in a day early, then we can get loaded and on our way.
Seriously, this could get a person depressed, :earseek: I think I need a happness pill or some Pixie Dust, or at the least a group hug. :grouphug:

Would DCL actually leave port early on Saturday if they thought the storm was coming in?

I was wondering this same thing? I would think if they think the conditions are going to deteriorate thru out the afternoon, that they may leave early. Boy am I GLAD I was able to change our flight to friday morning now!

Does anyone know if DCL has ever done a western where they went around the other side of Cuba (the long way)? That is the best plan in my opinion (I also really wanted to do Western!)

Every one leaving tomorrow, have safe travels! :flower:

right now it's supposed to hit around the keys at 2pm on saturday, and cross over the southern tip of florida. it will hit the atlantic around 2am.

i do not know if DCL has ever changed and gone around the other side, but i do know of other cruiselines that have.

living here in orlando is definitly having its advantages. we're planning on my mommy-in-law to drive us out there. however, we do have to board my puppies. i'm not looking forward to that one. they went through last years ordeals and haven't been the same since.

If you go to Fox.com and then click their weather stream video it shows the storm going right over our port at 2 am Saturday. The plain ride on Saturday might get a little bumpy. Come on Mickey, show you MAGIC :wizard:

Now that you mention it...I have heard of the ships leaving earler if weather indicated. Of course it dosn't happen offten...but it has...Earler and Later.

I think we have just about everything together...Now I just have to wait for the girls to get home from school...and Jesse to get home from work. I've got the bags by the door..gas in the car and the key given to the housesitter. :cheer2: :cheer2:

I"m thinking everything will work out fine for our cruise...if Wilma makes landfall on the western part of Flordia on Saturday... I'm hopeing by the time we board the ship..and head out to sea she'll still be making her way across land...Hitting any earler could cause us more problems with our departure...not to mention our time at WDW  ...on the other side if it's slower and takes longer in the gulf before hitting land...it could very well cause our cruise to really be re-routed.

Well I've got a few more things to take care of...before heading out :earboy2:

I posted that on the main board, but thought you guys might get a laugh out of it. Especially those of you who've already been affected by a hurricane on another cruise!

I feel bad for everyone who might once again not get to go to the Western ports of call, or at least some of them. I just hope they let me on the boat. Then they can go wherever they want! I get so nervous about packing, forgetting stuff, etc., but once I leave the house I'm fine... everything's an adventure. Whatever happens it's sure to be interesting! :)

Melissa, That's the spirit of a true adventurer, when I leave work Friday we will head for Philadelphia airport, flying out Saturday morning (hopefully) :goodvibes then if they can get us on the ship I wouldn't really care if the followed the above route, its still a vacation, and later this year when I am up to my arm pits in snow I will be able to think back of the good, WARM vacation I went on.

pdarrah...I just sent you an e-mail. Thanks for the heads up. I got it straightened out. We are back to the late seating. I agree, it will be a lot of fun.

MelissaE1... I love the DCL new itinerary. We could all use a good laugh right now. Things are looking up though.

We're leaving tomorrow night. (driving) Hopefully we're not going to be driving into a hurricane. We will be arriving Thursday evening at Disney World. (I think we should be ok.) If I get too busy with last minute details, work and taking the dog to the kennel, everyone have a safe trip to Florida. We'll see you on board.

MelissaE1: :rotfl: What a great new itinerary! I can't wait to share that one with DH!

Dyerneeds: Bon Voyage, safe travels and see you Saturday!

I think I remember hearing last year of a DCL cruise that departed early because of an impending hurricane. It was one of the cruises right before ours. It is so strange...total deja vu....to be going through the same feelings of anxiety and uncertainty in the days before our trip. Not quite as bad as last year though...there were two hurricanes, Frances and Ivan. We thought for sure we were doomed to be staying home...so sure that I didn't even pack our bags until the night before we left. This year I am much more optimistic :sunny:. I was wondering the same thing about changing course and going around Cuba. I just read a post somewhere else that a past Western cruise stopped at CC first due to a storm in the gulf. Maybe that's what we'll do. One thing is for sure, with the forecast of the storm moving into the Atlantic Sunday, the captain will hightail it south.

Hyundai: I'm passing some optimism :sunny:, pixie dust :wizard: , and a group hug onto you :grouphug: . It's going to be GREAT!!!
