October 2013 - Car Rental

I am going to have to try the KLM code again. I had to cancel my original reservation when we changed our dates.

I am also too nervous about Firefly. One of the things we like about Alamo is that we can pick out our car. I am very sensitive to smells and there is no way I could drive in a funky car all week. I am not sure how Firefly would deal with such a situation.

KLM National code is second cheapest for us after Firefly and I would like to keep it because we like picking out our own car too - need as much back seat and trunk room as possible!

A little concerned how Firefly will handle tolls. Seems like the discount rental places are charging an opt out fee more and more? Wondering if they will too.

I was able to book an SUV through Alamo for Sept 30-Oct 9 for $244 today. A mid size was only $10 cheaper, so I figured I might as well take the extra space and drive what I'm more comfortable in. I'll keep checking as it gets closer, and the coupon codes come out, but I'm ok with that rate. Now I'm sure my DH will decide that we should stay for Columbus weekend and that will totally screw up my plans!

Coupon is at capacity from my dates. :(

Same here oct 23-30

Same here for Oct 19-26

Alamo has always been our go to rental agency but this new coupon capacity thing is getting to be too much.

Same here - 10/26-11/5.

So far the KLM code with National is the best for me. (I'm too nervous of the Firefly deal:worried:)

Same here too! 18-27th

Hmmm... we booked through the Disney Car Care Center (rental 10/18-10/25), so the same/overlapping time period as many of you, so maybe it's just not working for rentals at MCO? That's crazy!

The KLM rate at National was $30 cheaper than Alamo with a free upgrade for my dates. It is still $200 for the week for a midsize. Crazy!

That's most likely why...

yep, I just ran the numbers @ dolphin & car care center and coupon is working there, however, the rate is double what I already have booked @ MCO w/o the $30 coupon

interesting appears as MCO is blocking anything but upgrade coupons for good part of October.:confused3

I just booked Firefly for minivan for one week 10/8-14 total $271. I spent a good portion of yesterday looking for prices and the best I could come up with was AAA at Thrifty for $312. I'll keep both until I'm sure its a terminal pick-up.

I see alot on this thread about tolls and rental cars...not sure what the issue is though? Are there significant toll charges getting from MCO to I-Drive?

Just rebooked my rate with Costco travel.
Got a Budget full size 10/18-28. PU at TPA, DO at MCO, down to $249+ (was $287). Check your rates! :thumbsup2

Posted on Budgets website. I got an intermediate SUV for $204 for a week :cool1:

economy or compact - $17/weekend day and $119/week

intermediate SUV - $22/weekend day $139/week

No, there are not significant tolls between MCO and I'drive/I4/WDW/Universal area. It's a few bucks each way.

People get worried because the car rental companies make us think the tolls are big AND that we can't pay cash. In the WDW/Uni/MCO area, however, you can. It's those heading to Miami, really, who have to worry about it (and maybe in Northern FL too?) inside Florida.

Great, thanks. I keep seeing things about hidden fees for opting out of the SunPass ($9.99/day, or $15 opt out) which I think is ridiculous. But then I also see that there are spots where you should exit to not encounter unmanned tolls, and hoping that you can still pay in cash? It's been 18 years since I lived in Orlando, 13 years since I visited last. I'm a little nervous that by saving $$ on a rental car might actually make things worse and ding us with more.

I wonder where you're reading those things. Are you just going to be in the airport/WDW/Universal area? There are many tollbooths that are manned and you can get change and a receipt. There are some tolls that are unmanned and therefore need exact change and obviously don't give a receipt. It's no big deal.

I haven't heard of a sunpass opt-out charge.

When driving from the airport on 417 we can either hit 2 manned and 1 unmanned toll, or we can exit after the 2nd manned toll and skip the 50 cents or whatever for the unmanned. We are semi-likely to do that simply because once the digital counter for an unmanned toll *seemed* to be wonky, so as we paid the toll a *second* time I took pictures of the counter going towards zero then jumping back up to the total without actually hitting ZERO. It made us nervous. So we tend to avoid that. But it's 50 or 75 cents difference.

Thanks for this! SUV was $202 for my week. National with the KLM code was the same but for an intermediate car.

Still no luck for me.. Good rate for full size with Alamo. But I need a minivan. I am really leaning towards Priceline if things don't go down by oct 1st. Or my next hope is dollar runs a minivan special, but I don't like the 10 fee per day for extra driver. This is really getting on my nerves!

Guess I need to start watching this thread. I've yet to book my October rental mostly because I've not booked my airfare yet. I have to say October is my worst time for booking travel arrangements. We plan to arrive on Oct. 16 to Nov. 2, but if airfare doesn't get better we may move it up to Oct. 15th to Nov. 2. Are there any good National coupons out there. The only one I have is a $30 NDA2324BR.

Budget has a deal link on their homepage which leads to code D454301

I just priced an intermediate SUV roundtrip to MCO from 10/24 (late evening pick up) - 10/30 (evening drop off) and the rate, incl taxes and fees was $202.09.

Thank You.

I rented from DTD location (pick up and drop off), still able to do Magical Express, for 10/18-10/23 Compact for $161.64. No need to worry about tolls.
