First off, went to see Pirates 3 over the weekend. Great movie. Only one scene I thought was dragged out a little too long. Otherwise, it went quickly. For those of you who have seen it, did you remember to stay through all the credits? If not, you missed out.

Missy and I are here at work and just commenting on Jeff's counting all our posts. I can't believe that she has more than me and I got her started!!!! I need to step it up!
Is anyone doing the Pirate excursion at Grand Cayman? I am thinking about it.

We are doing the Pirate Excursion on Grand Cayman. DS did one similar in Clearwater, FL a few years back and enjoyed it. He is even more into pirates now. Here are a couple pictures we took from Seven Mile Beach last trip. We did NOT do it last time because we wanted to swim with the stingrays.

Where do we buy the trolley tickets in Key West? I think that is what we are going to do there.

We bought ours at a both right my the Pirate Souls Museum. There is a flea market right there too. Not sure of the exact street.

Has anyone done the towel or napkin folding classes on board? I think I want to do those this cruise.

We never did the classes they offer, but our room steward selected us to be her family of the week last cruise and we got a personal session with her and her boss in our room making towel animals. She showed DS how to make about 3 or 4 of them. Every once and a while Suz and I will have one on our bed at home.

How did all of our Wisconsin friends make it through the bad weather last night??? I heard it was terrible in some places.....tornados and all!

We didn't even get any rain out of that storm. It kinda split around us. We really need the rain and it won't be until around Wed or Thur next week until we get any.

Roughly what time is sunset? - will the earlies still be in dinner - do people not eat onbaord that night and eat in Key west and then go to Mallory Square? Can you get back off the ship once you've eaten?

Sunset on Oct 21st in KW will be 6:54 p.m. Now there is also civil twilight (I believe when it gets dark on land) that is 7:17 p.m. Then there is Nautical Twilight (I think this is when it gets dark at sea), that is at 7:44 p.m. Since the sun sets over the water, I don't know if the 6:54 will hold true or not.

As for when we sail, all aboard is at 7:30 p.m.

You can go off and come on the ship as much as you want, but if you are eating at 5:45, you should could finish early and head to Deck 10 to watch it.

Hello - what have we missed?????

Arrived back yesterday after a long flight. Had a fab time. Just need to write up the trip report and upload some photos.

Heather

Heather, welcome back. Glad you had a great trip. Looking forward to seeing some pics.

I picked up all of ours this morning too. I'll be reading through it after I make Kristin's B-day cake. Oooooh, Angel Food Cake with fresh strawberries and Cool Whip.

That is Suz' favorite for her b-day as well. If you get the non-fat Cool-Whip, you will fine with the diet. This also makes for a great desert any summer night.

Just wondering,

Does anyone know how old the DISboards are?

Anyone know who has the most posts and how many do they have? I think I once saw someone with over 10,000 posts.

Which thread has the most posts?

Which Cruisemeet thread has the most posts?

Thanks Cass for answering these questions.

10,000 posts by one person is not that many any more. I know Lisa (the one that Cass referred to) has a lot of posts - she is on the Repo thread - but I think I saw someone once with over 30,000 posts. I want to say in the 34k realm.

As for the Cruisemeet threads, I don't think we will get to number 1, but if we can get up in the top 10, maybe number 8, we could keep it there if we all come back every week or so.

The Aug '08 repo will be the biggest DIS Meet thread by the time it is done. They are already #1 in the number of "views".

Can anyone please explain more about Palo. I know it is more of an upscale place to eat without the kids. I have heard that it cost extra to eat there, is this true and if so how much. Is it recommened by a lot of people. I was trying to spend out money on things for the whole family but I am reading oybolshoi trip report and she makes brunch at palo sound so great. I am all about food. I have never done a brunch so I was thinking this might be the way to go. Any input would be nice.

Palo is excellent. We love both Brunch and Dinner. We have chosen Brunch only our last cruise and will again this cruise, because Dinner became the same experience for us each time. I'm not saying it is bad, just the same. I would choose dinner if I were only choosing one and it was my first time. It is very romantic and the food is far better than the dining rooms.

