October 2012 Code Watch!!!

Yes...the middle two weeks were blacked out. I was there the 15-23 and paid rack rate for room, tickets, and QSDP.

Hmmm....The Gartner is scheduled for Oct 21-25 this year at the Dolphin, Swan, and Yacht & Beach Club. My trip is Oct 22-28. Hoping there's no blackout dates for free dining!!

Does anyone know if the reason the black out dates were because the Gartner Symposium was there ? Or is this a yearly thing they do at the same time of the month ?

If I am remembering correctly, the middle two weeks have been blacked out for free dining for the last several years. Last year, the free dining dates for Oct were 1-6 and 22-Nov3. The offer came out on Aug. 3.

The Gartner Symposium always seems to be held in October but not necessarily the same week each year. Last year the Gartner was October 16-20, 2011

Please forgive me if this has already been posted, but I think the following link will cheer some people up here in the October board.

As many have stated, there has been Free Dining (FD) offered for the past three years ('09, '10, '11) during pretty much the same October timeframe. Additionally, the FD is normally released at about the same time. And lastly, by reviewing the chart at the link I'm about to post, you can see that Disney is following a similar (if not exact) pattern for 2012.

Again, sorry if this is duplicate information, but I find it VERY encouraging!!

I am really hoping that this holds true for the military discount also. Even if it's just the room discount, I will be so happy!! We buy season passes at Shades and use a TIW card instead of DDP so if I could save on our room at Pop I would be thrilled!!!

Well it's not going to be good for us if we do not have any discount or free dining the week of the 14th :sad1: It is going to cost like a $1000.00 more. Now I dont know what to do, I picked that week because my DGD has a few days off from school :confused3.

Just joined DISBoards.com..going to Disney Oct 14 - 20. I ordered the custom maps and DVD and got a 30% off PIN for all hotel grades but AoA was excluded. Still hoping for free meal plan. Currently booked for Royal Room @ Port Orleans, but may book @ Pop to save money (to be used elsewhere at the park i am sure).

Just registered my hubby on disney and ordered custom maps under his account, saved some offers, and ordered DVDs again to see if we get PIN.

Our pin was received via snail mail along with our Customized Maps. :woohoo:

Wow wait maybe there is hope after all we were planning on going the same time. Did the 30% off include your dates ?

I don't think the Symposium has much to do with the black out dates. Generally it really affects mostly the Boardwalk area and Epcot a bit so it's not really that big of a deal.

I'd guess part of the black out dates has to do with Columbus day as the holiday tends to bring in more crowds.

Actually it does. They generally black out that week. That's because the Gratner symposium has people in rooms throughout WDW. Discounts are to sell rooms and the symposium insures that it's a strong week for oom sales.

Yes and no. The bulk of the attendees are at the Swan and Dolphin (which are not Disney resorts that are included in any discounts for room only or free dining) with the spillover at BC and YC. I suspect the blacked out weeks have more to do with Columbus Day and school fall breaks more than anything else.

Im wondering if they offer the Gartner Symposium discounts and that is why they have no room to give it to the public.

Yes but it is odd that they have a summer discount right now and wont have one in October. Since summer is when all the kids are out of school and that is when most people go to Disney.

That is true, but the summer is very hot and there are other destinations that people choose to go to in the summertime so they run some low percentage room offers to entice people to come during that time. October has been an increasingly popular time for guests to travel especially with F&W and MNSSHP both taking place.

Do you think they may change the blackout dates or do they stay the same each year ?

What number do you use to check for pins? I used the one for booking, but I already have a trip booked with a TA. Is there another number to use?

Booked our trip yesterday for 10/20-27, really looking forward to MNSSHP and F&W festival! It will be my DH and my first time there in the Fall so we are really looking forward to it. Now, if only there would be free dining offered then, that would be the icing on the cake!

I have no idea what sets the black out dates but I can say this -
When the fall FD promotion was first released - free dining for Columbus Day week was offered as long as you checked in by that Sat night. It was only offered for a short time though and when the next big wave of promotion came out for free dining Oct/Nov/Dec, the date was backed up a few days and there wasn't any part of Columbus Day week available. I plan WDW trips part time for a local travel agency and had 7 families who used the free dining promo for their 2011 Columbus Day week trip. The families who waited until late Aug/Sept to book could not get in.

The week of the Gartner Symposium (week following Columbus Day week) was blacked out from the beginning and never opened up for any discounts. There were designated blocks of rooms at WDW resort hotels for the symposium participants. I assume that they received special rates if they booked those specific resorts :confused3. I know there are special ticket rates for those in Orlando and their families if you can prove you are there for different conferences. There are half day tickets that are available and other options. It's not a huge discount if you are going to do parks for multiple days but the one and two day tickets are a good bit cheaper.

Port Orleans Riverside was one resort that was a designated resort for Gartner along with Swan, Dolphin and other Epcot resorts. I know because my family of 5 could not get in POR and we had to reserve connecting rooms at ASMo. POR was at full capacity by the beginning of Sept. When I began checking why - I saw that it was on the recommended list put out by the conference.

We ate at Cape May while we were there and saw lots of conference people in the resort and restaurant. There were also lots of buses and shuttle vehicles that had the conference name down the side out on the roads. Epcot had a lot of conference people entering the park late in the afternoon. Most people had the monogrammed golf type shirts from where they worked but I was impressed with the number of suits and extremely high heels that I saw coming in. I did not see any other conference people at any of the other resorts or parks. We normally travel Columbus Day week and I did not notice much of a difference in crowd by traveling a week later.

According to the website for the Gartner conference, the list of conference hotels and rates will be posted at the end of April for this year.

Wow thanks for all the information :thumbsup2 That is the most details I have heard yet on the Garnter conference. I know the Garnter people are going to be there Oct 21 to 25 this year. I wonder if they will black out the week before from having any discounts ?

Thanks for the tip! My husband and I both logged into our accounts and ordered the custom maps, and I ordered the vacation DVD. Hopefully this will activate a pin code for us...fingers crossed! :goodvibes
