October 2011 Code Watch

I checked out the link and the site looks good, but there are no dates on anything - how do we know for sure this is a recent comment and that tomorrow is the supposed day for a big announcement? I hate to get my hopes up for nothing...:confused3

:sunny:

Too late my hopes are up! We have a short trip planned Oct 16-19 and I really, really want a code to reduce it off rack rate. So far no discounts, not even with AP or DVC.

Darn! A voice of reason.;)

I do know that the question just got posted yesterday, but I don't know for sure when the question was asked? Hopefully, he knows something we don't. My TA hasn't heard anything, though. She may fire me before we get to go - I tend to make changes and bug her about discounts!:rolleyes1

Tomorrow is as good a day as any to announce a discount, so maybe He's right. :thumbsup2

I'm really not sure what to think about that "announcement" at the Dad's guide to WDW.. after reading some of the blog posts, it almost sounds kinda site specific. Lots of references to things "he's" doing to prepare his site and facebook page.
Here's to hoping it's a GREAT GP offer.

I really hope Dad is right, because I just got off the phone with disney reservations (checking for FD or discounts....yet again) and was given some pretty disappointing news. I spoke to Edwina and she said they have been told that not discounts will be out for the remainder of the year. BUT....she also was told that they weren't going to release FD at all this year, and it was released for 5 weeks. So, she said, there is always hope.

I am actually pretty positive that disney will release discounts for various reasons. I am an accountant and I can tell you, the economy is far from recovered. People are not spending money on vacations and extras....Disney needs people in its resorts and parks and, therefore, will need to offer discounts. Additionally, I have never seen airfare as high as its been this year. Add that to the equation, and, again, I think we have a good chance of seeing a discount (or FD....please, please, please!!!) for October. As a final reason, Disney's fiscal year ends September 30th. They are going to want to show that they've got solid bookings for the 1st quarter, so I think that can also lead to discounts. :goodvibes

I'm going to fire up the laptop first thing tomorrow and hope that Dad is right. Also gonna go and Google now...maybe another fan site has something.....

I bookmarked the site to look around later. Can't imagine what kind of BIG announcement he could make as it relates to a discount but you never know.
I'm hoping it's a GP offer, but we'll have to wait & see.
No one else has heard anything. :confused3
I've also been told by a CM at reservations that there will be no discounts offered from later this year. But was told by another that something was coming. They have no idea, I think they tell you no so you just go ahead & book honestly. :headache:

I think you're exactly right. I would imagine they're trained to not give any info at all about possible discounts until they are officially released. Which is why they are kept in the dark about it!

Exactly. I think anything the CMs on the phone say until an actualy offer is revealed, is pure speculation on their parts.

& I agree, maybe I'm just trying to keep my hopes down but it sure does sound like something to do with his website, the way his blog post is worded.
The more I'm looking at his blog posts & his FB page, the more I think it's just an announcement for his pages. He keeps talking about this announcement when people ask him questions about booking & going in Oct., Nov. or Dec.
But when someone asked why he thought they haven't releaed discounts for Nov., he tells them the lack of offers for fall/winter confuse him as well.
He was also supposed to make this announcement a few days ago but wasn't ready yet so he postponed it. :confused3

Those details tanked my hope of it being anything more than his site doing something big for people who book thru him.

I think it's a clever marketing plan to get more attention paid to his site & to get more followers on FB.

There was a CM last week that said Wishes Dessert Party dates for September wouldn't be released for at least a few more days and later that same day the dates were up on the Disney site, so I would take everything the CM's say with a grain of salt. I think it works like any other office - some people are "in the know" and others aren't and we will never know which is which.

As for the Dad's Guide site, doesn't he say...

"You are correct. Dad has no knowledge of Disney's present or future plans. The announcement on Sunday is about Dad's Guide to WDW.

But it's still going to be big. "

I would love a deal to come out as much as anyone else but I've never heard of a Disney deal being announced on Sunday seeing as it gives such a huge disadvantage to all the Disney travel agents across North America who work Monday to Friday. AM I wrong?:confused3

Like everyone else I will be online tomorrow - eagerly waiting some news!!!!!!

From Dad's website:

What's happening Sunday??

You make a lot of references to Sunday that have people speculating about what is happening. Can you at least confirm that this is NOT a Disney offer that is coming out? It would stop some of the rumors going around. Thank you.

You are correct. Dad has no knowledge of Disney's present or future plans. The announcement on Sunday is about Dad's Guide to WDW.

But it's still going to be big.

Sorry guys...looks like this isn't a Disney relase for certain...

THE BIG ANNOUNCEMENT - For all of you hoping Dad is going to announce something big from Disney let me just say this .. I don't know anything about any plans Disney has for discounts. The BIG ANNOUNCEMENT is about Dad's Guide.

The BIG ANNOUNCEMENT (which will come out first in Dad's Newsletter) will be bigger and longer lasting than any discount Disney will ever offer. You don't want to miss it.

Trust me.

Sorry for getting everyone excited.:guilty:

I really thought it would be discount since he told her to wait to book. I hope you all can forgive me!

You did nothing wrong. It was fun to speculate for awhile.

At least you didn't make a whole new thread about it like some people! :rotfl: I hope *I'm* forgiven.

All of this waiting is making me CRAZY!!!:rotfl: I got to thinking about something today so I thought I'd put it out here to see if anybody else thinks it might be a possibility.

Disney's fiscal year ends at the end of September. The 1st quarter starts Oct. 1. When CM's say they've been told/have heard that there will be no more discounts "this year", maybe they have been hearing it from the people who consider the end of the year to be September. Just a thought. My hubby works for the government, so his fiscal year works the same way, and we were talking about his work stuff when this Disney thought popped into my head. I don't know, maybe it's a stretch, but I find it hard to believe that no discounts will ever come out for Oct-Dec. I wish they would hurry it up already!!!

Now this sounds reasonable. I can see how they could safely say no more discounts for this year or no more FD for this year when speaking of their fiscal year.
I too, have a hard time understanding why they wouldn't need to offer something for the later months of this year. With all the discounts they've offered plus offering FD thru the end of Sept., 2011 in 2010. You can't tell me the resorts are full for Oct., Nov. or Dec. yet. Maybe for the holiday weeks but I see plenty of resort & ADR ressies available for those months.
I think they're just feeling out these Game On pins which, some may be decent but most are crap! I got one for 10%. I'm not even positive it is 10%, I think my math was off. We're staying at ASMu in a Family Suite for 8 days, 7 nights & got just under $200 off. :rotfl:

I really thought it would be discount since he told her to wait to book. I hope you all can forgive me!

It does read that way on that question with the way he answered & worded it. It wasn't until I began reading the other blog posts & some of the question & answers on his FB that it really showed what was meant.
I still think he was using this "BIG Announcement" to lure people into his site & FB. I mean c'mon. His last statement was that it will be better than any discount Disney could ever offer.......... This marketing would be a big turn off for me using him as a TA. Some of it was worded to be very misleading. It really looks like, until someone asked, outright, point blank, if it was about a Disney offer, he was running with it.
At least, that's what it looks like to me.
But playing this waiting game is making me a bit mad, lol. :upsidedow

Darn it anyway! I was really hoping for an awesome offer tomorrow. Oh well...the waiting game continues!

I have free dining for late October thru a pin I received way back in January. Not trying to brag just trying to give hope that they will probably open up to the GP eventually. I don't think the CMs saying there won't be any this year honestly know. :goodvibes

Pfft, forget about it! It was nice getting excited for the possibility of something happening. I've been dormant too long waiting for SOMETHING from Disney!! No worries, no one can be mad at your for making us feel a bit of excitement.
