October 2015 Car Rental Watch

Can you explain in more detail how to get this rate? I am an Alamo insider and I sign in, see the deals tab on the top of the page and click on it but there is no where to input the coupon code when I do a search for prices through that tab. Am I missing something?

It was odd how I got there. I hit the deals, and it showed me the rate for the minivan and I clicked on it. The full price for the special showed. I didn't see the deal so I tried to edit the van, that didn't give me a discount entry but I then scrolled under the car special choices, hit the back prompt. The page came up with the dates, times and it had the boxes for the specials. The last minute special ID corp was prefilled in, I entered the box above it; AD2338FDF
Then when I entered again it updated taking the $30 off the total.

Check your rates everybody! Budget is down!

I just got a full size car for 8 days for $138 taxes included.

Edited to add.....no codes or special coupons used. I just ran my dates on carrentalsavers.com , and it automatically applied a $25 coupon to the weekly rate.

$127.15 all in. Budget Full size. Went and got the USAA $35 off weekly coupon code from CRS; then went directly to Budget and popped the code in with our dates. Never used Budget before, signed up and got a rapidrez number (does that make me automatically have fastbreak?). I've heard to save my gas receipt proving I filled up...anything else I need to be aware of re Budget? I'd love to skip the counter stuff - hopefully Fastbreak allows me to do that. Looks like I have some researching to do...
Shout out to Gina (almost identical time frame) and Janet (didn't know about USAA codes)...Thanks.
Bob.

Hey Janet,

Great rates!!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Would you mind sharing the $35 coupon code? I am going to try and see if I can use it with my current reservation (which would drop me down another $5 from what I have now).

Thanks bunches! :goodvibes

I just got the $35 coupon and when I look at my reservation it lists the code as: MUGZ165

However, when I tried plugging that code directly into Budget's website it didn't give the lower price which I thought was odd. I had no problems booking it at carrentalsavers with my RapidRez number though and the reservation showed up in my account right away when I logged directly into Budget's site.

Thanks Starshine. I see that the coupon is related to USAA, so I'll take a pass on it and stay with my $30 off. But I appreciate you sending me along the coupon details....hopefully someone else who is a member will be able to take advantage of the extra savings thanks to your post :) .

You're welcome! And for anyone else who may be reading, it's free to join USAA (I just joined today so I could use the coupon! :rotfl:) It will ask you for a military affiliation, but if you answer "No" all the way through it will tell you that you can still join and be eligible for limited benefits, one of which is the ability to use the discounts. :)

Oh, and I ended up with an intermediate for $122 total 10/3 - 10/11.

Good to know :thumbsup2. As a non-resident of the USA, I'm pretty sure we still wouldn't qualify....but its good info for my American friends!

don't forget the 'free' extra family driver benefit too. DH was military, we are 'real' members:-), good rates on insurance & CCs too.

Going on a pretty short trip to Florida (MCO) and need a rental, car size doesn't matter from 10/28 (730am) w/ a do of 10/30 (500pm) . tried nurmous coupons, Costco, nothing at all is decent. I would rather reserve at an in terminal rental place All I could find is fox rental on carrentalsavers.com for 67 which made is 15.65 a day for 3 days. (which kind of sucks cause its 2.5 days) anyone know of any deals out there for a couple days?.

Checked out the Deals tab on Alamo. Renting from Alamo from Tampa 10/16-10/25 (10 days) best price on minivan $1,470.46!!!!!!
Costco rates $1,734 Avis, $1689 Budget, and $1363 Enterprise! Total robbery!
:crazy2::crazy2::crazy2::crazy2::crazy2::crazy2:

:sad2: I feel for you, especially as I'm seeing vans available to me for $368.

I do see Advantage has a van for $577.48 ($529 if you pay now) and Alamo has a Tahoe for $653 and a Suburban for $794, if you aren't afraid of SUV's. The Suburban would work better for 7/8 persons and luggage.

That's actually a pretty good price for 3 days. You aren't staying over a Saturday night so you have zero chance of using any coupons besides upgrade coupons. Every other agency is double the price of Fox. I'd book it now to secure it and see if you can find a better deal and i doubt it without a Saturday night stay. Maybe bid on priceline.

The low, low Budget rates are gone this morning.....everything for my dates seems to have reset back to "normal" ($200+).

Yeah the minivan rates I'm seeing are disgusting.

Yep...Back to "Legal Price Gouging"...Up $90-ish today for mine. I'm happy with what I got though...just playing the usual Rental Car Rate Roulette . :jester:

Thanks. It didn't work for me when I tried your method. Does anyone know if I check in online with Alamo and go directly to the garage to pickup my vehicle, when do I pay for it? Do I pay when I return it or before? And if its before is there a way to pay for it in the garage? I would rather just avoid the checkout counter.
