October 2012 Code Watch!!!

I did the same thing I got my DVD today but no pin in there. Hope I have one in my maps when they come.

Bummer that you didn't get a pin code. I'm guessing that could be because the DVDs are massed produced and prepackaged ahead of time. With the custom maps they only put those together as people order them. So it's probably more likely that the maps could come with a pin code.

But that doesn't mean that the ordering of the DVD couldn't get you a code the other way....through e-mail. So hang in there!

I was in this spot 2 years ago for our December trip. Everyone on the Dis suggested to order the custom maps, save vacation quotes, and order the DVD. I did all of that and about 2 to 3 months prior to our trip, I got a pin code! (It was the 20/30/40% off value/moderate/deluxe respectively.)

Wow that gives me some hope . I think I will go save some vacation quotes lol. I also think there may be hope for our dates because if the others got a pin for Oct that inlcuded my dates that may mean they will be giving out discounts that week. I hoping they are only going to black out dates when the Gartner people will be there which is after we want to go.

The pins sent out often predict possible general public offers to come. For those of you that got an October pin, was it for free dining or a room discount? More importantly, what dates were excluded from the offer?

I called in today to get help with the website planning section and checked for a code while I was on the line

I had a 35% code that will work for our stay Oct 20-29

I just got off the phone with our travel agent and she is checking availability at our current resort, but we may need to change resorts

FYI - from the Gartner website - the conference is the 21st - 25th

"Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2012 will take place at the Walt Disney World Dolphin, Walt Disney World Swan, and Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts."

FWIW - I had previously checked with GS and had a 10% room only code applied; I ordered the dvd; created multiple saved offers in my name and also dh's; we booked in February

Well I went ahead and made the call to see if there was a pin code for me....nope. But the CM was super nice! She was going on about how some people call in daily for discounts, or to check availability for a room type that was booked up, and the CMs don't mind at all....she told me to call back frequently to check for pin code.

Since I didn't have a reservation yet, I decided to book anyway. CM said my chances are the same for getting a pin code, whether I have a reservation or not. Besides, now I can make those ADRs!

I think it's pretty common for the days around Columbus Day to be blacked out.

Question about PIN emails: I only receive Disney Destinations emails for trip confirmations and stuff about booked vacations. I never receive any otherwise (in between trips or any random marketing stuff). Is this normal? I've checked my Spam folder and I know that's not the problem. I'm just wondering if they normally send out other emails periodically that I might be missing for some reason.

Unfortunately ........ completely normal. You must be on the "No Pin" list along with me.

I get a monthly newsletter from Disney Destinations...do you get that? As for the pin codes/marketing promotions, not everyone gets them. When I have gotten a Pin Code from DD, it's usually in a separate e-mail, (doesn't come in the newsletter). Last time I got a marketing/pin code e-mail was 2 years ago, so they don't come as frequently as you might think.

The newsletters usually have the discounts that are available to the general public. Like in March it had a link for the Free Dining through Sept. 29th.

She didn't tell me to "Email them for a pin".. just that it would be a 'good idea' to email them to 'see what they can do'? LOL Love the generics. Anyway she just gave me to the basic wdw.guest.communications@disney email addy so who knows. I thought seemed odd, but I guess its always worth trying.

Right, and seeing "what they can do" is really asking for a discount of some sort. So you're not asking directly for a pin code. Just subtly asking/feeling out for a discount. Got it.
