Our school system moved our Fall break this year from September to Oct 6-12. It appears that this is the one week that Disney doesn't offer any deals. Is this correct? WE have never traveled this time of year as we have always been spoiled by the low crowds and free dining of September.

What can we expect?
:confused3

We usually go the end of September also and have had the FREE dining plan for about 7 years. Now, because of the school calendar, we must go 10/5 - 10/12. Does everyone still think if GP free dining is announced, it will mirror the current pin offers and end with 10/02? We went ahead and booked at a value and paid for the regular dining plan but a discount sure would be nice! Everyone says the 10 mile run at HS for 10/04 and 10/05 is affecting the free dining for those dates.

We're going Oct. 7-12, staying at Pop Century. Also hoping for free dining but would take a room discount :)

This will be our first time at the Halloween party. So excited!!!

Its just hubby and me---kids all grown.

there might be room only discounts available for that week (our dates are 10/5-13 due to school calendar too), but we probably won't know for a while yet. good luck!!

When do these discounts usually come out? We are going Oct 9-13.

We are staying Oct 4-12 because of school calendar also. Just changed my ressie from family suite at AOA to preferred room POR. I don't think we have a chance at free dining and based on previous trends AOA will only get a 15% room discount (that amounts to only about $180 for my trip) but POR will get a 25% ($500) savings with much cheaper room rate. Maybe will try AOA for next trip but several home projects require me to keep this trip budget low. Drat, drat, drat FD!!!:headache:

There's a large convention Oct 6 to 10 that is taking up a lot of rooms. It should not affect the parks since it is being held at the Epcot resorts convention centers.

http://www.gartner.com/technology/symposium/orlando/hotel.jsp

Gartner is huge. They take over the convention centers at BC/YC, Dolphin, and Swan. Around 5k attendees and staff, plus most bring their families. Tuesday night they will close a park early and only opened just for attendees.

I've been several times and am booked to stay at BC but not sure if going (budget).

Columbus day is also on October 14th. That is one of the busiest times of the year, so FD is blacked out typically until the Friday following.

I doubt there will be any discounts for that week. I know it was blocked from all the bounce back offers as we were looking at it because it is our fall break. I think between the huge convention and all the fall breaks they are figuring they will fill enough rooms

The convention has lots of rooms at a discount rate. The all sold out in the first couple of days (always do). They used to only offer rooms in Epcot resorts but now it's all of them basically.

When do they normally block FD related to columbus day?? is it usually blocked the week before until the friday after?? trying to plan for 2014

Do they really close a park early? when I look at park hours it doesn't say any parks will close early during that week except for the MK Halloween party?

I think Hollywood Studios closes at 6pm on Tuesday the 8th instead of 8pm like it does the rest of the week.

We are arriving on the 18th, which is the end of the second week. Typically, the week and weekend before and the week during (until that Friday)(This year, it would be @ 5-17th) is blacked out/w FD beginning again the Friday of Columbus Day week (18th). I'm pretty sure if you look up past years dates, that's the pattern they follow.

Looks like it. The evet is confirmed for the 8th but they did not announced the park yet.

Typically they have the park available from 8-11pm and they take you in private buses. Typically you enter via a service entrance. A few years ago they dropped us off in the circle in front of LMA. They had a big red carpet and big spotlights. CMs dressed up as fans and paparazzi as if we were the stars.

Another year, one of the vendors took a few of us to a private event to the Hollywood Hideaway. Food was AMAZING!.

Oh, and of course one year (while they were renegotiating another 10 year contract) the special evening event was at universal - it was the year that HP opened :)

We'll be there 10/5-10/13. I don't care about free dining, but I'd love a room discount. However, I just don't see it happening, with the convention and Food & Wine. Most of the deluxe resorts are sold out or at least most of the room categories are sold out, and CSR is also mostly sold out. POR only had a few categories left the last time I checked. I really don't see them offering a RO discount at this point.

So I'm just going to look on the bright side: We're going to Disney! We get to go during F&W and MNSSHP. And my son doesn't have to miss any school, so no makeup work or lost class time to worry about. And just MAYBE, with many resorts sold out to the convention, that means a little less crowds in the park? (I'm trying to make myself feel better here, so c'mon, amiright? ::yes::)

we're there around the same time. i told my bf discount or not, we're going! so i like your way of thinking! lol... i sure hope there is a room discount though!!!

So no FD for this period, but apparently there is a RO discount. However, when I go online to search for a room, I get NO AVAILABILTY at any moderate or deluxe. Can this be right???? :confused3

Not happy with my school system for messing up such a great thing...aren't they DISNEY folks like the rest of us?

I wouldn't agree that Columbus Day weekend (or day) is one of the busiest times of the year. Both Josh and TP show small, and negligible, increases in crowds on Sunday, but it's nothing earth shattering in my experience.
