If it freezes up on S3 then you've probably got an outdated BIOS. I'd just leave it alone. If it ain't broke...yada yada yada.
I'm running 4 computers on a regular basis at home. (One of which (mine) is a 550 watt monster) I like the energy savings that the S3 mode delivers.

I can agree that it is a very outdated system. Eventually we will get me a brand new one from a store and just write it off to the business but I need to show some profit for the business first. And again if it is not broke don't throw it out.

sometimes on rare occasions it comes out looking nice most other times it's just so difficult and uncooperative!