Am I to understand oybolshoi correctly, there are scrapbooking supplies in the shops on board. I have never scrapbooked, but the kids are all making their autographbooks and shopping for that stuff made me realize that I want to do it. So I told DH as soon as we get back I am buying up the store in supplies and going hog wild. Could I actually start on the ship, hmmmm

Yes, you can get scrapbook stuff in Treasure Ketch. As Cass said earlier, get it early. They WILL run out by the end of the cruise.

As for us going back to Palo...sorry no. The food was just too, too fancy for these Cheeseheads.:)

Too fancy of food? Did you guys get the Filet? That is pretty mainstream and delicious. Yes they have a lot of fancy stuff on the menu, but they have some straight forward things as well.

All this talk of Palos has got me thinking.

We were not going to bother with it being as its our first cruise and we didnt want to miss out on any of the menus and other restaurants, but...

if you were a first timer, which evening would you choose? We dont want to miss any themed night like Pirates or miss any of the dining rooms. (We probably wont get it anyway being as we can only book 75 days in)

Would it be best to do it on a shore night like Gran Cayman so we get to eat later? - what time do we have to be back onboard anyway? We're on early dining usually.

Also, I DO NOT eat fish/seafood at all, and I cant do meat with bones attached - is there loads of it, or is there other stuff I could eat?

Jeff gave me a link once but I cant find it anymore which gave the Palo menu. Is anyone kind enough to repost it for me?

Any thoughts are welcome...should we or shouldnt we? Which evening?

Here is the link to the Palo menus (click on Menus and you will get to all of the menus):

So Karen, are you looking for which night would be best to skip out on your tablemates? :confused3 :rotfl:

Seriously, I would choose Master Chef night (Tuesday - Grand Cayman) personally because it is my least favorite menu. Plus, it is the best night, IMO, to miss. The first 3 nights are rotational and you get to each of the 3 restaurants. Master Chef is the next night, so you would be in your first night's restaurant again (no show in AP after the first night if that is your rotation). The night after Master Chef is Pirate, then Captains Gala, then Until We Meet Again (last night with servers and tablemates - on second thought Karen, you may not want to be with your tablemates by the end :rotfl2: )

As for fish/seafood, they have many different, non-fancy items you can get.

I wouldn't worry about the 75 day issue. If it is not available, just go right to Rockin Bar D when you board and you can get a reservation.

Ok so here is the big debate in our household. We have second dinner (dose anyone know what time that will be). DH wants to do the sunset at the square. I don't. One I really don't want to spend money to eat meals on land when we have free food on the ship. Two it is Mac's B-day and I want to take her to dinner in case they do something special for her. So is it possible to do the sunset thing and be back on the ship for second dinner?

Back to Palo

Am I to understand that the brunch is a buffet? And after looking at the pictures it really does not look much different then a morning buffet at a buffet place. Am I correct or no. So here is the off the wall question. I do not drink Champagne so is it pointless to do this brunch.

I already have my FF coolwhip and I plan on just the strawberries and coolwhip and no cake. I'll leave the cake to everyone else.

I don't know, maybe it was just too early for us to eat after such a big dinner the night before. Really, all I need is a bowl of oatmeal, or some fruit and a muffin and I'm a happy camper for breakfast. I probably would have enjoyed it more if it were later in the day. I just can't eat pizza at 10:00 am. We had a phenominal server (Marcos). He wouldn't let us leave until we tried his pizza. We are both just really simple eaters. Not small eaters...just simple.:lmao:

I'm thinking we might skip Master Chef night in the dining room and opt for Topsiders for dinner that night. Jo and Danny (Perdidobay) Chuck and myself decided to try Topsiders for dinner one night. We had a fabulous turkey dinner. If you plan on doing this one night, plan on bringing some cash for the tip as you won't have your regular servers.

I wouldn't worry about the 75 day issue. If it is not available, just go right to Rockin Bar D when you board and you can get a reservation.

That's exactly what we had to do Karen. We could not get Palo dinner over the internet for our first cruise either. We did get brunch though. We headed right over to Rockin' Bar D and got dinner. (We did end up cancelling them though because of our simple taste.)

