October 2011 Code Watch

We booked not expecting anything. There's no harm in hoping. Won't change most of us going, but it's nice to wait and see what comes up. Doesn't seem like denial, just optimism.

I booked my vacation, for December, and flight so can not change, hoping for dining, but if we do not get it we are still going have not been there in 11 years. And the first trip with the grandkids.:santa:

I had a question about late October. I know there is a big conference in the 3rd week that books a lot of the rooms. Do these people frequent the parks too, or are they mainly there for the conference? I was just wondering because I was thinking of going from the 17th till the 27th, and I was curious if that would effect crowd levels?

According to Touring Plans, you've got crowd levels of 1s, 2s, & 3s, and one day's a 6... I don't know if they take into consideration conferences, but either way that's about as slow as it gets! :cool1: And that's exactly why I think we are in for a nice discount coming up soon!

Can say what I'd like to say, as it would sink me down to that level. But since you decided to call out my post, guess what?! I can think & hope what I want, just like you can. Hence why we have these wonderful things called opinions. You can think what you want & I can think what I want. No one knows what' going on behind closed doors at Disney except the people behind those doors. If they need to fill rooms, they'll offer something. I'm not even going in October & I haven't read thru this whole thread, only began recently since it may stand to reason that something coming up for October may pertain to December as well. I have no idea about the availability in October, I'm going in December, plenty of things open for then. & telling me I'm in denial.....well, I'll refrain my comment.
I have a plan in place in case they don't offer anything for our dates, it's called staying off-site cause as a larger family, we can't afford on-site without some kind of discount. The on-site rates are ridiculous & Disney knows this. I don't think I'm getting people's hopes up, obviouly a lot of people thinking the same thing hence why these threads have so many people on them, hoping for the same as me!
& since Values are so "yuck", well glad ya won't be there with me then. I don't stay deluxe, we need more room so that doesn't & wouldn't affect me & my family anyways.
& as far as the discounts being released on July 7th last year, historically the discounts for October-December aren't released until late July, early August. Last year was early but wow, one year out of a few.
Thank you for posting so kindly to my thread & bashing my thought process. I prefer to not give up hope though until my 45 days is here & I cancel & stay at the house I have booked instead.
Thank you & have a lovely Sunday afternoon, I plan too, without negitive thinking. :flower3:
I prefer to be an optimist rather than a pessimist, it makes life so much more enjoyable. I also believe in miracles. So, you can keep your train of thought & I'll keep mine. & I can express mine just as well as you can. Differences make the world go round & it takes all kind of people to make this crazy world!

How is it hard to understand this. last year Disney said they were weening discounts and now that they are holding true to their words you find it hard to believe? Over the last however long I've expressed in this very thread
that you are all in denial that its just not going to happen and you still are...
I hope a miracle happens cause i need a discount too but i dont
think this miracle is going to occur...I have one last breath holding that it does but I pulled the trigger and booked the rack rate room cause
contractary to what you say of there being "plenty" of availability (love how people exxagerate so much) there really isnt crap left part of the second, all
of the 3rd and 4th week of October....So dont get peoples hopes up by saying this....Ya theres plenty if you goto a value resort, yuck...and The Grand Floridian club level , but theres no regular rooms at Beach Club, No Yacht Club, Animal Kingdom or Boardwalk, so if there is any discount realeased its prob NOT going to include deluxes. they dont need to fill these
during this time period.

Great post... the comment about "a value resort, yuck" is what bothered me the most. I could afford to stay anywhere on property, but I prefer to stay at a value because...

1. We are at the parks from morning to night-- why pay more for something you just need to sleep in?

2. I could stay in fancy hotels anywhere in the country, but the only hotel that I can pass by an enormous Baloo and Mowgli on the way to breakfast is POP, so that's where I choose to stay.

Some people stay at values because of necessity, and others stay there because it's their preference. I see nothing "yuck" about either of those reasons.

Yeah, I was kinda taken with stay at a value, yuck comment as well. What is wrong with a value resort? I am with smitch425. Why would I want to spend $300+ a night on a room that I will never be at? Doesn't make sense to me. Plus staying at a value (or Mod) means we can stay longer AND always stay on site. Also, I have stayed at POP, ALL stars movies, GF, Y&B, and POFQ. To me the values are more fun, laid back, and have a greater Disney Vibe. IF there's a discount, we choose POFQ 1st, after that it'll always be POP. :hippie:

I am staying at the pop I don't mind the value resorts, with small kids, by the time we get back to the room they will be ready for bed. I would love to stay at a better room, but they are way to expensive. I am just happy to go this year.:santa:

So I looked through my email to see if I still had a copy of the reservations I made last year because of the discounted rates (but never used.) I made them on Aug 18th, so there still may be some hope for room only discounts.

I am another optimistic, Pollyanna loving discount shopper. I agree POFQ is our first choice with a great rate, POP our backup. I have stayed at All Stars, POP, CBR, POR, POFQ, Boardwalk Villas, OKW, WL, AKL, CR, FW, SSR etc... they all have their charm and pricetags. No judgement please. Just like when you cruise, once you leave your "cabin", the amenities are the same for all.

I checked my records.

Last year on June 10, I made a reservation at the Swan for $149 per night for Oct. 30 to Nov. 6.

On July 15th, a code came out that allowed us to book as part of grand gatherings for Oct. 30-Nov. 6 at a value with FD. Now, if you notice, that was DURING a technical blackout period. Apparently, there were lots of codes during black out periods. We did the FD, I can say it was a reasonable deal.

Suffice to say, if I were a betting man, I would say this thursday is when they will open it up to FD for Oct. and to Dec.

