October 2015 Car Rental Watch

Bleh....Just added a day to our reservation...feel like I've been sucker punched by the high school bully. (Don't ask how I know what that feels like). :crutches:

I'm sorry for laughing but that's kind of funny. Sort of. That's how I felt when I added a day to my reservation last month.

Why not simply keep the extra day in a separate reservation to keep the whole thing from repricing.

I swear, I wouldda SOOOO taken him..So what if he was the All State Linebacker....ME?...I was the All State TROMBONE player!!!

I tried that last year, and spent almost an hour dealing with the friendly Alamo folks at MCO. We are gonna be on a very tight schedule when we land in Orlando next month, and have an Autistic son in tow, so those delays can really be testy. I may grip about the pricing a bit, but "peace" in our clan is worth a pretty penny!

What I meant was pick up your initial reservation as planned and simply go back to the airport, return it and pickup a next car for the extra day needed. Once you tell them upon returning that your renting the same car class again, they'll let you keep your original car if you want. A simple process.

Also Alamo at MCO is a bypass location. Simply do Online Check-in then do Bypass Ticket Check-in. No need to deal with any staff/kiosks. Simply head straight to the car.

Ok 3 weeks out, and prices are still almost $100 more than my reservation from several months ago. I'm thinking I got the best so far. Hoping there's some last minute ones that beat my much earlier.

Check your rates everybody! Budget is down!

I just got a full size car for 8 days for $138 taxes included.

Edited to add.....no codes or special coupons used. I just ran my dates on carrentalsavers.com , and it automatically applied a $25 coupon to the weekly rate.

What are your dates?

Rates for my time 10/13-10/20 are still high, hopefully in a couple weeks they will lower, but $155 Alamo is acceptable if not.

Thanks for the reminder to check rates. Mine just dropped, again!

Costco Travel / Alamo
10/26 - 11/4
TPA
Standard SUV
$356.74

I have a question too -
On the Costco Travel website it lists, going down the page like they have it, Economy Car, Compact Car, Intermediate Car, Standard Car, Fullsize Car, Premium Car, Intermediate SUV, Standard SUV ...

The Intermediate SUV is more expensive but is listed before the Standard SUV. The Intermediate is Toyota Rav 4, or similar, and the Standard is Hyundai Santa Fe or similar. Is there much difference? Is one considered more luxury than the other?

We've been car shopping and doing a lot of test driving lately. I'd personally put a Rav 4 and a Santa Fe in the same class.

ETA: And I checked my rates for October 15-24, and they're still over $100 more than the rate I booked at in July.

I think a Santa Fe holds more luggage....atleast that's the differences - I would get the cheaper/bigger option for sure!

Definitely WAY DOWN today! Glad to shave a significant chunk off our rate! :love1:

That price is kinda high for just a standard SUV.

The Santa Fe is slightly wider, longer and has a more powerful engine with a better transmission. Overall a better ride.

Try Dollar and Thrifty, using the code FIX09 or FIXLO, one try I had to call to use for Sanford, the other it went in okay. $139 for CRV, $149 for Chev Equanox. With the Equanox, a one week two hrs it came to $231.07 total all fees. I think dollar was 800-800-4000. That's much more then the Malibu I held a long time ago.

WOW, hit Alamo, go to the tabs for Deals, there are last minute specials, the last colum and will take the $30 code off too.

AD2338FDF $30 off there were cars from $89-115, up to the $175 week for the 7 passenger minivan before the coupon!

I used Insiders Club
Last Minute Special $175
Code AD2338fdf $30 off
Total $199 mini van

Down again today for me. My 8 day rental of a full size from October 10 to 17 is now $133.01 including all taxes and fees.

I ran rates through carrentalsavers.com again this morning, and it applied a $30 coupon to the Budget rates versus the $25 one from yesterday.

Cue the limbo music ..... "How low will they go"?!??