Carrie, it is also Stacy's (our FDIL) birthday on Oct 21st except she'll be 25 rather than 5.

www.castawayclub.com is a great site for menus for all the restaurants

We are definately going to try and get Palo reservations - I catn wait for the Souffle

Thank you:thumbsup2

All this talk of Palos has got me thinking.:scratchin Any thoughts are welcome...should we or shouldnt we? Which evening?

I'm not impressed with the Souffle. I prefer Tiramisu. The polenta with mushroom was also good.

First off, went to see Pirates 3 over the weekend. Great movie. Only one scene I thought was dragged out a little too long. Otherwise, it went quickly. For those of you who have seen it, did you remember to stay through all the credits? If not, you missed out.

We saw it in California, and thought it was great, even if it was 3hrs long.

Done the napkin folding and it was alot of fun. It should be on a sea day.

Heather

I want to do this pirate excursion as well. I think that it will be fun. I understand that it is pretty short, so I was going to try to squeeze it in with a submarine voyage.
Does anyone know how to schedule to pirate excursion?

I was thinking about Palos. I'm not sure when to have dinner as well! I don't want to miss the first animators palate day (that's when they do the show) and I don't know what our rotation will be. I may just decide to do a Brunch. I thought 7days would be enough! Silly Me!

I thought that KW was a late sailing (~2130)
We're thinking of skipping KW all together. Might want to just enjoy a quiet day at the ships pools instead!

After reading through my new cruise pack yesterday, I decided to add our Cozumel Dune Buggy Excursion to my wish list on MyDisneyCruise.com.

After I entered it, I noticed the price was around $85.00.:scared1: In my copy of the Passporter (the most recent one issued) it says that the price is $47.00.

I was hoping the $85.00 was because my reservation is for two people. If not, yikes!! that's one huge difference between the two. I zipped off an email to Disney to find out what the price is per person.

I haven't heard anything yet, but just a word of caution to all of you who are depending on the price of excursions in the Passporter. Last cruise I used the passporter and the prices were right on. I guess if it's not a Disney issued book, don't depend on the prices.

HOLY COW!!! That's too much for my blood!! Looks like we have to look for something else.:guilty:

Just thought I'd jump in and put my 2 cents in...

Mike and I have been busy taking care of his parents and planting flowers. Whew!

We went to palo's several years ago. It has changed a lot since then. They used to have only a few selections on the menu. Mike ordered Lamb (he'd never had it before) and didn't like it. The waiter offered to go down to the freezer and got him Filet Mignon (which wasn't on the menu). It took a little while, but it was good. It was nice to have dinner alone though.

Maybe it's just us, but we weren't all that impressed. It sounds like it has changed for the better. I guess Disney learned over the years.

Robin

Feeling a little sick tonight  after watching Roger Federer lose the French Open. Why oh why can't he pull it together at that event??

As far as Palo is concerned:

We are hoping to do the brunch. We don't want to miss any of the dinners with our kids and it looks like brunch is my only chance to get CRAB LEGS!!

On our last cruise (Holland) I had crab legs any chance I could. Once they were served cold at lunch as a starter--the server knew how much I loved them and brought me a gigantic platter of them for my entree.

Can anyone answer the following???

My in-laws live in Florida and will be bringing us to the Port. Is there a place that they can drop us off? Will they have to pay for parking or is there a quick drop-off point like at some airports?? Thanks!

CRAB LEGS!!!!!!!!

I am so...There.

Hey Carrie...

just some food for thought --- oh the pun --- :rotfl2:

Anyway, Palo's dinner menu is certainly based on Northern Italian cuisine but it is not standard Italian fare like you would normally see here in the US and there is actually a wide variety of items to choose from.

I would really encourage you and the hubby to go because it's a lovely romantic setting with no one under 18, the service is incredible, even for DCL, your food will not be prepared until you order it, so it is extra fresh and yummy, and...

if you don't go for dinner you will miss out on the chocolate souffle!!! :scared1:

If you've never been I think you should at least give it a try, just to form your own opinion.

Just my two cents. :goodvibes

I think you should also give it a try. I don't like chocolate but actually tried and loved the chocolate souffle!!

