October 2011 Code Watch

I've got my spreadsheet ready of various places, prices, and discounts! Free DDP wins hands down, 40% off a mod edges out offsite (with a car) by $80. Room only discounts on a deluxe are not worth it.

Come on, Disney!! I'm (not so) patiently waiting!

Myhoney = MY HERO!!!

Help me too. I have run the numbers so many times, I can't see straight. Would it be better for me to get free dining or discount on room.

(here is what we have so far....$588 off site, 2 adults tickets (we would buy 1 day passes to get dining), rental car (so transportation is not an issue) and $800 food budget) We will still need to purchase a child's 7 day pass - by the way we are 2 adult's, 1 child under 10)

We would want to stay in a moderate resort

Then just tell me where to send you the check for doing my work for me.

I have to still rework my figures, as far as room only discount goes, WL in the past few most recent GP promos were only 25% off, I am currently booked with a 20% off pin so my saving will be $90+the tax difference, not something I can get too excited over and I doubt FD will help since it is only DH and myself.

figment's wife:

we would stay at French Quarter Oct 18th - Oct 24th
We also already have tickets from UT (6day base) for $922, and are also figuring an $800 food budget.

Rack Rates: total
Room only $1130 +tix+food = $2852
Room & Tix $2116 +food = $2916
Package w/DDP $2812 = $2812
offsite(room/tix/car)$1681 +food = $2481

Discounts:
40% off room $678 +tix+food = $2400
30% off room $791 +tix+food = $2513
free ddp dining $2116 = $2116

Deluxe Rooms: Rack after 40% room only discount
saratoga springs $2278 $1367
wilderness lodge $2368 $1421
Old Key West $2278 $1367

I can't tell if your $588 includes your car and tix, but maybe you could plug your numbers in like I did to see it easier! :goodvibes

OMG - you are the BEST!!!! I was joking...but now I am really stressing because your numbers are different from mine. the $588 is off site hotel only, we already have 2 adults tickets, but would still need to purchase each of us 1 day tickets to get the dining plan (free or not)

My car is $257 (10 days)
Gas - $300 (really closer to $250 but wanted to guess higher
ticket for child $250
Food - $800
parking $104
tips - $160
then spending money

So the way I figure it is this....add the parking, hotel and food together and that is what I would be willing to pay (I know will be a little more) to stay on property. Is that right???

to make the deal even sweeter... you're probably aware of the new queen beds at POFQ. the cm on my last phone call informed me that this is "just like an upgrade" right before giving me my latest 10% off quote. this might be a good one to add to future spread sheet break-downs.

If a discount code is released for October, I'm still going to be out of luck. I just checked the WDW booking engine and my dates are sold out for POFQ! At least I have the AAA discount.

The only thing is that mods are not usually (ever that I have seen) 40% off. Not sure if that changes your spreadsheet or not. :rolleyes1

I know, I'm trying to be optimistic!! At 30% off, it's basically break even, and 20% off costs $150 more to be on. I never thought I'd say it, but come on free dining! (table service only, please!)

figment's wife:

ok, I didn't include tips or spending money, because you'll spend that whether you are on or off. I also didn't include the gas, because I don't know why it's so high - are you driving to WDW? That, too isn't affected by on/off, and I remember you saying you booked Buena Vista Suites, so I can't think you'd use much more than a tank of gas for the week!

So: I used my price for POFQ (upped for 9 nights)
I used $800 for food
I used $431 for tix ($250 for kid ticket, and 2 one day base for adults. Not technically accurate, because you should include price of tix you already bought, but we'll go with this!)

Room only: $1695 +tix+food = $2926
Room + tix: $1939 +food = $2910
MYW Pkg: $2876 (you have to buy a 1 day pass for both adults and child to get dining)
offsite: hotel+tix+car+food+parking = $2180

Discounts:
free dining: $1939 (same as room +tix)
40% off room: $1017 +tix+food = $2248
30% off room: $1187 + tix+food = $2418
20% off room: $1356 +tix+food = $2587

Run your dates on the website, and play with the ticket info. I made some assumptions that may not be accurate for you. But, it looks like you are better offsite unless you get free dining, and then you would save $250 by being on. Again, your actual ticket figures are going to be the biggest impact, so adjust those. Good luck!

My Honey - again THANK YOU!!!

Have you seen the new post that started last night???? About Free dining offer starting Aug 3. I am new to the boards so I don't know if it is believable or not, but I get up early every morning as it is...so I guess I will be checking the website and calling Disney August 3. I hope it works for your dates also. Thank you again for all of your help. I am now thinking that the FREE dining is the best offer (if we want to stay on site) other wise, we should just stay at BVS

I think the new offer has to be incorrect regarding the blackout days. It doesn't make sense that the week after Columbus Dat would be blacked out (which, of course, includes my friggin start date - can you TELL I'm ticked off this morning?).

Anyway....if it does come to pass that my dates are blacked out, Disney can kiss my beautiful behind good-bye. I'll be staying at the Buena Vista Suites. As a matter of fact, I'll be calling them shortly to lock in the better rate for booking in July.

:(

Nevermind....looked at the historical. Those two weeks were blacked out last year. ******* (insert favorite swear words here)

We are blocked out, too. We leave the 10/24, and it doesn't start up that week til 10/23. If there aren't any room discounts, I think we'll be off.

I agree that the dates seem to be really random. Would F&W have any impact?

I would honestly wait until the 3rd to make sure it's actually happening. Call me a cynic, but I would want to make 100% sure before I started canceling things.

I need a discount week that includes Columbus Day, that's blacked out too :(
Maybe there will be something else like a room discount that week, keeping my fingers crossed.

just out of curiosity. Does free dining "regular" mean any restuarant including Signature restaurants?
If not then this is a weak offer backing my thought process all along about the weening of discounts.
Oh and this offer is basically the same as the bounceback dates being offered in the rooms for this time of year..That bounceback has been around all year.
Ill bet that in the future the majority of the discounts will be bounceback offers only...to encourage travelers to lock in another trip...
its really a big market for disney, Get guests to come for the first time, WOW them with the disney experience, and while they are still on the disney high get them to book another room with a huge discount...
The bounceback is pretty significant....40% off deluxes....We used it this past april to pay for part of our october room.
Bouncebacks seem to be the only stable discounts left.

Regular means you get one table service credit, one counter service credit, and one snack credit each day. You can "double up" on the table service credits and eat at Signature dining restaurants. For instance, if I were to go and stay on site, I would have eaten one evening at California Grill, which uses two table service credits per diner.

Hope this helps!!!

You can do signature dining with the regular plan, but it takes two table service credits. So does the deluxe plan. I can't speak badly about it - we are staying in a value and even with a 35% off room rate it was $300 discount whereas free dining saves us $530 so I'll take it. The room only discounts are good if you stay in deluxes but for the lower rooms it doesn't seem worth it to me.

New public offer has us blacked-out. Oh well. Maybe next year.

My dates are blacked out also but I have to say I sorta expected that since people who were getting pins for room discounts for October earlier in the year for the most part did have those same dates blacked out if I am remembering correctly, when I rec'd our pin and it was good from 10/18 I thought how lucky we were that we had a pin for the time when the others were blacked out but maybe now not so much so. I guess I will just be happy with my 20% off room rate, I already have my air so right there to change that would be $200
