October 2011 Car Rental Rates

Still holding steady on Oct 12-18, I hope it goes less then the $226 I am paying now.

this am I spent a whopping $3 more;)to get a standard (i.e. fullsize for alamo?) vs midsize i had rented.

interesting that the midsizes now pricing out more than standard for my dates 10/1 - 10/8

Well I just spent the last hour of my time reading through the Oct 2010 thread ugh.

We are a family of 6 and considering last minute flying here (dates 10/14-10/21) So we'll need a car (well actually a mini van). The prices have been ridiculous when I am entering our dates EXCEPT for using the travelocity code through budget... I'm wondering if anyone has used this recently or if any of you are booked using it for October. TIA.

Just checked again for my dates (Sept 29 - Oct 10), staying steady at $173.37 for a Midsize through National.

Fullsize rental with additional driver is now down to $200.xx using BJs codes and coupon.

That's what I'm talkin about! :cool1:

I am booked with Budget with the travelocity code for Oct 8 -15. I used the same code last October (on a midsize sport ut) and didn't have any issues. Minivan for $302 this year - can't find anything cheaper for a minivan. Budget coupons are blacked out for my dates because of Columbus Day, but travelocity code worked beautifully.

Last year we booked with Alamo. Although we chose a mid-size, we were able to get a minivan. We also noticed that there were minivans in spaces for just about every category, including economy and compact.

Has anyone else had this experience? Does anyone know if this is a common occurrence? My thought was that there are so many families renting in this area that they have an excess of minivans so they just spread them into all categories or they would be slammed with minivans.

Thoughts?

You dates are about the same as mine... Go look at what codes I have and try that... Hope it helps a lil...
Took a look at your post. If I switch to Alamo (right now I'm with National), those codes will save me about $20.

I'll keep an eye on those as well, but unless something drastic happens, I'd rather stick with National.

Have any of you used carrentalsavers.com? Is this site legit? The deals seem to good to be true. Any thoughts?

I took a look at the site, tried their 'Smart Book' thing, and the rates it gave me were $30 more than I'm paying.

Otherwise, I looked at the contract codes and coupons for National (since I'm familiar with them) and they seem the same as those you can find anywhere else.

Could you let me know what the Travelocity code is, please? I would prefer to get a minivan to the SUV I currently have booked. We are a family of 5 and, with luggage and a stroller, it's going to be a tight fit in an SUV. Thanks!

I just did another sweep of my dates and using Costco codes...

I have a pick-up at MCO for 10am 10/6 and drop-off at JAX at 3pm on 10/14

This is what is making my rates so sky-high, but I already booked my airfare, so...

Alamo (my car rental of choice) is at $665.88 :scared1:
WITH discounts of $130!

I plugged in returning at MCO for the heck of it and it is $164!

Avis is at $329.78 for a sub-compact 9does not accept coupon) but if I use a coupon then a compact is $305.30

Budget is at $293 but I did book this a few weeks back for $267
However all coupons are blacked out for Columbus Day

National is at $817.69 :scared1:

Dollar is at $226.47 which I did re-book as I had a ressie for $284 that I did last week.
I did this using City Specials deal

For now, Dollar is the top contender.

Since I am driving everywhere, I am thinking of getting a Sun Pass. Has anyone else done this???

posting jik it might help SWA ding, have never rented thru budget

For one week only, Southwest Customers can get exclusive savings of up to 35% on Budget car rentals. Offer valid for bookings between 9/11- 9/17/11, with checkout no later than 12/15/11. Provide Budget Customer Discount (BCD) number U072748 at time of booking to receive this offer.

The travelocity code is x474200. That is for Budget rental company.

Thanks!!! I can actually get a minivan for about $416 with taxes and fees (and why, in God's name, are there $100 in fees!!!!). I think that's a pretty darn good rate, but I'm going to keep checking. Every day if I have to.

Thanks again!

We are going to WDW over Columbus Day weekend, arriving MCo at 11pm Friday, Oct 7, leaving at 4pm on Tuesday, Oct 11 at 4pm. Rentals started out over $200 for the four days, with no luck on Priceline. I finally booked through Dollar for $138 for a midsize. Today, I snagged a midsize at Alamo, using a BJs code and coupon, for $109 and a fullsize for $124 :cool1:. Too bad I can't use a free day coupon that was a "gift" from Alamo, but I used it to make a ressie weeks ago that I subsequently cancelled.... but they won't reactivate the coupon. At least prices are coming down (I check Orbitz car rental daily to see what the rates are doing.)

Ok so I was nervous about the travelocity code so I called budget. The person I talked to said it is okay to use that code but only when booking through travelocity SOOOO I went to travelocity... added that I wanted to rent from budget and the x474200 code and got a rate of $225 for a minivan from 10/14-10/21... about a third of the price of other offers... With taxes and fees it's $302 and I also added one of the other $30 off coupons codes. Hoping it all works out! :yay: Thanks so much.

using the alamo insiders code and the american airlines code my full size rental dropped to $78 for 10/8-10/15 out of Sanford :)

I'm on Travleocity and I can still get the same deal - aprrox. $146 with taxes and fees....which is not bad at all. What $30 coupon did you use and how did you add it? I must be so blind....I can't see where to add additional coupon information.

Thanks!