Hey,

Does anyone know if there are crab legs on the seafood buffet the first day?
Or will I have to settle for shrimp. ;)

Ok so here is the big debate in our household. We have second dinner (dose anyone know what time that will be). DH wants to do the sunset at the square. I don't. Second seating time will depend on your rotation (found on your Key to the World Card = KTTW). If you have APL, you have 8:00; PLA is 8:15 and LAP is 8:30. For those of you on early, it would be 5:30, 5:45 and 6:00, respectively.

Back to Palo

Am I to understand that the brunch is a buffet? And after looking at the pictures it really does not look much different then a morning buffet at a buffet place. Am I correct or no. So here is the off the wall question. I do not drink Champagne so is it pointless to do this brunch.

Who knows about the hi tea?

The brunch, even though mostly buffet, is much better than Topsiders or Parrot Cay. You can order some items from the chef, both breakfast type and lunch/dinner type items. I got a great piece of steak and a chicken thingy (I think that was the official name of it :rotfl: ) made to order (not one of the normal offerings, they put a little of two different things together for me. People around me liked how it looked and ordered the same thing).

As for tea, we did this two cruises ago. It is $5.00 each service charge and they have a ton of different teas to drink (I'm not a tea drinker, so I ordered something from the bar). I only went so Suz wasn't alone. They have some finger sandwiches and some other little items.

I already have my FF coolwhip and I plan on just the strawberries and coolwhip and no cake. I'll leave the cake to everyone else.

Good girl. :thumbsup2 I went to a graduation party today and unless I hit the treadmill every morning this week, I don't know if I want to weigh myself this Friday. :scared1:

And if some people would stop multi-posting only.

Kettle called, says it is still black. :rotfl2:

I don't know, maybe it was just too early for us to eat after such a big dinner the night before. You must have only gone for brunch and not dinner? You should try the dinner if you haven't yet.

Maybe if Karen and Neil and Suz and I skip we could do a mini-dis meet over dinner in Topsiders that night. :thumbsup2 Although, I think Karen is already trying to get away from her tablemates. :sad1:

That's exactly what we had to do Karen. We could not get Palo dinner over the internet for our first cruise either. We did get brunch though. We headed right over to Rockin' Bar D and got dinner. (We did end up cancelling them though because of our simple taste.)

As I said above, go to dinner. You can get a really good cut of beef and some other excellent items. Check out the menu.

I want to do this pirate excursion as well. I think that it will be fun. I understand that it is pretty short, so I was going to try to squeeze it in with a submarine voyage. Does anyone know how to schedule to pirate excursion?

You would book it like any other excursion when you are able to. We, or should I say Suz, wants to do the island tour after it and then go to the beach. I think it will be too much crammed in that day.

I thought that KW was a late sailing (~2130)
We're thinking of skipping KW all together. Might want to just enjoy a quiet day at the ships pools instead!

I was going off our navigators from January as well as the October one on Castaway Club.

I was thinking of coming back on board early so we can enjoy a quiet time at the pool too.

Since I switched an Eastern to this cruise, and haven't gotten an updated itinerary from DCL, I don't have the exact times. I do know my itin for January had a different time on it, but we did indeed sail at 7:30.

As far as Palo is concerned:

We are hoping to do the brunch. We don't want to miss any of the dinners with our kids and it looks like brunch is my only chance to get CRAB LEGS!!

CRAB LEGS!!!!!!!!

I am so...There.

Steve,

Wanna go together and have a crab leg-eating contest? My husband (weirdo) won't touch them! :confused3

I'll join you guys for the crab legs. I remember a few years back, our best friends and us would go to a restaurant in Oconomowoc that had all you could eat crab legs. Jim and I must have pollished off a couple of dozen pounds of legs each time we went. They definitely lost money on us that night (only $14.99 or $17.99 each).

Does anyone know if there are crab legs on the seafood buffet the first day?

Or will I have to settle for shrimp. ;)

If memory serves me, you will have to suffer though shrimp instead. I do have to say, the salmon on the embarkment buffet is great.

Can anyone answer the following???

My in-laws live in Florida and will be bringing us to the Port. Is there a place that they can drop us off? Will they have to pay for parking or is there a quick drop-off point like at some airports?? Thanks!

Yes, they can pull right up with out paying. Where most of us will be standing waiting for the terminal to open is right along the main road to the other terminals there. Just go down to the intersection and hang a "U-ey".