This year, we are going Oct. 11-Oct. 18. We booked all our dining at the moment times came out since I figured may as well. If there is no FD, we will cancel all of them and probably eat off property since I have found that prices have gone up so much at on property restaurants as of late, that unless you have FD, they are way way overpriced. Just my 2 cents, but I have found the prices have gone up to make it appear like the dining plan is a huge deal.

The only downside is we are there during food and wine fest. Sadly, something that has gone down hill since 2000-2003 or so - I can not remember when it was that they stopped the free seminars etc.

That's my feeling, too....we will cancel all but two or three of our table service meals if FD is not offered. And...we may move to stay off-site. It is what it is. I'm still going to Disney; I'm still going to enjoy myself; And my family is still going to be together for a great time.

Is FD what I'm betting on? Yes. But that doesn't mean I will cancel my vacation of it's not offered, I'll just tweak my plans. We rent a car anyway, so free Disney transportation does not factor into the equation. And we can actually save money by staying off site and paying for our food rather than staying on-site, paying rack rate (which is what I am booked at right now), and then paying for food as well. I've actually been eyeing the kids suites at Holiday Inn....they look....interesting.

But we'll see. All I can do is wait patiently (or not so much so ;)) until by 45 days out approach.

Disney certainly would like to slow down the discounts, and maybe they will, but the economy has not recovered to the point where they can fill resorts with full pricing.

Last year FD was extended through Dec on 7/6, but everyone was surprised by how early it was announced, including CM's. The past years have all been later, and with many of the Game On pins expiring 7/28, it is a reasonable assumption that a new discount could be released after that. Beyond the fact that even if a public discount isn't offered, there is still a good chance people here will recieve a pin code.

As for value's being "yuck" all I have to say is wow. I work in hotels, I have worked at luxury resorts, and business hotels and casino hotels, and I can tell you that most rooms at Deluxe resorts wouldn't sell or their rack rates anywhere but WDW. It's just like the dining, pricing is all about where you are. I would love to stay at the GF sometime, but not until I have a child who will appreciate it (my 3 year old LOVES Pop) or take a trip without him. The reason Disney has so many pricing levels is so everyone can enjoy a Disney vacation on site if they want. And since Pop has been refurbed recently and AsMo is in the process, I venture to guess those rooms are nicer than in some of the mod's that haven't been done lately. Plus, one of the only report of bed bus I have read at WDW happened at a Deluxe... It would be nice if you weren't so rude about other people's choices.

I have looked at several different resort options for October 23-27th, and everytime I play around on the WDW site, there is plenty of availibility for my dates.

If everyone here is so in denial, feel free to go rain on someone else's parade, we don't need your negativity here.

Well said!!!! :woohoo:

i do not post much but been around a while here and nothing is gained from suggesting people can not look forward to deals....whether they play out or not.

i remember when deals were rare....i mean, when you had to pay full price for everything...i prefer to hope they will keep on coming. BTW, the economy is most certainly not as good as the media and markets seem to suggest...at not least in the trenches of this household.

I'm an accountant, a CFO of a business in South Jersey. My company makes, sells parts to and services vehicles that are essential to school districts, municipalities and other businesses. If we're not selling things because the municipalities and state agencies can't afford things, that should tell people how truly bad the economy is.

The economy has no where near recovered. Nor is it going to for the next 2 to 3 years.

And I agree, asc, there is nothing gained by telling people that can't be positive. What is the song from Young Frankenstein? "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life"? There's a lesson there. I'm not saying everyone has to be positive all the time, but don't bring your negativity on those of us who are just trying to look forward to something.....go be a fly in someone else's pie.

I was actually singling you out cause you seem to have a hard time understanding why they do not need to offer anything. So I responded with 2 fold. #1 There really isnt "plenty" of availability in the end of the month and #2 Disney warned us that they were getting rid of them.
#2 is what people seem to be ignoring. Im not being negative at all. You need to think about their actions as a whole.
They said they were doing it and they have been doing it all year. How on gods earth would they need to offer discounts.

Its not being negative, its looking at the facts and being a realist.

People on here are even telling others to Wait to book until discounts come out cause they are sooo sure they are going to come out. Talk about giving false hope. By the time people on the fence book there will be not a darn room left.

These boards are so funny, I should've known that being a realist means I am being so negative.

As i said before, I myself and hoping something happens, but i see the writing on the wall...and I think it
doesnt include your Big announcement you were to have.....god, talk about giving people false hope

Amen, Sista! My DH is in the construction arena and we saw the writing on the wall 2 years prior to the economic collapse. It's coming back slowly. Construction is usually first to be affected, first to come back. There is STILL a long way to go. I'm thinking barring another economic failure, it will be 10 years start to finish. We're in about year 5-6 ish...at least in our neck of the woods and we were one of the hardest hit states.

Whether or not Disney offers an "incentive" to fill rooms remains to be seen. I don't have a crystal ball and God bless them if they don't need to. Regardless, hope is hope is hope and there ain't nothin' wrong with that. it's fun to see what's the next thing around the bend. Coming on here daily is usually enjoyable. Do they HAVE to give something for the remaining time this year? They don't HAVE to. Do people still go without one? Yes. Do the same number go without an incentive? No. Economically, I see the possibility of some sort room discount. I think most of us are smart enough to figure out that possible is just that, possible...not a done deal. I don't think most of us here have "false hope." I think the majority ARE realistic, but it's fun to wish.

I know, factually, Disney has eliminated a lot of positions these last two years. I work with a lady whose SIL was a big wig in HR at WDW and lost her job. One day a job, the next day nada, she and a multitude of other employees. Even the Mouse can't survive a bottomed out economy...no matter how much magic in his world there is!
