October 2015 Car Rental Watch

Joining in. Best I can get on Alamo is $175 for midsize. That's still high. Dates are 10/17-24, pick up in Tampa, drop off in MCO.

I just booked Alamo, Oct 20-27 Mid sized SUV, for $199, all in. (used Costco website, I am a member).

I am pretty happy with this, if it goes down, great, but this is fair.

Sharona, I did NOT want the Equinox, since DH drives one (it's an old one though). They only had the Hummer, and Equinoxes, and maybe something else that smelled slightly smokey. The Equinox was new though, only about 1000 miles, and fairly loaded.

It was fine but not "fun".

Just booked 7 passenger minivan 6 days Oct. 22-27 thru Alamo for $214.50, additional driver included using the above contract and coupon codes. This was actually $10 cheaper than when I had checked yesterday so I plan on checking often to see if it keeps coming down. If anyone has any problems using these at pickup please let us know. Thanks.

Could you please tell me where you see the additional driver info in the reservation? I used the code but don't see an additional driver mentioned. Thanks! (I'm a librarian, too.)

I tried the old KLM code (8572130) for my National rental at SFB for October and was surprised to find that it worked. It has not worked for me at TPA or MCO recently. Got a 7 passenger minivan for 11 days I think it was about $380 (I hadn't put in a coupon yet at this time). I took it for now since I have signed up for the KLM flying blue program. I am still hoping for rentals to go down before we go. Surprisingly, I often get my best rate from Priceline shortly before we leave.

In my confirmation email under "Your rate" in the list of charges: Additional driver - INCLUDED
Further down it does say we will have to go to the counter to add the driver. Cannot check in online and go straight out to the cars as we have done in the past with Alamo. (Sorry so late getting back to you. I'm a public librarian so I was at work today.)

Rates for my dates have bounced back up again. We are still holding a reservation for $161 (8 days with Alamo standard/fullsize) but both Dollar and Alamo are currently at over $200.

Hey, thanks for mentioning booking on the Costco website. I've tried all these codes mentioned without finding a great rate. After seeing your post, I went to Costco's website and tried booking there. I got 9 days from October 15-24th for $188 all in. WOOT! I had been finding nice and cheep "weekly" rates, but the extra days & fees were killing me. Thanks so much!

2nd driver free too, with Costco. And I like just walking out and picking my car, jumping in, and driving to the exit. No lines.

My 8 day rental is finally down below $200. I currently have a standard reserved at Alamo for $196.74 including tax.

Used the following from Car Rental Savers:

NEW! Alamo Coupon, Free Day through 2015! Get a free day on your next weekly rental - use Alamo coupon code AF5365ODH. Valid on 5 day rental of Compact through Full Size Car , use for rental pickup by 12/31/15. A Saturday night keep is required. Blackouts may apply, no printout required, not valid in Manhattan. Coupon applied to total price.

EXTENDED! Alamo Discount, up to 20% off nationwide! For up to 20% off use Alamo contract ID 7014926. Valid for rental pickup by 12/31/15. No printouts required, blackouts may apply.

I am trying to check rates to see if I can get any lower using these codes. I had gotten $155 for midsize 10/13 to 10/20 using these codes. But, for the past several days whenever I try to check prices using them I get an error message saying they encountered an unexpected error processing my request and that I can call. Anyone else have this problem with these codes? Maybe they are all booked up with those codes?

I have been getting that same error message for quite a while now....about 2 weeks.

I am pretty sure these codes are the ones applied to smart book on carrentalsavers.com . That's where I have been checking rates while the Alamo site is having issues. My dates have gone up substantially, though.....I am at $161 including tax for a standard/full size (8 days), while current Alamo rates are $235.

Just booked Dollar City Special Pay now $366 all in for a mini van in Tampa 10 days. That rate dropped from $403 so hey $40 in my pocket is better than theirs. This is the best rate I have seen for a mini van for 10 days

There's been a big spike UP today in rates for my dates. A full size is now anywhere from $250 to $300....way, way more than the $161 I'm currently sitting at.

Wondering if this is the big jump before a steady plunge downward :scratchin .

wish I could get those rates through Costco! It's over $200 for the 18th-25th for me. I have a reservation sitting at $144, but need the extra driver. :(

We're just over 10 weeks away from our depature now.....and anxiously waiting for some downward trends in pricing.

Surely my $161 8-day rental with Alamo...booked WEEKS ago....is not the lowest rates will go!!

Heck GinaB....that's less than my 5 day in mid October! I'm not gonna sweat it too much, but I do like the feeling I get when the rental agent sez "Dang, you got a great rate on your rental! "
I'll keep checking like always.

My May rental, same amount of days/time, was only $145....Canadian. So now I'm a greedly little shrew and I want to meet or beat that for October :teeth: .

Just got a md-size from Dollar for $84 (163 with taxes) for 10/31 thru 11/7 out of Tampa. Check the city specials. They have mid-size SUV's for $139!
