October 2011 Car Rental Rates

Dunno if anyone here uses Priceline. There's a $12 bonus cash reward right now through your account (go to reward and click).

Just booked a Standard Size car MCO roundtrip from AVIS for late October for $16/day, plus taxes and fees.

Hope this helps someone...best deal I've seen in months (been checking Budget, Avis, Alamo and Hotwire).

What was your total? I've been thinking of using Priceline for our trip10/22-29.
Thanks:)

Alamo rates for 9/30-10/8 dropped since this morning. Using Insiders ID 7014667 and coupon AD2359FDF, I'm getting a midsize SUV for $159; Standard SUV for $231 or a minivan for $133.

I would give up my first born for a $133 minivan (okay, not really...maybe). Just put our end of October dates in with those codes and my rate..............$800. :scared1: Will keep watching.

Take in account that most of the time, all rates are calculated using an algorithm that weighs several variables, one of them depends on how many people is trying to get a quote simultaneously or in a certain time frame, so I suggest looking at car rental websites late in the night, let's say later than 11pm. I have seen the rate pattern change many times, it is not 100% assured they will go down, but you may want to give it a try.

About $211 for a 8 day rental, with taxes and fees (incl airport fees). I think I could have won with $14 or $15 rather than $16 (before taxes and fees) since I had bonus cash through my account, but I bid higher since I wanted to finalize our plans.

Thank you so much. I had tried priceline for the first time this year but didn't get any good deals on compacts. So I tried a standard size today and got one with Budget. Save me almost $100 over the Avis one I had reserved yesterday. DH will be thrilled. :yay:

No problem. Just curious, what did you bid and did you have bonus cash? Thanks :)

I'm still going to try and bid with Priceline, but in the interim I got a good deal at Budget: $291 total for an intermediate SUV (like an Escape) for a rental from 10/15-10/24.

...using BCD D454300 and coupon MUGZ029.

The pricing is strange... when I clicked on the "pay in advance" rates -- which are supposed to be 35% off the regular rates, the SUV jumped up to $400 or more.

Good luck.

Its says that a coupon has to be turned in when you p/u the vehicle?

Just one quick question, I have a backup reservation, just in case the TI1 code for Alamo would not work (the main problems people have with this code, is they are asked for an international driving license which I have, issued outside the US, so I think it may work). Is it OK to have a backup reservation, will I get charged if I don't use it? I am an Alamo Insiders member, and by reservation time they already have my number, so I may get fined or something like that...

Any thoughts?

PS: FYI, Now I can rent some cars in the WDW/Orlando area and returning it in Miami Intl. Airport.

you're 1/2 way there;), according to flyertalk it's designed for employees of a travel agency & includes upfront fuel charge & CDW (it & LDW inclusive coverage is too iffy for my tolerance level).

this is the official alamo policy for no shows, they state 24 hours prior or $50+ charge to credit card on file. I'm not a regular & have no idea if they enforce it.

i'd book with another agency to cover myself jik they deny the code.

I am trying to rent a car for October 13th in the WDW area with Alamo and returning it at Miami Intl Airport... No luck so far. All cars are sold out at any WDW location, even MCO...

"Our apologies...

Alamo is completely sold out of vehicles at:

Orlando Intl Arpt from 10/13/2011 to 10/18/2011

Sold out"

It is strange, I even changed the "Where do you live?" question when asked in the Alamo Web Page... not luck with it yet... :confused3:

I have tried it several times in different hours to avoid the Alamo webpage recurring algorithms :surfweb:, but no luck at all. I am a registered Alamo Insiders Member since January 2011 so I am not sure what is going on.

Any thoughts?

For drop-off at another airport, found Dollar to have the best rates. No special codes, just used their City Special rates.

My drop-off is at Jacksonville.

Waiting for Alamo to update their last min deals since the current offers expire today.

No problem. Just curious, what did you bid and did you have bonus cash? Thanks :)

I bid $17 and no I didn't have bonus cash. I bid $16 on compact and then the next car up. They were refused. Then I decided to go up $1 to hope for the standard. I really wanted to get something locked in. And it was accepted right away. Should have tried $16 I guess.

I got a full size @ Alamo for $15 per day with Priceline for Oct 5-11 (Columbus Day weekend), used the $12 bonus cash. Comes to just under $140 with all taxes.
My next best was a mid size SUV I had reserved with Budget for $209 including taxes.

Okay can you please tell me...step by step instruction because I am so afraid to mess it up:guilty:....how you are able to bid on Priceline and get Alamo at MCO? I am looking for Oct 8 (pick up 8:00pm) -October 13 (drop off at 6pm) and would be happy with an economy size since it is just two of us? I am so afraid I will end up getting a company that I have never heard of or something crazy. Right now the rate is around $206 so I booked picking up at Dolphin on Oct 9 in the am and dropping off Oct 13 in the am for a rate of $134. Would LOVE to not have to worry about using ME.

The last time we used Priceline we were bidding on diapers when our son was born 11 years ago!! We would literally high five eachother if we scored Pampers!!!

Thank you so much!!!

No they won't "fine" you but you may have just cost yourself the rate you were not suppose to get. When you get to the check out it is going to show both of your resevations and then you get to sit there and say something to explain this LOL!

Or the agent may just pick the one you don't like. IMHO back up reservations should be with a different company

Thank you!

Anyway, I finally cancelled all reservations I have with the TI1 ID, and I finally have an ID, a Coupon and a Rate Code which I am allowed to use and the price is really great. Now I am sure they will not reject my car reservation.

Woo Hoo! Single digits for me!

I wish I was as optimistic as you are. I think as long as the last minute dates have the Columbus Day holiday in it, we will not see any good rates. I leave a week before you, but for 2 weeks. I have 2 more Tuesdays after today to hope for a lower rate. I've got an OK rate with National for $500 for a 2 weeks rental-Executive Aisle, but would like to shave a little off that price. Right now the same rental is $200 higher.

Yeah, we aren't leaving for another 25 days so hoping for the best. Got some decent rates now with alamo but would like it to be better.
