October 2010 Car Rentals

I think that I am done looking until my bidding time gets closer for Priceline. I am ok with $316 for a mini van for 8 days. I haven't even gotten close to the $316 since I booked it. In fact, it has doubled and then come back down to about $150 more as of just prior to this post.

in the past, various mainstream affinity-type (vs the roll-the-dice type that are always out there with LDW, etc.) rates have dropped back down a month to 3 weeks prior to my trips...try checking mid week:wizard:

Ended up with Budget for Oct 22 - Oct 29th.
Either minivan or standard SUV - total price is $302.

Thanks for sharing this, but I just tried a lot of different combos and came up with was $600 and above. I do have a reservation already for 10/15-10/23 for a total of $358.84, but the difference in price is a ticket to MNSSHP. Could you share the specific combo of codes that you used please? I would greatly appreciate it!!!

I have a minivan through Budget 10/13-10/20 for $302 using X474200, and MUWZ023. Hope it is still works for some others.

Thanks a lot. I tried it got $358.84. I'm not sure why it came out with a different total, but it's still $75 less than what I had. Since we'll be there at the same time, I look for the other family in a rented minivan and wave!

I can't believe how much rental car prices have gone up.:scared1: I'll be trying Priceline when it gets closer to my trip, if I don't get anything, then I'll just be happy with the rate I have booked.

I'm having trouble finding a minivan at all. Budget doesn't show any available for Oct 1-10. I got one using a code for National for about $425, but I think I might give Priceline a shot. Does anyone know how additional drivers work with Priceline?

ETA: I found where it says you can add additional driver at the counter. Is the going rate $10 a day?

I just tried it again, and the minivan in the box comes up $225. Do you get that? Then the rest is taxes, so if you aren't adding any extras your should be the same unless your dates are different. This is also for pickup/dropoff at the same time. For example we are picking up at 2:30 and returning at 2:30, if you return after later than the 24 hour mark (like at 4:00) you get charged for another day so that could be your extra $$.

Hope you have a magical trip.

I don't have time to read the whole thread, so I'll just report the deal I just got:

Alamo
Sept 29-Oct 10 (11 days)
Full Size (Impala)
$12.83 per day- before taxes
$210.08 (incl all taxes)

I used the Visa Corp ID# 7015210
And the Visa Coupon # AD8219SDM (20% off + $30.00 off)

I'm VERY happy with that.

Alamo's rates are down again today. I just rebooked my compact car using the same codes from above. My dates are 10/6-13 & the total was $143.88. I saved $21.55. Nice. I'll keep checking it often to see if I can do any better, but anything under $150 & I'm happy.

Just checked my dates for October and my rate went down $35, just rebooked.

Not sure what is going on with my dates, but alamo is still over $400 for my week in October. Oct. 14-22nd. Crazy!

I've been using Entertainment book codes, my rate for 12 days is $230 (thats including all taxes, fees, etc). That is using the $40 off a weekly rate code. Picking up from the airport.

I think it's because it's Columbus Day week. We're going Oct. 13-19 and the rates are high.

I'm going Oct 23 to 29 and just tried the Alamo codes above - $309 incl tax. National's Emerald Club is about the same. Yikes!

My corporate rate with National is $213 total w/the $25 coupon. Insurance automatically included. I miss the days of $120 total!

I wanted to add this is for a Standard ( I need power windows LOL). Up until today I was using the double upgrade coupon since that came out cheaper than the $40 off. I checked both today and the $40 coupon worked out better this time.

Rates for our dates (Oct 6 - 16th) are still at $235/week .. somehow I doubt they'll be decreasing anytime soon :sad2: ... Luckily I booked our rental about 6 months ago and have a decent rate :thumbsup2
