Good evening Chris. Just got on here and am catching up. people have been chatty today.

Has anyone been to WDW in August? How are the crowds? the heat and the hurricanes don't bother us........(did I just type that?)

We've been there in August. It's been several years, but I'm sure it hasn't changed much.

Look forward to heat, humidity and crowds. :headache: And the normal afternoon shower.

We always hit the parks early, then left after lunch and went back to our room to swim, then went back to the parks about 5:00 all refreshed. (Otherwise, it's a killer.) It's easy to do since the parks stay open later in the summer.

Robin

We are planning to leave WDW around 8:30 - 9:00 on that Sat morning. How are you getting there. We are hiring a Town car service.

I thought the English, and most Europeans for that matter, didn't do deodorant. Do I need to update my stereotypes? :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Hi Brenda. I'm glad you had a fun trip. Can't wait to hear more about it.

Normally Rob brings a suit, two shirts and two ties. Wears the jacket and tie for formal and no jacket with tie for semi-formal. However, this trip I have convinced him to get a tux, since we will be taking WAY more luggage this time, with less hands to carry said luggage! I am still nervous as heck thinking about just exactly how we are going to manage:

1. Kira
2. Full size stroller
3. Big awkward Car seat
4. Big, heavy laptop case
5. Carry-on with 2 cameras and 1 video camera with extra batteries, cards etc.
6. Carry-on with a few of our things and tons of Kira's stuff for plane.
7. 4-5 large suitcases

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Somebody needs to invent a Star Trek-like transporter!!!! Beam us to Florida Scotty!

I understand traveling with little ones. Although by the third you just put them in the vehicle with one diaper and a baggie of wipes and know you can buy everything else you might need.:rotfl2:
Just pack everything you think you need then go back and take out 3/4 of it. That seem to work for us.:lmao:

Paige, it's been about 10 years since we hit WDW in August and I just have to say based on those two visits (1996 and 1997) Jay and I have vowed never to do it again at that time of year.

Granted, those visits were prior to the FastPass system implementation, but it was miserably hot and humid and the parks were packed.

I would venture to guess that the "free dining" Disney has offered during August and September during the last few years would only amplify what we experienced from a crowd standpoint.

I understand that people can only go to WDW when they can go but we will never go again during the summer. I'm not even sure we'd go back at the end of May just based on the crowds we saw last week. I think we'll stick with October. :thumbsup2

I'm with ya on that one B. We went in the middle of May last year and it was too stinkin' hot and humid. Not the type of weather I fancy.

I'd agree on the October thing though. Much nicer weather.

Funny thing is that I just told Chuck that I want to go in March next time. Seems like the crowds will be at a minimum and the weather will be nicer for me.

And what's this about free dining?

I was having a problem coming up with my favorite Disney restaurant last week because we have NEVER dined in any of them. Nope not one. Unless, you can consider the Earl of Sandwich a Disney Dining adventure. I do crave the jerk chicken sandwiches there but it is the only one we ever ate at. I think we are missing out. I never eat at the parks because of a few health issues, so I wait until we leave to eat. Then it's usually Fridays, Bennigans, Applebees, Planet Hollywood, The Rainforest at DTD, or the food court at Caribbean Beach.

We had friends go last labor day and did the free dining. They said there was no one there. They loved the dining program.

I see a lot of people (myself included) worried or motivated rather to get in better shape or lose some pounds before trip. If anyone uses excel and wants to try a worksheet I created for this stuff I would be happy to email it. I am not sure if I can post it somewhere for download.

My wife and I go to Mexico every February and she wanted a guide on workouts, diet, colories and such to track her progress. She hates writing things on paper for tracking them cuz the kids always steal her pens and paper

It's about 6 pages and pretty well organized. Years of working out with my friend who is a doctor and fitness trainer helped in writing the formulas and code. Here is what it looks like (if your browser resizes your images - it's easier to see them if you download them or turn resize off)

Page -1 (asks basic info, height, age, weigth and such and desired weight loss) it spits out the calories you should be consuming and allows you to adjust whether you work out or not. Most of the work is done for you and it works for both men and women.
http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb186/jerkfaced/Page1.jpg

Page -2 Carries you into the second month moving all of your info and showing you your hopeful weigh-ins each week.
http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb186/jerkfaced/Page2-Month2.jpg

Page -3 Carries you into the final month (I wrote it for 90 days) and shows your final weigh in. Each of these pages allow you to adjust your workouts.
http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb186/jerkfaced/Page3-Month3.jpg

Page -4 Just a calorie summary, it takes the information from page 1 and tells you what calories you should consume to maintain your bdy weigth daily as well it tells you how many calories you should consume to hit your target or goal by day 90.
http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb186/jerkfaced/Page4-calories.jpg

Page -5 The scary page, a place for you to check the things you ate during the entire day - merely change the quantity of items you eat and snacks and it tallies everything up, fiber, calories, fat, carbos and spits it in a total at bottom where you can compare it against the amounts that you should be consuming based on your own workouts and body type and lifestyle. Someday I will put chocolate cake on here, for now it has a lot of what I eat on it. I would be happy to add common items on this page though. I do have cheeseburgers and tacos and pizza in the naughty section :thumbsup2
http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb186/jerkfaced/Page5-diet.jpg

Page -6 The workouts page, just put a 1 for workout or zero for day off and it spits in some default values and tallies it up, if you have accurate numbers from your treadmill or such you can go back and manually enter those values. It keeps a running total and daily average for you regarding your calories, distance and time. This page is hard to read but actual page is much clearer.

Hope all that shows up correctly and again, happy to share it with anyone who can use it - it's a work in progress. Any suggestions would help a bunch too. I've yelled at the screen a bunch trying to get the formulas and code hashed out, everything seems to work great now. :badpc:

I do a lot on excel. Sounds good to me. Maybe it'll keep me honest.

I have to say October is so much nicer. When we cruised in Oct. 05, the weather was perfect. (We were so excited, because we usually went to WDW at xmas or in the summer for 2 weeks. Heat and crowds.) Hurricane Wilma came... our cruise was diverted and when we got to WDW (after the cruise) everyone who lived near the coast had moved to hotels inland and went to WDW. The crowds compared to the summer crowds. :headache:

I guess we weren't so lucky on that trip. :sad2:

So, we're giving it another shot. :woohoo:

Robin

Karen--Rob graduates on the 15th. I'll try to post a pic. It may take a while because by then I will be in temporary housing, so I don't know how much internet access we'll have.:thumbsup2

Let the good times roll!!!:cool1:

The reason I ask about August is for our trip in 08 we will get annual passes and to get the most out of them, I will want to return to WDW in 09 before they expire........So I was thinking about going late summer 08, then earlier summer in 09. We are pulling our kids out of school in Oct for the cruise, but I don't want to do it again if I don't have to. With the kids getting older, their homework and school lessons are more difficult, and the school they are going to is very challenging. They are probably up to the challenge, but I don't think I will be........:rotfl2:
