Don't know if this has been menitoned, but yes, Tar balls have been washing up in Cocoa Beach for a few days now. :sad2:

I saw that too. It's terrible, isn't it? :sad2:

I haven't heard of any cruises being effected yet. I know a family of 16 that left on a Carnival cruise out of Miami, I think a few days ago. As far as our vacation goes, I am hoping what they say is true and that they might have a handle on this by August so maybe by October things will improve?

It is awful, but it does seem that at least for now, no cruises are being affected. Fingers crossed, I am sure we will be fine, that's not meaning to ignore the magnitude of what is happening which is simply horrible, but I am trying to keep thinking happy thoughts :goodvibes

cabin 8044: kgoldenh aka Kate, DH-Rex, Addie (12), Stephen (11) main dining.

Kids are concerned they will know no one on the cruise. I am thinking they will make tons of friends. :lmao:

There is a link on page 1 post 1 to a kid's thread - I believe they are planning a mini meet at our meet - 10/30 in the promenade :)

Things are sure sizzling in the mid-Atlantic states. We just got back from a trip to visit family near Miami and it was cooler (plus it rained tons!) there all week than it was where we live in Northern Virginia! We didn't see any tar balls at the beaches in Boca Raton...

In terms of our grand Dis-adventure to Nachi Cocom, just wanted to give you another update: with the addition of adnil530 we are now at 90 people: 51 adults and 39 kids (19 boys and 20 girls). Should be a fun beach time with lots of Disney folks! There still might be a few empty spots so check out the information on the front of our forum and PM me if you decide to take the plunge!

An add on here: I just sent Katie at Island Marketing an inquiry this morning asking them how much availability was left at Nachi. The response on our meet board has been phenomenal. I'll post what they say about when I hear back from them!

I just heard back from Katie at Island Marketing about the number of people booked at Nachi on November 3. Here is what she said: "We are up to about 97 (with small kids). So we only have a few spaces left for a few more adults. For the tiny kids we do not provide adult lounge chairs so we can squeeze a few more in. We are nearly FULL." --Katie

So if anyone on our meet board wants to add on, my advice is to contact the Cozumel agency (Island Marketing) asap! I'd appreciate a PM when you get confirmed so that I can add you to our list at the front of the board. Thanks!!!! :)

Beth

I put in a request to reserve that day last night. It said it may take 24-48 hours, so I'll let you know when I hear!

If I read this right, we have 90, and they have a total of 97 that day - so only 7 non-Disers?!! The other 7 guests are going to wonder what on earth! What a phenomenal turnout!

Sounds as though you should be fine, but you may take up the last spaces. I can't wait!

I just sent another email to Katie at Island Marketing (she is probably getting tired of me!) and asked her to please let me know when Nachi maxes out. I'll post a message here when that happens. Fingers are crossed that Jennifer and her party of 3 gets in. Who knows, maybe IM had already included her in their 97 number if they opened her email from last night before they read my email this morning? Whatever the case, if anyone else is interested my advice is to contact IM pronto as there still might be a few more spots since they apparently don't count the "3 and unders" in their final total.

Sounds like that is going to be an awesome day at the beach. I was tempted to join you all but the Cozumel Mayan Ruines won out! I will see all my DIS Friends at Capt Marvin's. Getting so excited!!! I can book Palo and Spa treatments next week-end!!!

This is the only thing that concerns me about Nachi. The reviews as of late have been less than stellar and all of the negative ones have been tied to how busy the place was on any given day. I hope we aren't victims of our own enthusiasm! There is a thread on the CC Coz board and here are some of the comments:

"I'm thinking that Nachi is good if there are 50 people or less and they can keep up. the day we were there, June 7th, it was full and we just didn't get good service at all. They only had ONE bartender and two servers for the whole place! And the bartender that was there was overwhelmed and seemed to shut down and not want to work at all. Food was good but service was lacking."

"I think that really gets to the core of it.

It's easy for the bartender to get overwhelmed, especially if there's a demanding bunch at the swim-up bar. The two servers can get really tied up by a crowd near the palapa as well.

We absolutely loved Nachi the first time we were there, in 2007, but I doubt that there were more than 20 guests that day. On our latest visit, May 2010, there were at least 80 guests. Our server only made it out to our chairs twice during our entire visit, simply because he was so busy with the crowd.

We still love Nachi, but it is definitely a victim of its' own success."

I'm not trying to be a Negative Nancy-LOL- just a caution that it is very possible that with so many of us we may overwhelm them. I tend to go into situations like this expecting the worst so that we might be pleasantly surprised. I just wouldn't want any of our group to have a bad experience and be disappointed.

WOW already!!! I guess it is getting close!!!

I have booked 2 more adults to our ressie...my DD and my nephew are booked. I just got the confirmation this morning so don't know if they were included in IM's final count to you. I put in my request 2 days ago and was just confirmed.

Thanks MJ...I'll add them to our adult total. And Nenner1's point is well taken about keeping our expectations to a reasonable level! :)

I would hope that if they know how many people are booked ahead of time for a particular day they would have enough help on duty that day....but who knows what will be....I still plan on having fun.

Looking at Key West excursions, this appears to be an interesting option to the Conch Train. I like that there is an "on-and-off" option.

Old Town Trolley Tour

This is what we are thinking of doing too. I'm just trying to decide weather or not to purchase tickets on line in advance or wait till we are there. You save a little by purchasing online, but not a significant amount.

I've heard good things about the trolley tour, and my main reason to take it is that I really want to see the Southern most point of the Continental U.S. I think this type of tour, with the get on get off privileges, can give every family member something they would each like! :)

ITA. We want to see the southern most point and the flexibilty to get off and shop. We will probably buy tickets in advance to reduce the amount of money that will be spent that week. The more stuff we can pay for now means less stuff we have to pay for while on the cruise.

Yeah this makes me nervous. That being said, this is a thing where Nochi can make or break themselves here (on these boards). I would only hope that if they know about us coming, they would prepare well. I look forward to writing about this particular experience.
