***October 2012 Thread*** MNSSHP + Food & Wine - Does It Get Any Better?

I'm a newbie to the October board!! We're planning on going either the second or third week of October. Haven't made any reservations or book flight yet.

My two questions are:
1.) Should I go ahead and book my reservations for WDW hotel? I'm hoping the free dining or some other special will be offered and I don't want the hassel of changing it.
2.) Flights with Southwest are running $166 for us each way, each person. Anyone think there's any hope of some kind of specials being run? I just applied for the 50,000 miles Southwest card so that's going to help but I'm hoping to hold out for better prices.

Thanks everyone!!!!!

We're planning on going in October too but haven't booked anything yet either, but I will hopefully within the next week. As far as flights, I would die for $166 each way! Flights for us on Southwest right now are $255 each way p/p :scared1: I'm holding out for better prices too, but so far, I'm not hopeful :headache:

Got an email today from Southwest and flights dropped from $161 to $151 but we haven't even got our points yet so we're still holding off but you might want to look!!

:scared1: I booked our flights down on SW at $135 each and I didn't even love that price, but I know that with gas the way it is, that might be the best we do.

Southwest out of Philly is 135 as well. I booked for October the same time last year, and got flights for $96. I agree about the gas prices, and I may just lock in a $135 this weekend

Anyone want to make a logical guess at the weather during October?

Our last trip was the week of November 11th back in 2012, and even then there were a few days where it got pretty hot. This year's mild winter makes me concerned that we're in for a hot Fall.

We have been probably 10 times in October and except for last year, it is always HOT. One year it was extra hot, like 95 every day. Last year was unusally cool, but still not what I would call cold. I needed a light jacket some days (but not all), and I still wore shorts. I would say it was more like 70 to 75 every day we were there last year (mid October).

Typically though, it's around 85 and sunny every day. :)

Gotcha.

I live in Louisiana so I know how ridiculous summer is, and how much the humidity makes it worse. Guess I'll just throw a towel and an extra shirt in my bag every day just in case.

Completely agree ... we've been down numerous times during October. Although the weather can be all over the place, warm to hot is all I really remember. EXCEPT for last year. I think we were down the 14th - 22nd last year and I remember it being on the colder side for most of the trip. I think there was tropical storm to the south that was causing some wierd weather though

Urg, maybe I should have pushed for another November trip.

Ah well, just gotta do more shorts shopping on September's clothes run.

I need to invest in a really good hat or something. My skin doesn't like the sun much *lol* so I usually avoid it. 12 days in Florida is gonna do wonders for me. As long as I remember to apply and reapply the sunscreen I'm betting I come back with a pretty amazing tan.

I got a HORRIBLE sun burn last year in only 2 hours in the sun! :sad2:

This October weather is gonna be interesting for this Canadian girl!

I did a little hat research yesterday because I also burn pretty easily. I never tan though. I found villagehatshop.com which has some SPF hats. I'm thinking of getting one of those because while I have a hat now, it's wide brimmed and white so sometimes the sun reflects off of the water or something else and back onto my face and I still get burned.

Have you ever been to the south?

Because, as you may have heard, it's the humidity, not the heat, that's a killer.

Be prepared to walk around feeling sticky all day long.
