October 13th, 2007~"Cruise-A-Palooza"

Okay, I just pulled my Budget info from when when we cruised in October 2005. (no comments) ;) Anyway, when we cruised that time it was just my DH and myself & we drove an economy. We used the discount code W810000 that I got off of Mousesavers & could still be astive. Who knows? :confused3 Anyway, to rent the car from the airport to Port Canaveral from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning it was $20.47 including tax & surcharge. To rent the car going back from Port Canaveral to Orlando airport (we had the car about an hour & a half) we paid $32.11 tax & surcharge. I don't remember what we paid when we went in October of 2004 with the kids, but I do remember it was more for coming back. Why? I have know idea. This time around there will be 6 of us & we will be renting a minivan and I know we will be paying quite a bit more. Oh well, it will be worth it. :goodvibes

DIS-TOBERFEST

If everyone will give me idea for a good time or place for our group to have a DISer meet I will create another poll. I am a fost time (Disney anyway) cruiser so I would appreciate any and all input.

GO DIS-TOBERFEST!!!!!!:banana::banana::banana:YOUUUUUU CAN DO IT!!!!

I'd suggest a day at sea....Sunday or Monday. Our last group gathered on deck 9 - forward by the adult pool. We had planned on meeting inside - but we were unsure if scheduled events would not permit us (all) to enjoy ourselves.

Another time/place that works out well - is at Port. Know I'll be there early and there is a lot of 'hurry-up-n-wait time'. Our last group all wore Mardi Gras beeds making it easier to spot each other. It was great to put a face/voice to a screen name....good times!!!!

Hey Jen...thx for sharing - no jokes from me...I used my 05 files to create a budget for our 07 trip.

we've gotten good rates for our week on land through Hertz - I like them much better than the others I've used (national - Avis). Hertz cars are not on the Orlando airport property...maybe 2-3 miles away. I like walking out the airport - getting on a bus - being dropped off at my vehicle...vacation begins. I also recommend who ever you go with...joining their 'club'. I am a Hertz gold member (through work) and really like bypassing the counter - we do need to go to the counter at port...but we get to the front of the line.

I find getting an on-site car at Orlando airport a real hasstle. You need a porter...or....be prepared to schlep your luggage - up an elevator - across the street - down an elevator till you get to the parking garage. Then, find your agencies car/vans. Be prepared...it can be a pretty good walk.

I belive it was about $55 to $60 for a 7 passanger van through Hertz - from port to orlando's airport. If anyone is interested...I'll check my files for cost paid for the week prior.

Hey kevin, I was wondering with Hertz is it the same as Budget where you can book your vehicle one-way, drop it off at the office in Port Canaveral, free shuttle to & from the ship? I thought Budget was the only one that did it, but if Hertz does too than it's worth looking into and compareing prices. :)

First....for your morning amusement - a political announcement

A HAPPY FRIDAY to all....:yay: :yay: :yay:

There are at least 5 car agencies that allow you to pick up a vehicle at Orlando airport (MCO) and drop them off at a satellite location *near* port. I can’t remember the 5th (see....not making any political promises...I can’t keep) but you can book through;
- Budget (3mi from port)
- Hertz (4.3mi)
- Avis (4mi)
- National (every bit of 6.6mi – too many traffic lights)

Unless it’s changed....National is the only agency that does not have a complimentary shuttle – they will call you a cab and credit you ~$10 each way. But....if ya don’t ask for the credit – you might not get it.

I’ve used all but Budget....IMHO...if you are a ‘club member’ for any of these companies...can join reasonably or free of charge through your place of employment, bank, credit card company, wholesale membership – go with that company. Receiving priority service at the counter....is a real time saver.

We have ‘club privileges’ with Hertz and National...the main reason I go with Hertz is – we don’t need to hire a porter ($1-2 per bag) or schlep our luggage from baggage claim over to the rental garage...IT’S A REAL PAIN!!!

For us, Hertz works really well...Nan and 2 DD’s go get the luggage and I’ll take one DD with me. A Hertz bus picks me up at curbside and takes us to their off-airport location (~2 mi) and right to our car. I don’t need to go to the counter...just show my id/cards to the exit guard – that’s it!!! We return to the airport and load up...VACATION BEGINS!!!

When we get to port...I’ll drop the girls and the luggage off....and return the car/van. With their club...I don’t need to wait and check the van in...I can leave the paperwork/keys on their counter – and go. Because I have a mantra of: TRUST—BUT VERIFY...I’ll go to the counter to review the final charges against my original reservation. Hertz has a couple of 12 passenger vans and when reasonably full...or after a short wait...they return you to port. I highly recommend offering the driver a decent tip – post cruise is where this pays off. This same driver ‘found room’ for our family and all our luggage without us needing to wait for their next trip.

a great resource for reviewing the different agencies - pros and cons is Dave's DCL site...here is a direct link...this is also posted on our Yahoo Groups site.....a little out dated on price....but inculdes; location codes needed for booking via the internet - distances and some great maps to help you find your way to/around Coco Beach.

I'd recommend looking around Dave's site...some good stuff.

Finally - Have a great Friday....the weekend's almost here!!!

Senate Announces Hearing on Cruise-a-Palooza scandal

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Senate Fair Election Committee started hearings last week on the impact of Cruise-a-Palooza’s involvement in the use of a firm hired by a competitors discussion boards, Cruise Critics, for the sole pourpose of election tampering.

The hearing will feature testimony from State authorities and claims fragulant activity by Cruise-a-Palooza has tainted the preliminary election. Witnesses told the committee, chaired by Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), that votes were cast by non-members of the DIS community. Tainted votes were eventually traced to the campaign office of Cruise-a-Palooza and Cruise Critics that ran internet banks stuffing ballots. The Committe will hold further ingestigations into the alleged tampering.

"The parties in this case all agree that purposeful interference with voting has no place in DIS board elections and is inconsistent with the principles for which they all stand," Grassley said.

To the Dis – Community:

I would first like to start by saying how sorry I am that you have been put in the middle of such an ugly tactic as the one being brought before you.

I would like to address the allegations of vote tampering. These accusations are baseless and without merit. The use of “Cruise Critics” is 100% completely false. The people at “Cruis-A-Palooza” have never been associated with anyone at “Cruise Critics” nor have we been associated with their web site.

The hearing that has been mentioned by my opponent is more of a witch hunt than an actual hearing. These proceedings headed by Sen. Charles Grassley(R-Iowa) are a farce and will be proven to just that, a large lie that was concocted by my opponent. The committee that Sen. Grassley is heading as you will find out was created for the sole purpose of blocking any challenges from opponents of Dis-Toberfest. If you look into the committee you find relatives of my accuser and all of this being run by a man that is himself under investigation for misappropriation of funds, wire tapping, and tax aviation.

I say to you, the loyal Dis-Community.
Wait until all of the facts have been laid out in front of and the truth has come out before you make any judgment.

Thank you,
Cruis-A-Palooza
