Marathon Weekend 2027

I have a PoT for a half at 2:22:06. Based on the chart, that puts me in D, correct?
Yes, barely. It's close enough that I would consider submitting in case they adjust the thresholds but I'd expect to end up in D. Worth noting: they do not publish this information, which is unfortunate, because some people will submit POTs that don't fall in the threshold and if it's far enough outside that threshold they sometimes get penalized for it (one example: I've seen someone submit a 2:31 half, that absolutely won't convert to under 5:00 for a full and shouldn't be submitted). This one is close enough that in some conversion calculations it falls under 5:00 so IMO RD shouldn't penalize that.

SAFD: Oh the love/hate cycle of running shoes. Started my running journey in NB 860 after being fitted because I pronate. Over a thousand dollars later in orthopedist and PT visits, they convinced me my stability shoes were a huge factor in my ITBand issues. Tried a couple of other things and settled on ghost max 3, thought being it had the super wide base for stability but my actual muscles/legs could do what they wanted. Ran my marathon in them….ITBand pain better but still is a sneaky butt kicker. After taking a month off, found myself back at the running store. In aiscs gel cumulus 27. So far, really like them. Have been doing a lot of treadmill runs though, so need to get some road time in. BUT…they are going away. New model is coming out. Grrr. Soooo….bought 2 more pairs because..well, you know why. Figured at the very least, I can walk in them!

I'm at this point too, I think. I was planning to skip W&D this year but the Mary Poppins medal got me running the Half. Doing Dopey again because... I don't know! I swore I was a one and done and still can't believe I signed up with a charity to do this again. 🤪 For 2028 I am passing on Princess and Springtime to run the LA Marathon. I have my fingers crossed for NYC Marathon as well.
The NYC Marathon is the best race I’ve ever run. Fingers crossed for you.

For me, I had the realization that what I was spending on one Disney marathon weekend would net me 2-3 race weekends elsewhere in the country.

SAFD: I’ve been happily in Saucony Triumphs for a LONG time now but this newest model is absolutely shredding my feet! I’ve never had an issue with blisters but WOW—-I think I had them on every toe and both the inside AND outside of my feet. Bizarre.

So……happily reading all these posts to get some ideas for a dif shoe going forward!

Where are have the POT parameters been shared? My times have suffered a bit in the last 1.5 years, but then I remembered I have a (barely) sub-2 half from June 2024 that should net me a nice corral placement.

SAFD: I wasn't particularly brand loyal on shoes for the longest; I just bought whatever latest model felt best on my feet. When Morton's Neuroma started in mid 2023, I started using Hoka Cliftons and they did the job of letting my train for and complete the MCM. I've used them ever since and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. (First rule of engineering: If it works, don't mess with it).
That said, the MW Brooks Ghost shoes have proven to be super comfortable for miles of walking in the parks.
As for MW 2027: my ex was a huge Donald Duck fan. I think coming home with a Donald-themed medal (even more-so than usual) may get my DS to come run MW with me.

SAFD: I started with the NB 860’s and have never really had a problem with them, although I never seem to get as many miles out of them as I would like. I branched out to the Saucony Guides (don’t remember the version) and I like them for a daily wear for work but not so much for mileage. The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 23’s were awesome. I had 3 pairs but they are all worn out now. I thought the 24’s would probably fit fine and ordered a pair without ever trying them on. Big mistake. I could not get them to work and they just caused corns to develop on the outside edges of both feet. 😡 The 25’s are no better.

2 weeks before MW I decided I had to do something and went and got a new version of the 860’s and the Guides. The 860’s are great and I did the Marathon in them without an issue. The Guides are ok but they have this weird angle cut into the back of the heel. I will probably use them for easy low mileage days but never for a race.

As for MW themes I hope they live up to the hype. The problem is now I am actually considering trying for Goofy even though I really dislike the HM route. I’ve already secured a 10K bib through a charity so doing Dopey is out. I guess it will all depend on what is available if/when I get through to registration. If Goofy is available I will probably go for it but if it isn’t then it’ll just be the M. The Goofy medal with Donald has me intrigued and there is some FOMO for missing out on both the half anniversary and the Goofy medal.

This being a big reason… ordered up another pair, and if they remain stocked when they go on sale with the 3 I may even get another.
The speed 4 wasn’t good for you if I remember? How’s the 5 compare, I’ve been afraid to even look at them
I skipped the Speed 4 and ran in the Speed 3 until I couldn’t find them in stock anywhere. I bought a pair of the Speed 5 in November and love them! They’re as good as the Speed 3, though I miss the round laces the 3s came with.

Dopey runners should be exempt. Let us sleep!!
But do you really want to wait until the 7:30 start groups? I mean, we won't know how they're handling this whole weird 5K start group thing until Wine & Dine, but I don't really fancy being at the end of everything, even if it means a little more sleep
