Thought I was the only crazy one to switch cruise dates. We orig. booked a 4 night Sept. 2010 and decided to up it to the 7 night in Oct. Never been on DCL before....how does DCL compare to Carnival?

Me and DH celebrating 27 yrs. together!!!

Wow! Congrats on 27 years together!

Where do I start.......

I do not mean to put down Carnival. I have sailed with them a few times and there is no such thing as a bad cruise.:goodvibes I fell that Disney is well worth the extra money vs. the other lines. The disney ships do not have the las vegas fell (neon lights and darker colors). The shows on disney are less flamboyant. The ships do not have a casino but have a few things to do at night. Carnival promotes a party fell (announcements for bingo, drink specials, art auction , ect.. throught the day) Disney does not do that once. Disney is very much a family cruise. Because this is your first disney cruise, look in to getting Birnbaum's Disney Cruise Line 2008,PassPorter's Field Guide to the Disney Cruise Line and Its Ports of Call, or the travel channel sometimes does a special on the DCL. Another good source to the Navigators (the daily activities letter) is disneycruiser.
I hope this helps. Fell free to post any questions you may have and some one will have the answer.

Welcome aboard:thumbsup2

I mostly agree with figment, but I hae to humbly disagree about the bingo and art auctions. DCL has them to; or are you just saying that Carnival does more of a hard sell on them? And talking about hard sell, I agree about the drinks. Wait staff are more 'persistent' about pushing them on Carnival. It's hard to get a good nap by the side of the pool ;)

We also enjoyed Carnival, but to us the big difference was no smoking on DCL. There were clubs we would have loved to go to on Carnival, but since they allowed smoking (and smoking areas have doors to keep the smoke in) we avoided them. I don't know if you'd call Disney shows less flamboyant, but they sure are more spectacular. The decor on Carnival didn't bother me as much as some others claim, but I will admit it's a bit more "Vegas", while Disney is more classic. One of the things we noticed about Carnival, that differed from DCL, was the passengers on Carnival were less diverse. Maybe it was because we sailed out of NYC, I don't know. Not a good or bad thing, but it's fun to meet people from different walks of life.

O' yes I do agree about being with the same type of passengers. We have sailed out of NYC twice and felt like we were at the mall for a week, lol:lmao:

Disney does have the "extras" but it is not a hard sell. They do push DVC a lot, but I guess it promotes themselves. And I do not mind talking about DVC to others because it works for us. :yay:

Hey all!

Not that there has been too many additions lately, but I wanted to let everyone know . . . I will be having some "minor" surgery and will probably not be back online until about 7/20ish . . . when I return I will start looking at post #367 . . . I would love to come back and have to add a whole bunch of new people to our cruise!! :surfweb:

I am not sure of the issue with zazzle. They made me remove anything that contains our little logo from post one as mickey is a copyrighted item - I had some things posted that just had the three circles and our cruise date but now those are gone as well . . . :confused3

Looks like we might have to print our own decals and iron onto our own shirts - which - is cheaper but I prefer the zazzle quality pirate:

See ya real soon!

Take care and heal well! You will be missed while you are gone.

I leave in 6 days to WDW and will be back about the same time as you. Once we return I will have more time to spend on my cruise meet threads. Looking forward to getting to know you all over the coming year. Lois

Have a speedy recovery!

Have you ever used Cafe Press? I like their quality too.

I'm Jennifer, I'll be (gasp) 40 by trip time, my DH Dan will be 43 just 9 days before sailing and our DD Morgan will be 10. 2010 is our 15th anniversary, her 10th birthday and our first Disney Cruise! Was thinking of renewing our vows on Halloween, just for S&Gs, anyone know the cost?

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Oh, and we're from Massachusetts. My favorite character is Pooh. DD wavers from princesses to fairies to whatever. DH loves the villians ;) and we have the main seating for dinner.

Get well soon! Please post back when you are well enough.

We're off to Chicago for the long weekend. Happy 4th of July, everyone!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. :cool1: I can not believe what happened with the monorail:scared1:

We just came home from our Chicago trip. We had a great time, but came home to hear about the monorail accident. It's so sad.:sad2:

I'm so jealous. My daughter is in DL today. She's visiting her boyfriend in Cali and after a weekend of hobnobbing in Malibu with the likes of Cote de Pablo, Janice Dickerson and the governor, her boyfriend took her to DL. It's her first time, so I can't wait until I hear from her on her reaction to the differences to WDW.

Yes it is sad. Waiting to hear what the cause was. The monorail stops mid track all the time waiting for the train ahead to clear. At 2 in the morning I hope the driver didn't fall asleep.

Oh, that's my ole' stomping grounds. I was born and raised in the Los Angeles area and we were annual pass holders for DL until we moved to Kansas last year. DL does cannot hold a candle to WDW, in my opinion. I always saw DL as something to tide us over until our next WDW trip. Not that DL is bad. It's just not as big as WDW, so there's a lot less to offer.

Hi all, Glad I found you. I have not officially signed up for the cruise yet, but it is pretty much in the bag!
It will be our 20th anniversary (married on Halloween). We always vacation every two years, and being this is going to be a big celebration we are planning a week at the park AND a week long cruise! I am saving my pennies as we speak!:goodvibes
I was shocked to hear of the monorail accident:sad2:. This is the first of it's kind. Thankfully, no one else was riding in front. It is sad that someone lost their life, but we should be thankful it wasn't worse. My thoughts are with the drivers family and friends.
On a happier note, I am looking forward to getting to know all of you before our cruise. I know this year is going to fly by! I am already reading other peoples trip reports and drooling over the pictures.
Two of my sisters and a nephew are doing a double dip this November and I am jealous! I wish we were doing a DD. I guess I'l just live vicariously through them until next year!:thumbsup2

Armand - we look forward to you joining us.

Nik's Mom - no argument about the difference in the size, but I have to admit, a little of me prefers DL because of its more intimate nature. And Some of the shared rides are beeter in DL IMHO. Space Mtn is smoother and darker, on HM the stretching room really descends and IASM has characters from the Disney movies in various scenes. I have to get back to see the new POTC. It was closed for the changes when I was last there three years ago.

I have to say I wish it was easier for us to get to DL. I find myself more relaxed there, probably because there are less distractions and it's not as big. I also really enjoy being able to walk everywhere and not having to rely on a bus to take me from park to park. Maybe one day we will be transfered back to the west coast & getting to DL will be easier.

Here's what I like better about DL. Pirates of the Caribbean seems longer and better in DL. Space Mtn is definitely smoother at DL. Haunted stretch room and the switch to Nightmare before Christmas around the holidays gives DL the edge. Oh, and the Matterhorn at DL is a favorite of mine.:thumbsup2 The addition of Disney characters to IASM is farily new addition. We haven't seen that yet, but can't wait to check it out when we return to California for the Christmas holiday!
