***October 2012 Thread*** MNSSHP + Food & Wine - Does It Get Any Better?

Major bump in the road to my trip! Turns out the weeks I was planning to exchange through RCI into DVC may not work! :headache::sick: So majorly bumped out and sick over the thought of it!

What happened? RCI deposits for DVC October units are barely coming in. I got my confirmation today for an ongoing search into BLT this morning.

I will send good thoughts your way! I know you said you were planning on exchanging, but maybe you can rent points from someone on the DVC board?

Thanks for the positive thoughts! Renting points would be more expensive than doing the exchange I was counting on. We need a King Size bed so we need a 1 bedroom.

I posted about it a little more on my PTR. Basically they are saying that the weeks that I have on deposit are not strong enough to use for DVC even though I deposited the most amount of points they would let me. (I had some left over but the system wouldn't let me do more!) If the system had let me deposit more points at that time then it wouldn't be an issue now. I am going to call back the next time I see resorts available for my dates and try again but since I was on the phone with them for an hour this morning its not looking very positive!

We did it! DH and I are now booked at BWI for 10/23-28, and we're going CL for the first time  This is going to be a real trip of "firsts" for us, and I can't wait!!!!

Are you able to set up an ongoing search? If you have enough TPUs for the resorts you want RCI is letting you set up a search FREE until 3/25. Remember that what you see online is what did not get matched to searches.

Hi all. I just posted this on the first page but I'm posting here as well. If you want to be added to the list on the first page, please PM me. This thread is becoming more & more active and if you post asking to be added, I might not see it! I don't want to miss anyone. Thanks! :)

So this just popped up on my Facebook wall from the Disney Parks Blog:

"First Look at Merchandise for the 30th Anniversary of Epcot at Walt Disney World Resort"

Here's hoping there's a good stock of this stuff throughout the rest of the year.

I absolutely love the Retro-designed Epcot shirts, like the one I bought on the last trip:

To think there's gonna be a whole line of that stuff specifically for the 30th anniversary is awesome. I may end up getting every design.

In addition, here's hoping those pins are still somewhat easy to come by by the end of the month, as I want all of them, and I don't even do the pin collecting thing yet.

And I want that freakin' lanyard. I may end up buying it from eBay prior to the trip if I have to.

Very cool! I thought the 30th anniversary was last year for some reason. Hope they have plenty to choose from at month's end too!

I have them set up as ongoing searches but they have said it is very unlikely that I will match up since DVC is very hard to get into and since apparently my trading power isn't as high I would need to wait for a very last minute availability to get it.

Since I haven't planned out this far in advance for a WDW trip, can someone explain the 180 + 10 rule? At my 180 mark, I can make ressies for 10 additional days out, correct? That is my understanding...

DH and I will be there 9/30 to 10/5. Never been to the F&W before so we are anxious to try it out. Just booked my airline tickets so now it feels official. :)

Wow it seems you spoke with a very misinformed RCI person. First of all do you have at least 41-43 TPUs for the 1 bedroom unit? I just booked BLT for Oct. 14 in a 1 bedroom for 41 TPUs. Next, if the ongoing search was set up with sufficient time you should be able to get a match. Also, DVC resorts do not reduce the trading power needed to exchange into the closer you are to the checkin date. SOMETIMES, you will see a DVC resort show up online for a reduced number of points but only when the checkin is within a 2 week timeframe or so. If you want to PM the dates and resorts you are looking for I can sent you a message if I see them on the RCI website. I check inventory availability daily, multiple times a day. Ongoing searches sometimes do not match but you do see the units available on the website. That happened to me with my ongoing search for June 2012. Luckily, I saw the unit and immediately booked it myself.

Hey! I like that you have rest days scheduled in the middle of your week..those are so important with all the walking at the parks. You have a lot of HS scheduled in your week...is this because you guys love it so much? I find that one day is enough, one and a half would be nice. Also, you don't have much MK time in your schedule yet. That's such a huge park it takes a long time to get to everything.
Looks great, though! Hope you get all the ADR's you want...you've picked some of our faves!

thanks for the input. :) our last visit we didn't spend a lot of time at HS, and star tours was closed as well. As far as MK ,I am 99.9% sure we will spent the last 2 days there...maybe book ADR in chef mickey's again,or could always do another did at ohana lol. any suggestions? and yes, I made sure to book rest days ( even though one test day is MNSSHP at night :) I refuse to go commando lol

Yes, you are correct! :thumbsup2

At your 180 day mark, you can make ADRs for up to 10 more traveling days. That way you only make one call to make all your ADRs. Otherwise, you'd have to call 180 days from Day 1 of your trip, then call the next day since it would be 180 days from Day 2, and so on. (Hopefully that makes sense!)

Booked this morning for October 20-27 at Old Key West! I am so excited to experience my first F&W and MNSSHP! I have only been to the World during the summer or during spring break, so am very excited to be there during the fall. Has anyone been during this time before? How are crowd levels/weather?

I've been twice during October... and both times were fabulous! Weather was great... still in the 80s, but as Southerners, we're used to it. And crowds were manageable. I think the longest we stood in line for an attraction was 30 minutes. It wasn't wall-to-wall people, at all.

On the flip side, I went last August/September and probably don't think I'd even go in the summer again! It was H-O-T and in RAINED every single day. Usually in the late afternoon/evening, but I was miserable walking around in the rain. Yes, crowds were low... in fact, I remember walking to get FPs for EE right after rope drop at AK and could not believe how empty the park was. But personally, I don't think suffering in the weather/rain is worth the low crowds. I think October is the perfect time to go!
